Maybe if you just broke up the monotony of that wall, let the sky eat into it some more or something.

Calm your tits Debbie Downer, I'm just surprised its more than 25.
Well at the moment you're just colouring in really
Just stick to a 2B or something and try to add values. Colour theory is a whole other thing, you should have some grasp of using tone to build your efforts at colour onto. Otherwise you're really in the dark (like above)
So the way to get better with colour is to not use colour?
But I get what your saying it.

I'm sure we're all tremendously happy for you, kudos for the exposure
That said you can stop posting about your crummy tf2 thing now :v:

Well yeah, you have to learn to describe light on surfaces in order for colour to even matter, otherwise it's just gonna be flat colours. Taking colour out of the equation is the best way to improve your values - first things first

Adding a :v: doesn't make your comments any less rude. Just chill out. He's excited and wanted somebody to share his excitement with. He only made two posts.
Mako comes across as rude sometimes but I think he was just making a joke
what the butts Mako is in australia bro I could probably shout out my window and you'd hear me
[editline]27th September 2013[/editline]
come over for some tea and shit
He posted four times about it with an air of prodigious head-swelling
It's true that I added a :v: to sound less mean about it, but yeah I wasn't joking. I was being serious when I said I was happy for him as well, but I do think he should shut up about it.
Thing is I don't aim to be rude, nor do I aspire to be especially nice. I'm just honest about what I see (or blunt if you want) without concern for any backlash I might get. I'm the kind of person I like, I guess.
There's some introspection for you where I normally wouldn't bother, since Mal had his stick in the bucket :v:
And I've lived in australia the whole time since I joined FP Maloof!
NZ is still pretty far away though, if you were here I'd hang with you
i like those although i feel especially on the one on the left, by the time that lantern lights anything up you'll be too close to do anything about it
unless it's for other deep-sea adventurers to see the vessel coming
Do you guys have any tips on rendering hair? My method is block in the values then use an overlay brush to get the detail in but I just can't get it to look right.

shit's hard. it's uncomfortably different to photoshop but I can at least see it's uses even though it feels clunky as fuck.
it's for a t-shirt btw; tomorrow I'm going to draw "AXE BRINGS THE AXE" somehow. never really done any typographic stuff so we'll see how it goes.

Tay Zarre, the lightbulb guy that I posted here a long time ago, is a dual Light / Electricity elemental.

I originally tried to create a pixel-art version of Tay Zarre, but I ended up making him if he were wearing a lightning jersey and sweats. It didn't work at all.

Did some rough sketching in class today:

Did it with the HL2 Coast atmosphere in mind.

It's still very flattering thank you!!
Hey guys, my photoshop brushes are acting up and I need a bit of help. I'm using the 36 chalk brush which should create the textured lines pointed to by the arrow. But recently all of my brushes are creating singular solid lines. Like the IT looking thing or the arrow, both drawn with the chalk brush. Another example is the dots, they usually scatter and randomly palce themselves but now they're lining up.

Anyone have any tips on using tablet's? I have a really cheap-o one and I can only work accurately with it when I'm 400x zoom.

No worrys, It was the same for me too. Just keep drawing and you will probably get use to it.
I have a Galaxy Note 2 and it's pretty nifty for a phone.

Are you drawing in it totally or using it with the pen tool and such to line sketches you already made? its not good for sketching and doing base work, but do a sketch on paper and import it in the make the lineart and such with the pen tool , its far from what I would call clunky.
Illustrator is my favourite <3

Which one did you get?
A lot of it is just getting used to it, dont zoom in and just draw some for a while not worrying too much about how it turns out.

I sketched it out in photoshop first. I actually really like how lines come out in illustrator. Just a couple of things about it confuse me, like I kept having to livepaint>make/livepaint>expand because it wouldn't let me fill a certain area without actually understanding what the commands were actually doing.
Also, I hate how there's no hotkey for the knife tool (any way of fixing this?), and also, when I cut a shape, it automatically highlights the effected shapes so I have to hit the selector, empty my selection and click the knife tool before I can cut it up some more. Also what's with the lack of scrubby zooming? :(
I'm sure there's good reasons for why it does the things it does, it just feels quite unintuitive. After using it for one day I've already started hitting the wrong buttons to do stuff in photoshop, haha.
Image trace is really efficient in CS6 you know
So you can paint in PS or whatever and then make it vector without the drudgery of actually using IL
