A great basic tutorial on cartoon faces for you:

Learn to be looser and build from basic forms. Warning: lots of Dreamworks face.
Does photoshop have anything similar to SAI's stabilizer?
I'm trying to improve my programmer art to the point where it is no longer programmer art. Still a long ways.

Do any of you guys do pixel art? What software do you use? Paint.NET is a pain in the arse and I don't like Gimp.
Paint.NET is the best software for pixel art I have used.
What exactly do you not like about it?

Just small things like the eraser always defaulting to anti aliasing.
I found some really good software called PyxelEdit that I am using now, it's great.

MSPaint for life, move aside scrub
no but srs paint.net is crap to me simply because it doesn't feel like a program with it's own focus, but an art program that's pretending we're back in 2000 and MSPaint is the only program to beat, so now you end up with a thing that's too advanced too comfortably make pixel art with but too shitty to do anything else

oh pyxeledit is nice, the free version is really good (and the default palette is actually usable)
I paid for the animation features, it has some really cool shortcuts/features that the free one doesn't have as well.
It does look worth the money, but I am a lowly poor student with no means of paying for anything online :v:

Set blending mode to overwrite, then just use 100% transparency colour with the pencil tool to erase.
Tbh I find it really easy to work with, you can just turn on the pixel grid and use the pencil tool exclusively. Pretty much as simple as it gets.
Have you got a bank account? Paypal isn't that hard to set up. I'm sure you can scrounge up $9 even if it takes a few weeks. Hell pirate it, if you are broke I don't see any reason not to.

Even still PyxelEdit has some really nice features.

That sounds like trying to taxi a plane on the road like it's a car when it should obviously fly. I can't find a single reason why Paint.net is/would be worth using.

Nah, I don't need those premium features yet, and the default version is pretty much a more streamlined MSPaint, focused on pixel art with no shoehorned antialiased brushes or fancy effects that are no match for competing apps like photoshop, which is exactly what I imagine a program used for pixel art should be.
Does photoshop have anything similar to SAI's stabilizer?
no which is why i infinitely prefer SAI for linework. i'm sure professionals in the field will disagree but i hardly care.
You know what doesn't need a stabiliser and doesn't have a horrible UI
A pencil

Cartoon faces are fun to draw so I'll focus on that for now, thanks. (1 means it's based off of a template and 2 is original)
I think I'm done with this piece:

The girls are very flat. The highlights are fine but then there's just midtone where there should be shadows

I get the new page a lot

dunno what I think of this
Her facial anatomy looks...goofy to say the least, and the asymmetrical nature of the headpiece initial had me thinking it was just a perspective issue.

That is why you find alternatives!
Hell my tutors at University tell students to do that if they're stuck!

The wing anatomy is nonexistant, very pretty though

I wonder what the[sp]plot[/sp]is.
Ugh, I like this a lot less than I would like to admit.
I'm not a good writer, but I had this thought as I was walking back from work.
"Bright in the shadow, dark under the light.
All but the same shade of grey."
So I painted that piece.

I made my myself a deck of cards, about birds.
That's just incredible.
Awesome job!

post the rest of the cards
post the rest of the cards
I would but they're exactly the same but with different suits.
My prof didn't give me enough time to finish 9 other face cards, but when I have free time in the future I plan to draw the rest. Tho they wouldn't get printed.
ur style owns
I guess half an hour of work does pay off
