I'm trying to write a graphic novel and thought I'd draw up a rough sketch of what the first page might look like, I can't draw for shit though. Something tells me that's a major hurdle when making a graphic novel, but it's more about the story for me at this point. Also, why does the scanned version look so bad? I had to blow up the contrast enormously to even properly see the pencil lines. Any advice would be more than welcome.
I don't see the point of making a graphic novel if you can't draw for shit. If you have a good story, words should do it justice.
Here's some pixel art that I made for a side project that I'm working on with a friend of mine (It's her design and color scheme)
Is this any better? What can still be improved? [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/pb1.png[/t]
You should probably change the color of the text to something that stands out slightly better. I have no clue how to art but that's the first thing that pops out at me.
Is this any better? What can still be improved? [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/pb1.png[/t]
The text fights for attention with her legs when it crosses over them. "You can" and "beat me at" are almost the same size, but not quite, which looks weird. Also there's a weird gap between "your wife" and "you can" that doesn't look totally intentional. I haven't really studied typography either bit that's the stuff that stands out to me as wonky. Hope it helps! I do like the idea, it's cute and the colors are nice.

I'm really happy with how this turned out :v: Also I'm super excited as I've ordered a 1:1 skull which I'm going to study the hell out of when it arrives.
Great strokes, reminds me a lot of Juniez
First real attempt at making something at least semi-realistic entirely with Illustrator. Obviously not done. Pain in the ass, but I'm learning a lot of techniques with the program.
Here's the basically finished version of the 2D vector car I posted several pages back. All in Illustrator. Pain in the ass to do and the wheels suck but, eh, fuck it.

Looks cool but why in the world would you do it in IL
[editline]15th April 2013[/editline] holy shit imgur has some mad compression look at it here http://sebastiankingsart.blogspot.com/
Looks cool but why in the world would you do it in IL
I had to do it as a project in my vector graphics class. The practical application is working with complex objects and learning more advanced techniques with the software. If you look up photo-realistic vector illustrations, though, people actually do it of their own will. And they're a hell of a lot better than mine. For example: That's entirely Illustrator using basic shapes and the gradient mesh tool.
No that's a cat

And I assume it took a lot longer than just painting the same cat (which would look a lot better) I still see no appeal whatever in vector art. Might as well make the cat in InDesign or Notepad or some shit.. Unless your piece must be vector for a client or something, it's just one big why :v:

Vector art is nothing compared to some other crazy things people do, you robot.

I also find graphic novels fascinating. You're entirely right though, I should know how to draw before considering making it..
Don't be discouraged You have to start somewhere, I say give it a try anyway! It might not be as good as you want it to be but it will be a starting point, and something for you to work on and learn from.

But still, it is for the most part useless doing something photo-realistic with Illustrator. But it did help me learn the software so that I could do better when I have a practical purpose to use vector graphics (which is quite often)

School I volunteer at is getting students to make flag entries for them, they want to make it a vector once they have picked one and have no sweet clue how.
Whilst I can understand the technicalities behind wanting to make Vector art I never saw the point as it was far more hassle then it was worth to get a decent end result. maybe its changed since I tried it but I loathed the experience.
Something I did in photoshop. Jesus thats big.

There should be a slider to adjust the colour indexing, it's very straightforward. Another great reason to not do any vector art If you're talking about working from scratch making shapes with IL, assuming the kids will choose the coolest flags with designs on them rather than just colour blocks (which could be done with just rectangular marquees) then that would mean learning the pen tool. The pen tool is pretty annoying to start off with so I doubt kids would want to commit to spending the time getting competent with it to do one flag :v:

As long as I have fun with it. Because the blimp/zeppelin looks a bit weird. Other than that and the slightly öuddy colours, it looks great. It certainly has a fun dynamic to it.
What's wrong about saying he should experiment and try different stuff? What's wrong about saying 'don't listen to that' when someone says "Don't do this style. But depending on how simple these flag designs are, you would probably only need to know the basic shape-building tools. If they're just flat color shapes, learn how to use the pen tool and also how to build shapes from existing basic shapes using the Pathfinder tools. So if you look for tutorials, I'd say find ones that focus on those things.
Hi guys, I was bored and I try to draw something (my first :/) btw. I need some tips how to improve the fingers.
btw. I need some tips how to improve the fingers.
I think you need to learn how to resize and rotate your picture first when uploading.
