A bit unrelated to the thread, but does anybody here have experience with making graphic novels? Just asking because I browse this thread occasionally and I know it's filled with ridiculous talent, and I've been playing with an idea that might be better suited as a novel of the visual variety.
I've recently been hired to do an illustration or two for a novel. The guy writing it hires 10 or so artist to each do an illustration for each chapter. From what I've learned its a pretty extensive project to get the rights for your novel, to get permission to write it, to package everything and then get in contact with a publisher to publish it and to either find a marketing team or to market it yourself. If you're just writing your own story than it's a bit easier, but unless you get a group of people to crowd fund you there's really no point in writing a graphic novel since your chances of selling will be pretty low without the initial support.
Me as well friend, it seems most people here are looking more to be paid up front than for a partnership of any kind.
wot. did I miss something.
I'm not looking for somebody to do work for me or partner with me or anything. I was just wondering if anybody has any experience with graphic novels or comics so whoever that person may be and I can share ideas, and if successful make me not retarded in that field.

It is an original story by me, so that does take a lot of ass-ache out of the equation, but I have seen these hurdles and it's those things that make me want to turn away from the idea. I've looked down the avenue of a webcomic, and it seems a lot more doable than a traditional graphic novel. I just don't think what I have would be good for that format.
Well the guy who made tales from galactopicon turned it into a webcomic, also Detlef makes zombie waffe, they could help you out with some advice if you're looking for that. I myself am just working on one big thing and two short stories, but I'm not as talented with comics as those two.
I can't think of anyone else at the moment.
If you're looking for inspiration or examples as an artist, check out Dead Winter, mainly because each panel has a lot of love put into it and also Lackadaisy, just for the sheer attention to detail
For writing, I'd recommend checking out Order of the Stick and Unsounded.
Of course they aren't just good examples at that one thing but they're very strong in them so w/e
I know those aren't visual novels but are just good webcomics that also printed books, but I think that's a better method these days anyway

Don't be a butt, even if you did promise payment nobody would go on board with you because of aforementioned reasons, so don't go throwing around accusations just because you messed up and are grumpy
There's also Vman and his dieselpunk thang, if he's still cooking that up.
And maloof had that stickman and full stop comic, I guess..
Lips don't really curl upward like that, even when you're smiling. It also helps if you picture the nose as a trapezoid starting from about the top of the eyes, the slope towards the forehead between the brows should be clearly defined against the nose, otherwise it looks like a weird flat shape. Draw the bottom of the nose as one plane and then carve the nostrils into it. I've just personally never liked this style of drawing noses where you just identify the bottom plane's shadows, it just makes everything look very flat and awkward to me.
its my style xP
No I'm just not good at stylisation. I had the full brow/bridge curve there but I erased it to make it more... I don't know :v:

Unsounded looks very good, going to keep tabs on that, also I don't think Detlef would be very keen on answering a random person's request with how busy he seems to be.

actually some lips do have a slight curve upwards at the edges, but they're a third of the size that you've given it, from what I've seen.

Definitely give it a read, from all of the examples given it's really the best written (Lackadaisy sharing that spot but is a comedy)
I dunno about Detlef, maybe shoot an email, couldn't hurt. Oh and she's a she :v:

I just might. Already reading Unsounded too. I love how the art isn't restricted to the borders of the panels, and even goes off onto the webpage itself sometimes.

I realize you are just excited about your story and would like someone to partner with you, but please realize that not everyone is as excited about your story as you are. Maybe consider that artists have stories they want to draw as well, and when it comes to a toss up between your story and theirs, which do you think will win out?
Drawing takes a lot of time, and because of that, artists need to pick and choose carefully what they should spend their time drawing. If you aren't even paying an artist up front, why should they even consider drawing your story which they are not invested in it whatsoever? On the other hand, if you paid for them to draw it, then I'm sure there will be a few artists willing to do that, because they at least get money out of it, even if they don't really care for your story.
Very few artists will want to partner with a stranger on a story they have no say in. You'd be better off by trying to make some artist friend and then getting them to collaborate with you in a story both of you are interested in.

Make a webcomic divided the same way you would do a comic and then if it catches on sell it as a book. Obviously vector illustrators should be used to allow re-sizing.

I do understand that artists have the premium talent here, that's why I was looking to drum up interest and then collaborate over a non-public forum.
I am primarily chafed over the hostile attitude that seems to permeate Facepunch, from the admins down.
I'm not looking for people to jump at the chance to participate in my story, I only planned on gauging interest. If you want money I have none, ask me about it anyway and I'll tell you a neat story.
I've attempted partnering with a few people for webcomics and such. Almost all of them fall through one way or another. I've had a writers just stop communicating, a concept artist never came through on work then everything else just died from there, and a few collaborations friends planned to do with me just never got past the planning stage. The planning and excitement is the fun bit, getting from there to having somewhere to post, and then actually posting is a breaking point on a lot of comics.
You might have a better time once you have more to show for it? Its hard to invest in to anything when it is in such an early stage.
I've experienced the same in many aspects of life.
I find it's best to only reach out to others for help when you've gotten as far as you can possibly get on your own. This especially includes trying to do yourself what you would have asked for help with, not only to learn but for perspective.
Once you've gotten some serious momentum going, then you should start looking into who and how to ask for help with projects.
This not only saves a lot of trouble, but it makes you look like less of an egghead when you give up on that project you've been telling all of your friends about for the past few months.

He really doesn't look like he's in pain here, its more like an intense euphoria.
Also, the angles of his upper body suggests he's been shot in the back, rather than from the front at a low angle.
Concerning blood spatter/wounds, any blood/bits you might see are whatever was in the bullet's path. How much makes it out of the body depends speed and angle of the exit, and what was obstructing the path, which will vary immensely depending on where and how you hit the person, and what you happen to be hitting them with. It's can be rather gruesome but have a look at photos of entry versus exit wounds at varying locations and with various calibers/round types, the damage should give you an idea of what could reasonably be coming off of the body when its hit.
If I had your ability I would paint it as already soaking into the surrounding fabric, also make it look like there is some wound suck-age going on, like the fabric is being pulled into the wound.
The blood wouldn't have had time to leak out and soak into much of anything immediately after the impact, and its likely that the cloth would fold over itself and completely hide the entry wound (unless it was skin-tight). The seepage would happen moments later, but at least not while the to-be spatter is still in flight.

Oh god you'll have a pretty horrid looking comic if it's all in vector

Felt like doing this, it's 1080p too. Feel free to use as a wallpaper if you'd like.
I feel happy doing vector art, but don't feel very capable at doing much else.

You can print it and take a dump on it as far as i'm concerned, as long as you dont make money off it.
I'm going to kick out an all nighter tonight, because reasons
Right now I am restructuring my workflow for comics from the ground up (not into like this new way of doing it, just the most baseline standard level of work ethic), it is gonna help me keep the panel quality consistent

Suckage and snapback would still have occurred by that time... imagine poking part of a rag into jello and pulling it out.
Yeah it isn't really seepage, it's just blood that sprayed a bit outwards, though having just holes isn't really a problem, the problem is more that they were just red dots on his jacket
This is a done picture, but what should I have done differently, for future reference?

I think those fuzzy black outlines on everything detract from it.
The tables, walls, counter, doors, picture frame and such are all drawn by hand, but for inorganic stuff it's better to make sure they're very very straight.
