Fuck, you've got a wire armature inside the clay? Sorry, but you're not going to be able to fire it. I mean, I guess there's nothing technically stopping you, but it's not a good idea. Clay and metal have different... I'm not sure what the term is, I think it's "thermal profiles". They expand and contract at different rates, at different temperatures. The clay expands and shrinks differently from the metal; I think metal retains heat and thus stays expanded for longer, meaning that the clay is going to want to shrink into a space that it cannot, and thus will crack. There may also be the issue of the metal itself; I once asked my instructor about having metal inside the kiln and he said that the metal would cast off impurities in the form of vapor or gases, and if you've got a wire skeleton inside there throwing off gas and vapor with nowhere to go, it's going to explode. To be fair, I've never made and fired a figure with a wire armature, so this is all second-hand info, but everything I've seen has advised me against it.
I've been firing clay with wire in it for years, never had a problem with it.
Wire armatures in clay sculpture is extremely common practice to my knowledge
I can't get around to drawing anything so I drew Sharks and Anime [t]http://i.imgur.com/W0P9NlL.jpg[/t]

i also drew anime it is fan art of top anime of the season, "kill la kill" by studio trigger
Wire armatures in clay sculpture is extremely common practice to my knowledge
It's common practice in synthetic clay like Sculpey, because Sculpey is basically plastic and has more give than stoneware clay. If it's like terracotta and ceramics, then no. At least, as far as I've heard. I mean, if having a wire armature for stoneware is ok, then I'm going to be really annoyed because I've been making figures the hard way this whole time.

Good god, I love your work.. If you don't mind me asking, do you have any books you'd recommend by any chance?
idk I think having wire in stoneware could be an issue when you go to fire it, given you've got a super-conductive substance now sitting within your clay, and that substance is going to expand/contract at different rates to the clay around it and I'd imagine you'd end up with it being structurally more fragile do some research on it though because I might be wrong

It looks a little odd right now imo with her calf jotting out that low.

It looks a bit odd and unclear though, and you're not the first who thinks it's a one ugly placed knee. I'm going to fix them as well as some other issues tomorrow anyway.
First time using shading and colour in Photoshop. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/34938612/Monster.png[/t] The only other stuff I did was these crappy head sketches.. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/34938612/Untitled-3.jpg[/t]
I know the drawing is shit but is my technique good? Currently just using low opacity brushes and the multiply blending mode.

Took a terrible quality picture of an underpainting I did. I can't wait to start it, I really love my painting class. Here's a painting my teacher finished yesterday and brought to class.
I know the drawing is shit but is my technique good? Very few programs mix colours well like that, and the brushstrokes with full opacity look a lot nicer than layered transparents as well :) As for sketches work more on having long single strokes, rather than lots of short overlapping ones. Your sketches at first will look worse, since by nature its easy to use petted lines to cover mistakes, since the brain can fill in which line would be best, but you'll improve a lot more from working with more accurate smooth lines over time I might recommend some basic shape work, based on your top image. Try using full opacity brushes in greyscale to just make a few shapes, spheres and cones are good ones to practice on just as a start :) You would be amazed how much some basic shape work improves everything else

Figured I should do something for halloween since I'm not dressing up, and I felt like doing some practice work so yeah this is a thing: [thumb]http://th06.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/f/2013/303/0/f/halloween_special_by_lily_fae-d6sg6oy.png[/thumb] I forgot to flip-check it until the very end :v: I really dont do practice stuff often enough

What is blending. Around 40 minutes each.
How do I go about mixing colours in photoshop?
Photoshop also has a mixing-brush tool which functions a lot like the real-paint-simulated-mixing that Sai has I've never experimented with it though [editline]1st November 2013[/editline]
Really reminds me of Maloof.
thanks matey
So I'm 6 days into my 3 month long unpaid design internship for a small startup business. Today I was offered the position of creative manager. How awesome is that? It's only a teeny company at the moment but still!

I think it's awesome you get to work in the industry, but "unpaid" and "manager" brushes me the wrong way.

I think it's awesome you get to work in the industry, but "unpaid" and "manager" brushes me the wrong way.
Yup, there'll be a salary. Originally at the end of the 3 month internship, 2 of the 4 interns would be getting full time work, but he's decided already that he wants me full time, so I also have to help decide which of the other interns to take on. Pretty daunting, but incredibly cool. 2 weeks ago it seemed like I was going to really struggle to get unpaid work, let alone a job with a salary. I'm by no means a great graphic designer so if you want work but you don't think you're good enough, you might well be - just gotta be lucky enough to come across an employer looking for your kind of stuff.

But yes, it would be a problem otherwise!
I'm trying to design the main character for a game i'm working on as my final project for school, I'm trying to give her a somewhat distinctive silhouette I don't know anything about what women wear this is difficult

You should also pick poses which read well in full black like that, form the black before going for the character details (the opposite way most people think of doing it) With human characters its really about style and body types, curvy wide, or tall skinny etc. You've got a pretty good average non-exaggerated female character there, which works fine for a main character really. Since mains are usually the closest to an average person. That'll work fine so long as the rest of your characters have a very different form. I might recommend making the lip of her hat go out more by the way, it looks far too short to be functional and doesnt really stand out enough in the silhouette as is.
