I wish you could animate in SAI (I drew the frames in SAI and imported them to Photoshop to animate)
If you got a copy of potatoshop, why do you insist on drawing in SAI? Sure the line stabilizer can be useful at first but get used to not relying on it and you wont need it.

The way I would use it, I would use Sai for clean linework and PS for painting and editing. Even though I do both in Sai anyway.
I can't really agree, your linework is as good as you make it and I don't really like relying on a stabilizer, especially not with the inconvenience of not having all of the usefulness that is Photoshop. Each to his own of course, SAI is fine for what it is, but at least I personally would always use PS when I had the option to.
Photoshop may be more comprehensive as an illustration tool, but it's fucking bloated and slow. It's not about stabilization, it's about easily quantifiable delay making the whole thing not as good as it could be. Just because they almost have a monopoly don't make them the best.
THIS ONE NEEDS HELP I think its the colour scheme Crit please!!!!
I think it's just a matter of making the hard lighting look more natural. Also consider the light being reflected off the floor/walls and onto the figures, and yeah I'd agree on the casting shadows thing. Finished the study after Rubens. It was done in a similar way as he did it, brown and black ink over chalk, highlighted with white gouache, layered with grey and brown wash.
thingy im working on in class w/ watercolors plan to add mount rushmore with nicolas cage's faces also that yellow on the eye is that glue stuff you can remove later. forgot the name..
It's a shame you've already come so far on the piece though. That coulda been an easy fix :s
there's a very strong contrast between your colour palettes. the ground is blue-grey and dull while your lighting is very vibrant and harsh. i'm not sure what you're trying to do with it.
This is not good crit, direct and ambient light contrast is a good thing, and the lighting is neither harsh nor vibrant. @salmon the light is actually much too dull/diffuse for the angle you've got the sun at. There should never really be that much red in cast light. And I assume it's a wip because the soldiers and some other parts look reeeeally lazy atm :v:
THIS ONE NEEDS HELP I think its the colour scheme
As already said, more diffuse lighting on the soldiers, but also, the stairs in the background seem to lead up to a wall, since there is no other room up there.
I think it's more strange that the stairs lead off the side of the building
Thanks for all the feedback and critique guys, I love it! Unfortunately I lost that PSD while uploading it to Google drive, so I just started a brand new similar-but-different composition. This is the last progress shot I took of the guys in the hallway: [img_thumb]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NuaAywnnKWo/UozQYo0XsWI/AAAAAAAAAgU/dWSDRxCV6DI/s1600/Sebastian_Kings_Environment_1_wip.jpg[/img_thumb] And this is my new composition. Thanks again for the crit guys, you're the best!

Gah I fucking knew I recognized that - Our first introduction to portraits in art class was an 8-hour study of a replica of that bust. Right pain in the ass that one! You did a great job though.

Well, I have even 3000x1700, but it doesn't look very good because it's kind of a sketch, and the only thing that is more or less rendered is his skull. Anyway, here it is.

You did a great job though.
I wish I had done a more observant study though, I realized now where the neck was supposed to go, it's an easy fix but whatever. I'm going to do more studies of some landscapes and portraits by various painters, it's really helpful. It was for a history research paper, we weren't even supposed to do a serious drawing but I liked the original. I found out that the cross hatching might have actually been done by a student and not Rubens himself. I also found that it was made into an engraving by Lucas Vorsterman [t]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f5/0_Portrait_de_S%C3%A9n%C3%A8que_d'apr%C3%A8s_l'antique_-_Lucas_Vorsterman.JPG/726px-0_Portrait_de_S%C3%A9n%C3%A8que_d'apr%C3%A8s_l'antique_-_Lucas_Vorsterman.JPG[/t] E: I also love Ruben's version of the bust in the Four Philosophers [t]http://tjlifeisbeautiful.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/rubens_four_philosophers.jpg[/t]
Did a mix of photo study and doing my own thing (everest), really pleased with how it turned out. [thumb]http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/324/4/1/everest_pilgrimage_20_11_13_by_jallenthenovice-d6uz9bh.png[/thumb]
got a brief to paint a man, an archaeologist, rugged, made to appeal to middle-aged women trying not to just make indy jones meets nathan drake it isn't going well
That has to be the most generic haircut ever. If you give him some different type of hair, or ethnicity or facial features it would make it less generic. But I kind of like it generic.
I drew this for my mom's birthday. Her favorite bird is the cardinal. [t]http://24.media.tumblr.com/0a80a299f7f1a7bd1ab2e7154de37cbe/tumblr_mwl4dpze8Q1qkje0do1_1280.jpg[/t]

I wish I could visualize my ideas better.. I shouldn't be allowed on this course.. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/34938612/Robot_Done.png[/t]
It's because you need to do the basics wickerman Fundamentals or bust. Trying to illustrate complex ideas without them, what did you expect? You're building a ceiling without any walls.

This is so fucking ace, conceptually and in execution. 10/10

I get given a task for the next possible day and I just have to draw it... What are the fundamentals anyway?
Technical drawing.
I did Advanced Higher graphics, I know how to do technical drawing - just not freehand.
Then you don't know how to do technical academic drawings... Can you draw a person from observation? Can you draw a building, landscape, or object from observation? Can you shade correctly, can you determine values, can you build form, can you represent volume, can you draw proportionally, can you determine and use perspective, can you apply your drawing technique to different mediums, can you paint, can you color things correctly? These are technical skills you should learn before jumping into conceptual drawings and illustrations. You're trying to play a guitar without knowing any chords or how to strum.
