Say,what pencils do you guys use for your drawings? I just use a regular old HB pencil for most of my drawings and I'm interested in what you guys use to shade and stuff.
I like using a 2H to do underdrawing and then a 2B for everything else, HB is still what I carry with me for sketching wherever though
Does this look bad? I needed to have some contrast on the left shoulder.
It all looks a bit too smooth, I'm not really getting much texture from this, the jacket maybe, buuut? Edit: Genuinely looks better zoomed out [editline]7th October 2013[/editline]
[img_thumb]http://25.media.tumblr.com/764000ac1437e2693c303a320db99112/tumblr_mu60y17BVY1r85bmyo2_1280.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://24.media.tumblr.com/ad290d1b03ca3b1657ea5ee25936e2f0/tumblr_mu60y17BVY1r85bmyo1_1280.jpg[/img_thumb] Trying to learn how to face
Your doing it VERY right!

B is also good
You should try making your own characters. I think it's time.
I actually have a group of my own characters but I've drawn them since I was in elementary school. I'm worried that my old bad drawing habits will resurface in their designs when I draw them now.
Other character came off as a little more serious than I was originally hoping but it works out. Shit I accidentally rated your post Optimistic instead of Artistic.
Just refresh page and you can re-rate posts silly.

just throwing together colors to try and get past my fear of painting without lines, thought it looked cool can I get a morally gray hey hey for TSL
I like the design.
How to shade better?
Just some really rough brainstormy writing. I dunno why I'm doing it exactly or what the end goal is. I haven't even edited it much for grammatical quality yet Just thought I'd share it before I headed off to bed idk
She lived in a cottage on the edge of a forest. Well, it wasn't really the edge. The forest tended to fade away slowly; trees giving way to smaller trees, smaller trees giving way to shrubs and shrubs giving way to dandelions and the occasional clothes-peg. To find the absolute edge would take more skill and experience than any local could possibly muster. It wasn't really a cottage, come to that. No thatched roof, no grubby windows, no mildly toxic plants clinging to the equally grubby outside walls. It didn't even have a crooked chimney. Frankly she wasn't making much of an effort and didn't really have any right to call it a cottage in the first place. She lived in a little old house what had some trees near it. And she was damn well grateful. She stepped out one rainy Autumn evening under a blue umbrella. Golden-orange light glittered warmly through the downpour from a faraway break in the clouds as she made her way down garden path. The hedgerows of the lane ahead shifted and rustled gently in the breeze, and sparrows darted back and forth, hurrying home to their families and their warm, dry nests. She trod in a dog poo. The road to the village was always quiet. The moors weren't very well lived-on (or lived in by any magical fantasy creatures. Frankly if you're expecting any whimsical rubbish like that you must close this book at once; this is a serious piece of literature and I expect you to treat it as such) with only one or two small farmhouses besides her own. The soft moorland spread out on either side, old fence-posts the only sign of civilisation. Far away ahead of her, the blue smoke of fireplaces hung like a beacon.
Trying out a new program, namely Oc5.5e
Well that freaked me out in the morning.

You can't afford to be as transparently influenced by a single author, or your work will just be watered-down carbon copying. You need a healthy melting pot of varied inspiration. [editline]8th October 2013[/editline] Oh and try to refrain from breaking the fourth wall, you have to be a really masterful experienced storyteller to pull that one off
Something I started working on last night, just now got to a point where I'm okay calling it "finished" [editline]Updated version a few posts down[/editline] Updated version a few posts down [IMG_thumb]http://th00.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/f/2013/280/0/2/naked_troll_002_by_imtth-d6plktp.png[/IMG_thumb]
I drew something and "finished" it. And it went pretty much as planned. And yeah, it went as planned because I didn't try to draw fancy. Pretty much just for fun.

I agree, I didn't work on the leg bits at all really. Here's an updated version.
Super re-designed version of my old character Silo. I'll see if I can find an older picture for comparison. EDIT: better picture of him

I know there's a lot of Pratchett in there, I think the best solution is just for me to write more. I need to read a wider variety of authors as well - I've been reading pretty much only Pratchett since mid-July haha A bigger writing project that I've been doing on-and-off for the past few years is gonna need a massively different tone, so it's definitely something I want to work on Edit: by fourth wall breaking do you mean that first paragraph bit where I interrupted the narrative with some humorous literary escapades or do you mean that bit where I told the reader they must put the book down, etc?
25~ min study for my beginning drawing class.
I dont think I saw any related threads so might just ask here. Any tips on proportion? I can do some pretty good stuff but when working with big pieces, especially when there's more than one character, I really suck at making all the sizes and stuff consistent, anyone know of something that helped them get better at that kind of stuff?
Random ass sketch I made during class
I like the part where it says dicks.

So is there like some steps I have to follow to properly learn anatomy or do I just have to keep drawing body parts in various different poses and angles? I drew some stuff today. My Hands [t]http://i.imgur.com/1JljWMX.jpg[/t] My Arm and Body [t]http://i.imgur.com/z7KL1Eo.jpg[/t] I also drew some shitty looking guns as I've waited for my exams to finish [t]http://i.imgur.com/o0f7Z5M.jpg[/t]
