Don't mind me- this is a pretty minor complaint but- regardless of your point, I don't think making snarky one-off comments with ellipses thrown in is very constructive. It comes across pretty unfriendly, there's a lot of better ways you could have phrased it that wouldn't be putting down other people trying to make suggestions.
Not nice eh
or just make the red text brighter....
nah i'd rather not
best bet right now is for a composition change (because it's mingin anyways) and then if that's still not enough, a black stroke
actually u can

i like that menu chesto the only bad thing i see is the smoke not really fitting with the rest of the scene's low poly lines idk if that's something you can really change though at all
woah that's really cool thank you
yeh i spotted the smoke too. i'm not sure why it's like that because the in-game smoke is really polygonal and angular. maybe it's a misplaced asset or maybe it's the DoF fucking with it. i'll look into it
[editline]13th December 2013[/editline]
programmer is really trying hard to avoid writing an essay so we just fixed it:
smoke was being included in the DoF when the chimney was not which is why it looked like it was from a different art-style, so now they both are but to a lesser degree
composition is now more rule of thirds - looks way more interesting and the text no longer overlaps with the cabin so it should be easy to read

i'm sorry why am i writing a changelog here
I shat out some compositions for my class

I did some pixel art for my friend, made it into a card I'm giving him for his 21st.
The two dudes are me and him (I'm the green one) in Blacklight Retribution, that's the gear we usually wear.
I think I'm getting better, this was actually a pretty quick job, (but I still worked off a reference so don't think I'm amazing, I'm average at best)
The colors are a bit muddy overall but it looks pretty solid.

This is the reference I worked off.
(NOTE I DIDNT DRAW THIS)

Finally got around to finishing this up. It was an exercise in hard surfaces, clothing and photo-bashing. Inspired by Fightpunch again.

The elements look copy/pasted together because of obvious lighting and rendering differences
Soft shadows in between different sections would probably help break it up and make it flow better.
The scarf in particular just looks pasted on top
The elements look copy/pasted together because of obvious lighting and rendering differences
Parts of it are copy and pasted together. It was a photobash/production practice. I think a week or so ago when I took it down to a smaller resolution for the .png file I accidentally saved the .psd at that size. A lot of it got blurry.
I'll run over it and do a lighting pass.
I realized that drawing without a framework is just like pissing on the floor. It's messy and you have a strong urge to clean it up.

How do Shade?
thanks for the feedback! we'll try adding some sort of little border to the text. i've looked at the values of the scene too and, while obviously i can't replicate the effects of various colourblindness in photoshop, i think it can be fixed by changing the composition - even for me it's clear that the text that is in front of the cabin doesn't stand out enough
http://colororacle.org/
This program simulates colorblindness. I havent used it myself but since it modifies the screen color you should be able to just have it running in the background and affect everything.
because the helmet was drawn from imagination but the rest was referenced
[editline]13th December 2013[/editline]
this is always gonna be an issue if your understanding of lighting and form and material isn't that great but you try to add imagined elements to an otherwise referenced painting
You're lines look a bit wobbly.
I suggest you get your hands on Paint Tool SAI, it has a really well made Stabilisation feature.
Holy crap this is an amazing tool, thank you my friend! :)
I already started working on the next drawing with it, and I see a huge improvement (I know there are still some wobbly lines, but that's a matter of skill and I will get over it eventually)
What do you think?

I recommend to make gun more 3d. And add some direct light shadows, it will make drawing more drammatic.
I made quick overpaint to show how it may looks like.

I need to stop drawing stick figures, this is getting silly.
Problem is I'm not sure...how to improve my proper anatomy. Lots of practice, yeah, but it's really hard to apply yourself when the product looks "eh". But I guess that's just how it is.
Edit:
And it doesn't help that I practically only draw stylized drawings. That's a problem.
I always recommend working through a classical approach, by first studying figured and building a strong sense for observation and anatomy. It's really not that difficult to learn, you just need to apply yourself in specific areas, rather then try to practice everything at the same time. Can't draw a human figure correctly? Do studies of individual parts of the body. Draw hands, feet, legs, stomachs, necks, heads. Can't draw heads? Draw eye, noses, mouths, ears. Always work from observation, it will slowly bring your work and understanding of the subject together and after a bit of practice you'll be able to correctly draw an entire figure from observation. Look at how the lines bend when compared to a straight vertical and horizontal plane and stick to practicing a specific thing for a while. My drawing teacher has a really good tutorial site http://www.drawing-tutorials-online.com/

I know it's just a quick drawing, but nobody who isn't critically obese or malformed has hips wider than their chest, or a horizontal flat section between their legs wider than their head.
There is no point in drawing a frame if the frame is completely wrong, and in fact I find that kind of frame completely useless personally because it emphasises something which doesn't exist. It's more logical to draw a 3 dimensional framework made up of the basic 3D shapes (cylinder, sphere, cone, box)
If you saw a strangely proportioned man IRL, you would immediately know that he looked weird and why. Apply that to your drawings.

My rule is if you can't draw a perfect figure from observation than you shouldn't even attempt to do one without reference. It just doesn't make sense. You would be practicing drawing something the wrong way and just making things worse for yourself.

At this stage, drawing anything but realism from reference is useless.
