A lot of elements look flat, try practicing with lines and wireframes of different objects and shapes to get a better feel for showing plasticity, it'll also help with your perspective lines. I've noticed it's a consistent problem through all of your works and I think it's a bigger deal than the colours. I like your way of rendering, and if I'd have to comment on the colours, there is nothing wrong with combining two tones like this, but you should seriously honestly look up complementary colours. They're supposed to be on the opposite ends of the spectrum, you can't just pick any orange and blue or green and red, the effect just isn't there. Also, the amount matters. With blue and orange it's 2/3 blue and 1/3 orange for the best balance (red/green is 50/50, yellow/purple is 1/4 yellow and 3/4 purple), here you have it almost opposite and the blue is saturated as hell.
Keep the colour thing in mind, I don't think it'll be a huge problem for you to fix, because you're still pretty good with colours, but focus on showing the shape of objects.
4-5 Hour portrait study

Been taking a semester course in classical drawing and this is pretty much the only piece where I feel I'm not seeing any glaring mistakes (aside from a missing cast shadow from the glasses). I guess this'll be a nice addition to my portfolio!
There is deformation on the lip, particularly the bit between it and the nose. Well actually the foreshortening in general is rather poor. It's not bad, but for a 4-5 hour portrait study, you should continue practicing. I think you're on the right track though, I like it a lot.
had a lot of access to a print studio recently.

I'm loving what I'm seeing.
On a side note, a wave of artist depression just hit me. I looked at too many just god damn amazing artists, and now I can't help but feel mediocre and inadequate. Yeah, I've gotten a little better over the years, but some of their skills just feeeeeel soooo unreachable.
Anybody have a cure for this sort of thing? I can't be like this all weekend.

Draw from real life.
If you don't, it could take thousands of iterations of trial and error, trying to make it look good and you still might not get there.
When you draw from real life, you are adaptive, it's not trial and error, it's a methodical process in which you take what you see and learn from it.
Fuuucking shit i've never been so stressed out in my life. I just mailed the 3 paintings to the UK using USPS Priority cause express and global weren't available for paintings/ big boxes and UPS was $400. So now I have to wait 2 weeks for him to get it AND they're uninsured and I bet the wrapping paper is gonna end up sticking to the painting surface now, which I didn't think of before. Everything is gonna go wrong I just know it.
An old painting I made in art class a year ago (when my parents first saw it they actually thought that it was a professional painting used as a complimentary gift for a package they bought)

Ditching digital painting for a while to animate some more. Doodled the frames in class and I'm happy how it turned out for just eyeballing it.

Do any of you guys do pixel art? What software do you use? Paint.NET is a pain in the arse and I don't like Gimp.

If I was in that predicament I'd probably do a portrait. Nailing a portrait usually feels good as an artist, and it's pretty safe if you're reffing.

So, for starters, thinking about the composition/framing as a whole may help up the quality. Don't be afraid to crop it, and the figure is a little of center/ oddly angled. Flip the clip horizontally to see what I'm talking about.
For the animation, to be short, a lot of his movement feels restricted, especially in the torso. Look at video reference of martial arts (a lot of professionals use video reference, so no shame), for a more natural movement.
Also any stiffness or jittering that occurs can be fixed with a proper understanding of ease-in ease-out, one of the twelve principles of animation. (explored on pages 37-39) Many will recommend "The Illusion of Life," but this guide is more approachable and shorter.

Overall, great starters, for just a few hours. If you want a high quality, you'll have to put in some more time.

I finished Assassins Creed: Black Flag, and it's left me with that horrible empty feeling you get when you finish an awesome game. Painted a pirate ship at sunset in the caribbean.
