Playing killing floor and watching sexforfood's stuff resulted in this. I have no original ideas at all :(
So the MS Paint section inspired me to learn how to do some pixel art... and this is my first go. I used a couple of tutorials to help me get started, but I know I need a lot of work. Any tips would be fantastic.
so i tried animation for the first time tonight It turned out nicely for a few hours of work, I think.

I do a thing sometimes where I make a Minecraft map into a sort-of-actual map. It's very fun to do and I wanted to share the latest one I'm doing. Warning: Huge pictures Original Regional Map Political Map (still putting work into this, making cities, drawing roads and trade routes) It's really fun to see the map slowly come together, and then populating it.
nobody posts in the graphic design thread so heres a recreation of the choo choose card [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1482927/choochoosesmall.png[/t] [editline]10th February 2014[/editline] because there have been a couple others online but theyre fucking awful ala: http://i.imgur.com/M84Lc7n.png http://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/i-choo-choo-choose-you4147-thumbnail-4.jpg?cb=1189676749
i can easily remove those. i was trying to imitate old simpsons imperfect line style [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1482927/choochoosesmallreglines.png[/t]
(although if anyone knows how to make the two ends of the line actually cross over rather than leave a gap in illustrator that'd be great because i really just want inconsistent consistency and scratchiness not the gap)
i'm all about the gap [editline]9th February 2014[/editline] right lads?

Harsh shadows will do that
Try to animate the jaw, too.
If I'd have started an hour or two earlier, I might've done that too. I think I should also fix the lips so it looks less like "What the.. Fff-what?"
animated in gimp across 3 hours. this was my third animation

I painted this for my mom's bday, not really proud of it, I really rushed it because I was running out of time and it's my first type of drawing like that. Not trying justify the mistakes though. [t]http://i.imgur.com/PlR2w6V.jpg[/t]
it kinda has a nice soft style to it
maaaaaaaan make a scrake/fleshpound 1v1 that would def. be my desktop background
that's a really gross thing to have as a background
I know I'm probably starting to piss people off but I have another question. Are there any ways in which I can make drawing more fun? I want to enjoy drawing but I just can't right now. I was watching a guy on YouTube go through a Sketchbook and he was laughing about the situations he had recorded, the expressions and styles etc and he was genuinely having fun going back over them and reminiscing of the fun he had in drawing them. I always feel the exact opposite. Anyone have any advice on how I can come to enjoy drawing? [editline]9th February 2014[/editline] Why do I get page-king with the most inappropriate posts, godammit!
set yourself targets, take up little projects and do your best to take inspiration from other artists. that's what i find makes any medium fun to work with. get involved with other artists, collaborate and contribute to something.
You mainly want low saturation in the darkest shadows
Not always true If you've got a very saturated surface that's in it's own shadow (i.e., a somewhat shallow crevice in a high-saturated red rock) then the shadow will be highly saturated A good exercise would be finding photos of a bunch of lighting conditions, setting your eyedropper tool to like 5x5 sample size and then eye droppering in a bunch of the different parts of the image, light and shadow, to see what the saturation is like. Also looking up some explanations of how light works in the context of colour choices and whatnot to give depth to the knowledge you'll get from the exercise [editline]10th February 2014[/editline]
I know I'm probably starting to piss people off but I have another question. [editline]9th February 2014[/editline] Why do I get page-king with the most inappropriate posts, godammit!
This is the problem I've hit and the reason why I haven't done much creative work at all since I left university a couple of months ago; given the choice between playing games, watching movies and making art I'd rather do the things that have an immediate payoff rather than things that require a bunch of work on my part. But when I actually get down to it and start drawing, I'll often enjoy it - or at least when I do what I want to do which is loosely directed fantasy environments or objects. I never have motivation to do studies or anatomy sketches. I guess it's a dedication and motivation thing. I'm hoping that I get the motivation to get back into the swing of things soon.
[img_thumb]http://imgur.com/LnHecRS.png[/img_thumb] Anyone got an opinion on this? I can't tell if it's fucking dreadful or I did something reasonably well. Something feels wrong and I can never tell
Your lines and shapes are great, you took the time to lay them out, but your rendering is way off. The whites of the eyes are black, and you don't really have much variation in the values besides the nose and mouth. Some parts of the face should be brighter, and others should be considerably darker.

But nah mate, that's actually really great!

[editline]9th February 2014[/editline] Why do I get page-king with the most inappropriate posts, godammit!
Surely there was some sort of appeal when you decided drawing was something you wanted to pursue as a hobby. Maybe it was watching Disney movies and deciding you wanted to do something like that. Maybe it was that one time you sat and sketched an entire night with the same album kept on a loop. Perhaps you were happy about the positive comments you kept getting from people watching you draw. When I'm hitting a dry spell and can't find what makes me happy and motivated I try to look back at what got me started and revisit or even recreate those moments. It's also important to get some fresh input. Movies you've never seen, books, museums, cities, parks, etc. And daydream a lot. Preferably with a sketchbook in hand so you can draw out funny ideas or cool concepts. It can be a great source of inspiration when you've got a piece of clean paper and want to draw but don't know what. Good luck!
I just made this quick (20 mins) photomanip i'll probably call "Golem" from a photo I took 4 years ago Thoughts?
here's the final version, just changed it around slightly (also put it the right way up again)
the other one looked better because now you have natural light coming from under the thing which makes absolutely no sense lol.
