Yeah stylistically that's pretty weirdly inconsistent given the girth of his neck.
No ninja pixie, aww.

I'm finding gimp clunky to paint in. Can anyone recommend some reasonably priced digital painting software?
I've noticed autodesk sketchbook pro 6 is pretty low cost, looks really good, and the reviews on amazon are great. Good choice?
Some more progress on our mobile game, the first scenario should receive a few more optimizations but it's done. We started a new one too, this one is very tough to capture the atmosphere correctly, especially considering the mobile limitations, so we had to make a few changes, but here's the first version:

Sketchbook isn't really the go-to program to paint in, as the name suggests it's better for sketching digitally, just getting ideas down quickly. I don't have it but as I understand it it's fairly limited.

I like the design, especially the view from the back, even though it looks a bit strange without a tailplane. And there are still lots of blacks. The funny thing is that you managed to find a nice metal colour (like on the nose) but everything else is just black. I know that i'm saying this for the umpteenth time, but try to use more colours. Also, try to define some small details in the focal centers, because it really gives a sense of realism. And yeah, there is something wierd with the perspective, not so sure though because i'm sleepy like hell.
A small overpaint, as always.

At first glance I thought you'd made it worse - but some of the little details do really add a lot. Thank you!
Did this in class with pen because I was bored and we weren't doing anything

My phone camera sucks ass though, but I think it actually came out looking similar to the Doom 2 DBS

I think you've played too much doom 2
Was procrastinating on an assignment. Honestly I'm not making any progress because I never practice anymore- I just go to eat, go to class, stare at the internet, and sleep.

Well, I totally could make the whole thing worse, because I was barely adequate while writing the critique. Insomnia is a bad thing, you know. But the main idea I tried to tell is that you don't need to make everything black to get a good contrast piece.
This is the only place I can think to ask this, it came up In a lecture today and I didn't have long to sketch it down and the lecturer didn't know the name of it, does anyone know what the piece is called? It's a little wood sculpture.
Sorry for posting something terrible though.
I just got a graphic design internship which is cool! I had to do some sketches for a mock promotional video for their company as part of my interview (their mascot is the pig with sunglasses and they basically offer free prints to students)

Hmm ok, what is good then? I've seen artrage, paint tool sai, and open canvas mentioned but I have no idea which is best. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm kinda confortable with SAI, but I'm no expert, so I may be misinformed.

Work-In-Progress of Curly,
first time ever using Sai aside from quick outlines of sketches to go to Illustrator.

Thats down to personal preference a lot, i'd try a trial of a few personally.
Art rage is super simple and clean, not a lot of fancy options for sure but the restrictions can be a great way to learn
Sai is the main program I use for cleaner smoother lineart etc, since im usually not the painterly type, it works quite well for painting though as well, with a fair number more options than art rage. Bonus in that it is basically abandonware. They still sell an official version but havent made updates in ages, its only through fan work that its even been updated to work on newer systems etc
What OS are you running though? Some programs like sai only work on windows etc

I use Painter, but it isn't simple or easy to use, it's kind of a bitch actually
Outside of that I would recommend PS, but I know that's outside your price range. I'm not really familiar with any free or cheap software other than GIMP, which I wouldn't paint in simply because I have better options
