Edit: by fourth wall breaking do you mean that first paragraph bit where I interrupted the narrative with some humorous literary escapades or do you mean that bit where I told the reader they must put the book down, etc?
The latter But actually that sort of informality is really tough to do right as well [editline]8th October 2013[/editline]
So is there like some steps I have to follow to properly learn anatomy or do I just have to keep drawing body parts in various different poses and angles? I drew some stuff today. My Hands [t]http://i.imgur.com/1JljWMX.jpg[/t] My Arm and Body [t]http://i.imgur.com/z7KL1Eo.jpg[/t] I also drew some shitty looking guns as I've waited for my exams to finish [t]http://i.imgur.com/o0f7Z5M.jpg[/t]
If you're really keen then reading literature on the subject would certainly be helpful (in the long term at least) You'll want to be looking into gestures as well
Ive found that drawing from observation is the best way to learn anatomy. I suggest models but that's not easily available to everyone. Statues are a good way to learn too if you have access to a museum or something, but again that might be hard too. Your best bet is drawing from classic Greek and Roman statues you can find online. Find a high resolution and just draw them all multiple times and you'll start to understand how the basic shapes of each limb and part of the body works. The reason i suggest statues over pictures of people is that the angular form will be easier to draw and display volume. You want to simplify your drawings at first, no need for curves and details. Start with setting up the space from the top of the head to the bottom of the feet on your page, and then draw the angles to the knee, elbow, shoulder, etc (whatever is farthest to the left or right). Then start drawing basic lines and don't worry about curves, just get the right angles and proportions. Remember everything is in relationship to something else, see where things line up in the picture and see if they do the same in your drawing. Don't follow that circle guides stuff a lot of books recommend. Don't build complicated shapes off of simpler shapes, it's just not a good way to learn. That only applies once you draw conceptual stuff, it should have no place in observation drawings, which are the only kind of drawings you should be doing to learn anatomy. Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.
Made some guns for an old project :
Super re-designed version of my old character Silo. I'll see if I can find an older picture for comparison. EDIT: better picture of him
Looked like he stuck the scissors up his butt. Sorry
Looked like he stuck the scissors up his butt. Sorry
Just angle them to the side so they look like they're slung across his back like a normal weapon.
Yeah, I'll have to fix that. Like this?
You guys have inspired me to try to become a better artist, so I'm going to attempt to draw one animal a day from this little field guide I have. Found myself a 2B pencil- I notice it draws darker than a normal pencil, and this is fun. My biggest problem is that I pet my lines way too much- it starts as a potato, and then sculpts its self into a picture, but I'm trying to get better lines. Also, I need to get better at calculating distances and lengths, but that'll get better over time. Ill get a picture in as soon as I finish this birdie sketch. [editline]8th October 2013[/editline] Or just one... something a day.
The latter But actually that sort of informality is really tough to do right as well
Oh sweet, thanks for clearing that up!
hello every one i made some low-quality (at least by most standards) pixel art of a certain podcast using a NES color pallet because raisins edit: way too damn small editx2: is there a pixel art thread or no?
starting to wrap this up [editline]8th October 2013[/editline] I'd choose a better title on the left, but its for a school project so yeah
So i just found out that Flux overrides your color profiles even when you turn it off for an hour. Anyone else had problems with it? I couldn't calibrate my monitor at all with it enabled. This whole mac vs windows color profile is really throwing me off I fucking hate it. Why can't all monitors be identical :( Also I was commissioned to redo some of my old pixel art stuff for a game. It's a cool design for sure, and well done as always, but hardly menacing or evil in any sense of the word.

It looks like a generic worker, I'd say give more stuff to make it look more battle-oriented maybe, and definitely something that makes it unique
add red lights everywher e so all they guys know its spooky bad guy
To be honest it could use some oversized imposing shoulderpads!
point noted
The orange signifies worker, to me. Remember those common cultural icons we see wearing bright orange suits like that - construction workers and their hi-visibility orange jackets, the Rebel Alliance pilots from Star Wars. A uniform that unites them as part of a group. I don't think that particular colour when applied to that sort of clothing is something we associate with high-level leadership and villainy. Head looks quite villainous, with the 'dangerous' shape language (spikes often used to show that something is dangerous or evil, think Sauron, Darth Maul, the overall triangular shape of Darth Vader, satan's horns, etc) and those triangular, pointed eyes (visible in the second one across) but in the first and third images the sense of 'evil' is diminished somewhat where the actual face is concerned, because we don't see the sharp eye very clearly and, esp. in number 1, we can't really see any sharp spikes. No. 1 sort of looks more frog/gungan like from that angle. It's looking great though, and I'm glad to see how far you've come! Keep it up mate
I'm curious as to why it's got boobs. Is it a robot, or a cyborg, or what?

Is it a robot, or a cyborg, or what?
evil titty guns [editline]9th October 2013[/editline] salmon do you mind if I put your image and my critique of it on my university research blog? [editline]9th October 2013[/editline] I'd also like to say that my comment about how the front-on view of the head doesn't display a sense of being sinister should be taken with a pinch of salt - I reckon that if the body expressed a sense of being villainous we could maybe excuse the head from being a bit non-villainous from that particular angle. I mean after all, you'd see this character from a variety of angles throughout the film. Don't take that as gospel though - I could be entirely wrong
starting to wrap this up
It's cool, but these blacks just make it look dirty. Since her shirt shining bright and orange, it could be a good idea to use some purple or just darker reds if you want it to have deep shadows as it does now. Also, I think it could be a good idea to add details to the helmet to attract some attention to it. Head is a quite important part of the character imo, and I personally just can't stop watching her bright torso outfit. So some orange strokes on the helmet and maybe kneepads could make these parts more interesting. As for the gun, it looks so.. smooth, kinda like a plastic toy or something. Try to add some straight lines and acute angles. Maybe something like that: [thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/edit9.jpg[/thumb]
Well honestly I made it intentionally, just because this character really reminds me of them :)
me too a bit, my initial thought regarding the head was General Greivous
Man the prequels were dreadful
The right arm looks a bit big but what do you guys think? I call him "The Drawing Wizard" Edit:I fixed him a bit but I'm just going to leave the original one up.

The original for this picture is from the PSP game Loco Roco (original), but I created the vector myself. Link.
