well i tried adding something to the sky but it feels way too busy. busier than it already is! and i agree now that you say it that the belterra sign is too saturated, but i just tried making the white a bit darker and it doesn't feel as lively. i'll definitely take that as a lesson for my next pieces, though. [editline]25th April 2013[/editline] i don't know. i went for something really raw and flat on this one and i like the result.
Hey as I said, all in all it looks great. And withe very painting you make, you can learn something. I can't wait to see more from you.
Testing the water with acrylics! [t]http://th06.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2013/115/9/0/milky_way_acrylic_by_lieutenantawesome-d62yzyc.png[/t] It's a fairly small painting, only 10x15cm's so there wasn't much space (no pun intended) for details. But man, this is so much fun!
Does anyone know of a way to get a square brush in Paint Tool Sai? I want to try working with some square brushes but there arn't any by default in Sai (At least not what I'm looking for, just a flat square not with bristling etc)
Any recommendations to get better at rendering? (Digitally) Right now I'm thinking of doing a lot of still life.. Any other suggestions?

antianan could you make a timelapse vid or take progress shots of some drawing you make in the near future? im interested in how you did that last soldier drawing :d

More vector stuff just for MakoSkyDub. Doing this illustrative infographic right now and I have an isometric fetish. It looks a bit cluttered in all, but it's meant to be read at a large view as these things often are. Also, the text is obviously placeholder. Since it's mostly illustration, I thought it might fit better here than in graphic design.
Although the text is a place holder, is it seriously a info-graphic about how recycling is non-beneficial?
Although the text is a place holder, is it seriously a info-graphic about how recycling is non-beneficial?
Ehhh you could say that However, it's more about exposing certain misconceptions, not saying it's bad altogether.
What's it for? Because although there are misconceptions about recycling, saying something as broad as recycling is bad, or sending that overall message, seems very counter productive. Recycling some materials back to very fine and pure forms to be used in manufacturing again can be cost prohibitive but there are often many secondary uses for such materials that doesn't require as much processing and is still a valuable material that shouldn't be disposed of.

And a long title would be bad so I'm not going to get specific with that. However, that subject matter isn't the kind of critique I'm after. The illustration is the main focus here.
i'm currently painting my dad's harley davidson on gouache, i'll give it to him as a gift. he gave me a great idea: do like 10 paintings and go to the harley davidson breakfast which happens on saturdays, and then sell them there!
I think you're a git
omg
Almost forgot to add this
Thanks man! I did something like that already but it still looks a bit iffy
ive often found that if your doing lots of geometric shapes in your piece its often quicker to make a mock up in 3D
ive often found that if your doing lots of geometric shapes in your piece its often quicker to make a mock up in 3D
I used to use Blender/Maya a lot, so I've done that once or twice to get the perspective for paintings. I sort would rather learn how to do it good by hand though before I focus on bare speed and efficiency, just so that I really know what's going on

Coming to this thread really motivates me in the best way. ily guys.
Coming to this thread really motivates me in the best way. ily guys.
You have a cool avatar from a cool game. ily as well person I've never met.
Cool planet stuff
I did a planet drawing too, although it's not anywhere near as good since I've only got 1/2 a year of experience. This was a fun little 6x10in color pencil and pen drawing. [t]http://i.imgur.com/4gbNRmM.jpg[/t]
Also, . Instead of a thousand words!
Sorry for for the passive aggressive rating lol, I've just been trying to get myself to improve on my own artwork before I get back into seriously critiquing other people's work. You're all improving in some ways, some more than others. Though I have noticed a few people are stuck in certain styles/concepts and need to push themselves out of their comfort zones to really improve their grasp on what they can do with their art. I'll get back to critiquing work here, but probably not as much as i used to, for now I'm just trying to step up my own game.
snip, i'll take a picture of the painting when it's daytime.
Does anyone here have experience with Corel Painter? I used it a bit before ages ago and just finally got it again , just wondering if anyone else would have any tips on using it and such
I use painter pretty much exclusively, what would you like to know?
[editline]25th April 2013[/editline] ~streets of sao paulo~
That dodge handwritten sign ruins this for me, no joke :v: ed- I love the subject matter though please do more
Any recommendations to get better at rendering?
omg Thanks man!
Looks like you've been watching too much FMA mate :v: whew long post
what's FMA?
I use painter pretty much exclusively, what would you like to know?
Just some general tips I guess to start. I found the program a bit hard to figure out when I first used it because the different brushes seem to actual interact, and you can't use some brushes with others. They don't seem to be just textured things you can throw together however you like in other programs :v:
Sorry for for the passive aggressive rating lol, I've just been trying to get myself to improve on my own artwork before I get back into seriously critiquing other people's work.
Actually I didn't mean that your rating insult me or something, I completely agree with you. Also, critiquing is quite a hard work and takes time and effort, so it's ok to just throw in some ratings instead of writing walls of texts to express your attitude about things imo.
what's FMA?
Ugh I knew that joke would either be hilarious or a complete miss
Just some general tips I guess to start. They don't seem to be just textured things you can throw together however you like in other programs :v:
Yeah Painter has a pretty steep learning curve. A lot of weird little foibles or just bugs you have to navigate around. I'll try to explain a little bit relating to what you said :v: Brushes in the same category generally blend with each other the best, provided that category is actually paint, i.e oils, impasto etc. The pens and pencils for example are just mark making brushes in the sense that graphite or ink won't move on your surface like paints will. So it's like real life. You just layer marks or strokes. The paint will move and blend depending on which category and brush you use, as opposed to some of the colour underneath affecting the brushstroke you put on top of it via opacity. So if you paint a red stroke and then paint a green stroke across it, it'll simulate the brush pushing the pigment across the surface and smearing some of the red along with the green on your brush and blend them together (and how much each of these things occur can be controlled). It's not perfectly like real paints obviously but that's what Corel are trying to sell. There are a couple of insular categories that you can't mix with brushes from other media; real watercolour and liquid ink are the ones I can think of from the top of my head, and maybe digital watercolour as well I'm not sure. You can still paint over them on another layer, you just can't go onto the same layer and start mixing up the paint with foreign media because those layers have special running and drying mechanics. You could bypass that if you saved as a flattened image like a png and then continued, but if you wanted to use more watercolour et al you'd have to use them on a new layer. You could probably just collapse one of the special layers with another empty layer and render that watercolour information workable with other brushes too (but don't hold me to that I'm not 100% certain it would work). I don't really recommend working in watercolour on Painter, imo it's even harder than doing it traditionally. They took a pretty good stab at replicating it but it still feels awkward and limited to me. Hope that helped, lemme know if you have other specific questions
Hope that helped, lemme know if you have other specific questions
Thanks! I'm sure I will after I've played with it a bit, time to go do some test circles :v:
