WIP. C&C please. MakoSkyDub... either you or Maloof? was trying to get me to do a bright and vivid colour scene
im trying
T'was Maloof wot done it
My advice was to do a few landscape photostudies to a good level of accuracy so that some value and colour knowledge rubs off into your unreffed work

I'm sorry but reading is just so boring

go to ctrl paint and pick up his realistic materials guide. texturing is one of my biggest weaknesses so I found it worth every penny.
*edit*
fuck, Jericho_Rus beat me to it.

I've ventured once again into this... colouring stuff you chaps have been doing and decided that I tried it myself. It was hella messy.
Edit: god, that last one was huge.
Awesome, these make me think of a Miyazaki film maybe it's the colors.
The amount of wrinkles in the clothing is a bit off-putting to me as well as the scratchiness of the linework in some places.
also the poses/anatomy are pretty odd, which is really apparent in the second one.
Thanks for pointing out the wrinkles, had a feeling there were too many..
The poses are deliberately odd since it's fun to draw, and I have a bad habit of not using references.
Oh man, are these concepts for an animation?
Yeah.
Asking for people's opinions:
Does working with digital medium faster than traditional if you're going for the same goal? Provided that you already have the fundamental and advanced knowledges.

Depends on the look and expression you want from your work.
I've always been terrible with art, usually sticking to the programming side of things because of that.
But I was bored and made this with the help of a friend.

It's the kind of retro style I want in my game, this was meant as an experiment but I'm pretty happy with it considering I have basically zero experience with this.

I think some blue and purple tones in the plane's shadow areas could diversify the colur scheme a lot, especially if the background itself wasn't so saturated and blue. Also, the composition is really stuffy and lacks volume. Just saying.
UPD:
But yeah, like everyone say, your colours don't look muddy at least anymore, and that's really cool.
It's been a while since i made pixelart.

Pretty crappy compared to most of the stuff in this thread:

I didn't comment cause I expected someone else to do it. But I thought it was great, I'd like to see more. It's a small thread, I haven't gotten any compliments or tips yet
I want to improve my drawing skills so I will start "One drawing a day" challenge, I'll mostly draw landscape.
This is going to be quite a challenge for me, I hope I can learn something while doing it.

Draw racing cars and the area around the racing tracks.
Maybe I should buy a drawing tablet.
Can someone tell me which ones are good and which are bad?
Do traditional stuff first and the other guys will see if you could work well with digital.

Or no
Work at a higher resolution. Start out smaller but increase later to add more detail.
Also, I'd recommend doing a piece like this on 4 different layers because there are 4 distinct planes: The orange plane, the clouds, the yellow plane, and the ocean.
If you do that you can easily map out the ocean in broader strokes and more efficiently fiddle with the lighting. As for the clouds, pump up the whites on the closer ones- give em more of a dynamic range.

Alright, geuss I'll concider it again after a few months of practice.

Yeah, i'm kind of a wuss when it comes to contrasts.
I'll keep it in mind for next time!

buy a monoprice or bamboo after you get good at drawing (monoprice is way cheaper and arguably better but requires a bit of fiddling with drivers the first time round)

is this too/not detailed enough for a background for a thing

Just wanted to throw out, the entire face shouldn't be one flat shade of grey. Just as a circle under any light condition will be as a whole a gradient, so should the face, with pronounced features exaggerating the gradients. Do as many photostudies as possible, you'll realize quickly that one end of the face is much brighter or much darker than the other end, even if at first glance you wouldn't notice the difference.

This is a scaled down version of the full painting, which is 1600x1200. It has to scale down 2x to fit an 800x600 game menu background. That aside, thanks for the advice

I really like what you have going on here stylistically, it's really pretty.
One thing you might want to look at is your poses--I feel like they don't read very well. Like the first one, people kept quoting it and I had to scroll back and find the full-size one before I could tell what the dragon guy's arms are doing. And the second one his arm is tangent with his leg and the lines of action are all jumbled. Maybe work on doing poses that read better in silhouette and have stronger gestures to them? Cause I think that's the one thing that's stopping these from being super rad and compelling.

I love this!
Disk's pictures look like four different people worked on them in a collab without giving composition any thought, kind of all over the place

In almost all cases yes
It's a no brainer really, you don't have to have a studio space or set up easels or mix paints or wash brushes or stretch canvases or any of the painful expensive shit that trad painting entails. Just straight into it, so freeing.
On the other hand you'll never be quite as accurate with the tablet and stylus as you are with a pencil say (unless maybe on a cintiq). Drawing smooth flowing curves from one specific point to another is far more difficult on a tablet for instance. You can't see your hand interacting with the surface, can't ghost your lines properly, it's hard to get an accurate pivot with your wrist etc. etc.
Plus pen pressure isn't as useful and versatile in that case, so for linework traditional is a good deal faster in my experience. You can retry lines and clean up a lot easier digitally of course, but it'll take you longer to get there.
If you're used to painting you'll have a hard time moving into digital art at the same speed and precision you're used to for painting. I can finish a painting in 3 days to the point that I'll call it perfect but it would take me weeks to get a digital piece to the same level. I guess it depends how much you work in both mediums too. I definitely need to do a lot more digital work soon.
i've found that doing digital painting aided me on my traditional paintings.
