At this stage, drawing anything but realism from reference is useless.
I am terrified of realism but at the same time I understand that the best way to learn how to do cartoon figures is to know how draw real person first.

Did a self portrait. First time painting a face. Took me about 3.5 hours. I really find faces hard. Fortunately I'm more interested in painting environments :v: [thumb]http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/347/6/8/selfportrait_14_12_13_by_jallenthenovice-d6xttkr.png[/thumb]
-i'll just practice some more-

Right now you're on step 2 of a 4 step process (sketch, basic colors, render, detail). And don't use that small brush shit for hair. Look at some of her stuff face studies, maybe it'll help you http://dawnelainedarkwood.deviantart.com/
This took a while I really hope it's good enough It's a bitten apple and its sorta rotting
Can you post the reference you used?
Can you post the reference you used?
If you mean me, I used none. I know that'd against what I've been told to do on here, but I did get help with shading from an artistic friend..

Cartoons and unreferenced crap Your apple doesn't look like an apple, it looks like a red pepper because the shape is weird, and the shading is terrible because that isn't how light works at all. Made this because I needed an avatar for dumblr
Raagh. School, work, broken computer kept me away. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30622781/thirtyfiveminute.jpg[/t]
I need some help. I gotta make some retarded business card and an interactive pdf portfolio bullshit for computer class (who the fuck makes pdf portfolios anymore?). Oh class starts in 9 hours. I literally only had today to work on it, I fucking hate this class. Heres what I got so far (+ more pages with work). I need to make it so that when you hover over the corners it shows the little flip page thing and then when you click takes you to the next page. Also the buttons will be interactive or some shit idk and business card. This front side and then with different work on the back Does anything look extremely retarded or is it fine? Im not gonna use this for anything other than class I think...
Hardly matters then does it? But it looks fine anyway. You have that WW painting in there twice and one of them is sideways, that's weird.
The top 4 images are the portfolio and the bottom ones are the card. I just realized I should have enlarged and cropped the images to fit the entire space on the back, oh well. Took forever to print and cut each individual card. Anyone got any idea how to make an interactive PDF in Indesign? E: I can't tell what shit and whats good anymore. I've been in the computer lab for the past 14 hours :v: EE: I don't wanna go home cause that means paying $5 for the subway EEE: Someone's eating McDonalds fuck why does food cost money Here's my bs portfolio if anyone cares https://www.mediafire.com/?uuksewuzmwaw3sr
Raagh. School, work, broken computer kept me away. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30622781/thirtyfiveminute.jpg[/t]
That is awesome.
Kinda outdone by everything else on this page, but hey, I haven't done any proper drawing in over a year. I was feeling particularly inspired by Starbound so I drew my floran character. [t]http://i.imgur.com/EC0YSYU.jpg[/t]

Sorry I'll stop posting here for a while and come back after a few months of practice
I read what he said and I just drew my first proper still life without using my head, I listened and I hope this is good. (The shadow is unrealistic because the orange itself is the main focus) [thumb]http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/348/b/7/an_apeeling_orange_by_danielsmith300-d6xwlkw.png[/thumb] [editline]14th December 2013[/editline] Reference
did you draw it from the reference (looking at the picture in your computer) or looking at the orange irl?
irl
thats what i thought do it again, but this time look at the picture and include the dish (?) its in
I already put it back in the fridge, hopefully it's not eaten already. I'll work on the orange and another thing and I'll post them when they are done.
[T]http://i.imgur.com/JrrrNaB.jpg[/T] So I've made this recently for my Art class which I've based on Soviet-era propaganda. I would apreciate any comments about it. And sorry for the picture quality.

Would make the back and front side work together as well. I like the portfolio, very direct, clear and to the point. Who doesn't make PDF portfolios? Not everyone has the time to go to a website or meet a person directly to see their printed portfolio. The PDF can be accessed at any time anywhere, no need for net, quick and easy to open and close, no clicking around.
the shape is obviously not right, but about the lighting, check this out: did you draw it from the reference (looking at the picture in your computer) or looking at the orange irl?
This reference makes absolutely no sense. The shadows would be much lighter when it's put right ontop of a pure white surface. The skylight is not affecting it at all. Where are the blue and green lights? Why is it not brightened up on the edges where it meets the surface and it meets the sky?
Really don't know what to do with this color-wise. Would this be good on a shirt?
Finished pretty complicated picture.
