Kill001, hey bro, welcome to the oppressed group! Feel free to post generic soldiers and millitary stuff!
And yeah, neat helmet and kneepads but uneven and undetailed armor.

I finished this little thingie I made a while back by adding a rock thus making me an ~artiste~ of absolute brilliance. I like drawing nature but i'm colorblind (in some weird red-green-ish-i'm-not-entirely-sure-exactly-HOW-colorblind-I-am way) so I use alot of swatches.
I also have way too much trouble with perspective. Do any of you rascals have any tips or maybe a link to a good book about it?
Just browsing FP and this made me think of the place where I grew up.
Thanks I guess :)
I designed a automatic shotgun. It got two tubes above the barrel to store 4 extra shells, 8 in total. Same design with the UTAS shutgun. This is what I drawn so far. Any opinions and critiques would be much appreciated.
the ejection port seems to double as the tube magazine loader, and while it is possible to chamber a round from the ejection port, it's not possible to load the magazine tube as cycling the action to insert more rounds would eject the previous one.
here's an edit to make it maybe work
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1689248/re/shatgun.png[/t]
now the only problem is that the ejection port is super close to the stock but it's a little bit more anatomically correct
the tube mag and standard mag combo is weird but if you can dream it then we can't guarantee it won't explode in your hands right
Oh well shit I'm late.
to make up for my previous failing, a content

the wife looks spooky
the kerning on 'Go' and 'We' is weird, the distance between letters is too big
it reads like 'Godden' right now, you need to distinguish the 'ol' from the 'd'
If everyone is looking into the distance, what is that man aiming at?

Hey guys, got any tips for someone who's a beginner with observational drawing and art in general? I've already gotten set up with most of the tutorials and websites that have been recommended in this thread, like ctlrpaint, but is there anything I should know that would've helped you out as a beginner?
Draw from real life and don't try to learn how to draw generically. Tutorial teach you what you're drawing, now how to. Don't overwhelm yourself with multiple fields of study, concentrate on specifics, either basic observation, figure drawing, or environments, and don't deviate too much from what you're studying. It's more important to learn how to draw first before learning to paint (digitally or traditionally). Don't worry at all about shading before you understand how to correctly observe something and draw its contours.

Buy any sketchbook, and draw every day. Fill one sketchbook per month minimum and you'll be good.

Is Rick Astley getting hitched?

Seriously though it's very odd/amateur looking and uncanny valley. have you tried flipping it over and having a look at it mirrored?
Looks like you've painstakingly penciled in the outlines but not captured any value on the faces. Hope you didn't charge for that tbh.

Even some sort of opening (hanger?), or banner or airship to the immediate left of that big orange bloke would tie it up nicely.

Golly, haven't been here in forever. I picked up my life and moved it to Atlanta to finish my animation degree. Things have been busy, but it hasn't kept me from doodling. Yes, actual doodles, not the "oh it's just a doodle but in actuality it took me hours to complete" doodle. Here are two, no ref.
Possible NSFW (boobies but artistic boobies).

Don't draw the thing, draw the shape it makes.
When things seem to be going bad there generally going well.
Perspective comes with the addition of each element behind the closest object, keep going and it will look right.
I have reviewed your tips and find them

No I didn't charge! Its for my grandparents, though I can put it into my GCSE portfolio, thanks for the tips on the text and the 'mirror-flip' thing.

Alright so a friend from work asked me to design a tattoo for him (All his tattoos are designed by friends he likes getting them done like that rather than by actual professions :v:)
He wanted a tattoo based on da vinci's anatomical heart, with a tree growing out the top. His original inspiration was this tattoo:

He also linked me this one as reference:

He also mentioned he likes decrepit trees etc then left me to it, and this is where i'm at:
[thumb]http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2014/016/0/b/tattoo_wip_by_kaydenfrei-d72gmem.png[/thumb]
I'm not really sure as is what I think so far or what else to do, depending on opinions here I guess i'll either make some changes based on suggestions or forward this on to him as a first draft

There things I tend to think about a lot when I draw. Id question my tips too if I had any sense.
Edit:
Please draw something only following these rules, I'd love to see the result!
And if it so happens that its amazing, lets all just realize that the talent came from my fantastically well thought out rules and had nothing to do with you...you were simply the canvas for my rules.

The thing that helped me most starting out is doing some blind drawings. Put your pencil to the paper, dont lift it, and try to draw something without looking. Hands are a very good subject to start with.
Helped a lot to get over the "symbol" drawing a lot of people struggle with, as well as fussing over the result every step of the way. It probably won't look like anything when your done, but it it helps you focus on details and such.
making pokemon esque sprites is pretty fun.
