you should shade it, try crosshatching
I tried that a long time ago. And I'll have to remove all the pseudo-shading on the original drawing. (I'll do it later today or tomorrow) Edit: you mean the paper or the digital outline one?
the digital

I was drawing a knight and I accidentally gave him extremely long legs, but I used that for inspiration and got this... (I guess this would count as creative in an idea sense rather than technical skill)
I got some sketches from my most recent weekly bus ride (it's a two hour drive)

and also a random piece that didn't have enough of an unbalanced composition so I scrapped it, ~1 hour of work gone to shit :v:

you should shade it, try crosshatching
It's not finished but I would like some feedback
Her facial anatomy looks...goofy to say the least, and the asymmetrical nature of the headpiece initial had me thinking it was just a perspective issue.
Aye these are things that happen if you do a quick sketch and then paint it without bothering to make sure it's alright :v: [editline]9th December 2013[/editline]
It's not finished but I would like some feedback
Netting it, and not suggesting form. Crosshatching is not a good technique to recommend to a beginner
Progess!
The faces are pretty comical, especially the bowmen in the bg
It's not finished but I would like some feedback
Rather than crosshatching with digital, I find the easiest and most visually pleasing way to shade line art is to create a layer under the line layer and use semi-transparent shades of a single colour (grey, blue, brown) to define it. Kind of like how you might with watercolour in a comic.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/h6HerPY.jpg[/t] I've never used Photoshop to sketch in my life. Vectors, yes, sketching, no. I have no idea what I'm doing :\

They have high contrast which draws our eye to them IRL, just like areas of high contrast in a painting.
The faces are pretty comical, especially the bowmen in the bg
I suppose "comical" is better than "disfigured" or "inhuman" I presume there is room to improve there though?
Well basically as I see it the left one's face isn't near complete- you've just drawn some lines for the basic expression- which I'm not sure I agree is appropriate. I'd have thought they'd be at least a little bit happy? Either way left and right's faces look like placeholders, especially compared to center's face.
Yeah exactly, I assumed they were placeholder faces. If they're the best you could do (they clearly aren't) then yeah there's tonnes of room to improve :v:
They're not so much placeholders as just preliminary roughs. I'm gonna put some time into them to add some emotion and proper colours+value
this is my first real digital painting project where I've actually gone for an overtly painterly style [t]http://i.imgur.com/31ACLws.jpg[/t] still a very early wip. I plan on colouring it eventually but I'm not really sure how to go about doing that; would I be better off starting again in full colour? [editline]9th December 2013[/editline] also I'm not necessarily going for a photorealistic feel; I want it to have a sorta fairytale feel cause I'm going to have a mermaid/yeti type scene going on [t]http://i.imgur.com/PT42PuG.jpg[/t] updated version
I never would have been able to do this without a reference, I still need to find a way to make the face less flat.

Are all areas of his suit the same value (darkness / lightness of colour)? Are all areas of his face the same value? His hair? His shirt? Do his clothes have no wrinkles? Do all of his beard hairs go in the same direction? Are his beard hairs equally spaced on the side of his face to the front of his face? You need to focus more on drawing what you are actually seeing. In addition, a portrait drawing should probably be taking you at least an hour at this stage, probably considerably more.
Yeah this took like 15 minutes to draw and I was in the school library so I had limited resources
Don't post work that you didn't put effort into
Don't post work that you didn't put effort into
I have a short attention span and it becomes a problem... And it all depends on the outcome not so much the time, for example here's a flower pot that took literally 3 minutes to make
don't use short attention span to justify complacency just work in 15 min periods if its really that bad
Along with that- don't try to make excuses in reaction to comments and criticism. It's so easy to try and defend your work in whatever way you can, but you've been dodging a lot of comments made on ways you can improve your work and it's not a healthy habit to get into.
