Long time without posting, slow progress on the mobile game this last couple of months (college + job = not much free time) but it's still moving along, here's a new character:

We are still figuring out exactly where we are heading in terms of gameplay, although it's a classic endless shooter/runner we want to try to make it interesting and new so we have been playing with some stuff lately such as 1st person view and other stuff like that :v:

i made some sprites for a game that i wanted to make
it's about exploring ruins
i just need to learn how to use game maker now

I really got to get motivated to draw stuff though.

Her hair suggest a pretty odd skull shape. And I think you should squint your eyes or zoom out really far and compare what you're suggesting her nose is doing by the tip with the area between her eyes. She could have a really flat nose but imo there's still something off about it - Maybe it's the shapes suggested by your highlights and shadows rather than the placement of her features. A bit more chin wouldn't hurt either!
Skull shape was fine, I just did the hair very lazily :v:
it was a conscious decision to flatten out her nose going up to her brow, may have been the wrong one though.
Was just a quick thing I sat down and did this morning anyway, I'll just do another tomorrow instead of fixing that one

for a sketch, or for any painting really, you're doing what i used to do (who am i kidding, i still do it) which is worry way too much about making it smooth way too early on in the process
use a brush at 100% opacity or, if it makes you a bit more comfortable, give it pressure sensitivity for opacity but have the minimum at 50% - this will force you to lay down your values quickly and strongly and stop you worrying about having everything really smooth which just isn't necessary until you're at the very final stages of finishing off a painting (and only if that's the style you want to go for anyway)
in terms of what's there, you need to be thinking about pushing the light end of the spectrum more fully. this is very dark and grey

3 pixel brush the shit out of the hair.
Update of the day. Off to bed again.
firstly, please dont post this twice a day for the next 14 days you end up working on it because i'll probably kill myself. that is in no way a detriment to your skill i just can't hack seeing this over and over and over again
secondly, you're still doing what kind of everyone has advised you not to do for like, the last 2 years maybe. you really need to start pushing pieces way further when you're blocking your work in. i can see you've started to do it much better than you used to but at this stage i think your colours and forms should pretty much be at 100% completion, just without texture, detail, and smoothness
right now, even though you've probably put a couple of hours or more into this already knowing the way you work, it's still really under-contrasted, there's no environment or mood in the colour, and yet it's looking really smooth (almost muddy, especially the background) which says to me you're still using really transparent brushes and building things up way too smoothly
like i have no idea why you're doing the hair with a 3px brush when your colours don't look finished. surely you're going to have to do it all again? maybe this is why a lot of your pieces have a lot of elements that look like their pasted into the painting
i think you'd probably benefit from doing a portrait or figure study without any line work and with a 30 minute time limit or less
Well, I don't have time to take classes, so I'm just trying to learn myself.
The only way for me to get any critique is from people online.
None of my friend is into art...
but I will cut down the frequency of posting, even though I only post once a day, not twice.

i don't understand what relevancy this is. the vast majority of this thread is in exactly that same situation. i just gave you my critique and it essentially amounts to: "you should be working in a way where it isn't necessary to post a piece of work once a day to get your 3px hair critiqued"

I'm not saying anything is wrong with your critique, that IS the reason why I am posting here,
but anyways.
I don't see the problem with posting it so often. It's much better to catch mistakes early.
The only thing that concerns me is that it has taken so long between stages but then I don't know how many hours you have actual put in verses days and speed shouldn't really be a main goal anyway. And I just can't stand working on something for more than a day so I will just literally sit down and work until something is done entirely. However many hours that may take.

You’ve got a point, but it's not even about making it smooth or not. I personally just use a soft brush with widely varying opacity to slap on values, and it works perfectly fine to make piece look smooth from the very beginning. The funny thing is that he uses so much strokes to make it smooth, while in fact you literally need a couple or two of them to do this. Using bigger brushes could help to fix this, because now these tons of strokes just make it look dirty.
And yeah, perspective on his vest is fucked up.

The hair looked much better before you 3px brushed it
maya i think you're too attached to each of ur pieces i think you need to do a bunch more of effectively throwaway ones which you can do in 10-30-90 min and get it all critiqued at once rather than try and be nudged by incremental critique to the final one like an ocean liner directed by brownian motion
for some reason facepunch likes to really fuck up when I edit anything I post that has a quote box in it, and everything disappears, so the original thing I wrote here is now gone.

You need to fix that. Otherwise, pretty good. Dialogue reads a bit... cluttered? I don't quite know how to describe it so I won't try.
“Son of a bitch!” Bullock screamed as he was thrown from the explosion. The shockwave hit him with tremendous force, sending him crashing through a wooden ramshackle wall into a ruined coffee shop.
“Bull's down!” Lennet yelled, “We got 'ta get to him, Harker!”
Harker turned from his massive flechette spitting machine-gun as it billowed thick gray smoke from a recent volley. “He'll be fine! We need to hold the rear until reinforcements arrive.”
“Fine!? He just got hit with a rocket, man!” Lennet squeaked over the sound of gunfire. “Are his boots off!?” Harker responded with a laugh. Lennet gave a pause to the question, confused. “What?”
“His boots! Do you see them?”
“N-no!?”
“Then he's fine. It's only serious if your shoes go flying off”
Harker turned back to his enemies, spooled his gun, and opened up another torrent of fire into a row of ruined houses, sending plumes of debris flying while enemy soldiers ran and dove for any cover they could find. Lennet looked back to where Bullock had gone flying. “Shit, I hope he's okay.” He wanted to go back, but Harker was right, they needed to hold off until help could arrive. The best he could do now was to keep firing.
I try to resist giving crit on writing because it's just too in-depth a thing to jump into when you're busy, I usually end up writing a longer piece of crit than the actual piece of writing that I'm looking at. I suppose I'm telling you this just so you know that there's lots wrong with what you've got there, I just don't have the time to deconstruct it all because if I dip a toe in I'll just drown :v:
So bearing that in mind the one piece of advice I will give you is to open any book, and just GLANCE at how it's formatted. I find it really bizarre how when people randomly decide they'll try their hand at writing something, they don't even pay attention to how their sentences should be arranged. It's like if you decided to draw something for the first time, and did half of it on the paper and half of it on the table
doodling around w/ a mechanical pencil that I found:

could you elaborate on just the formatting bit more? I will say in defense that facepunch ruins any type of actual format when text is pasted. unless you're talking about something more related to the writing itself, which is what I'm interested in.
Maybe I was mistaken then, you can use [ code ] [ /code ] to maintain formatting.
Titstitstits tits tits tits thousands upon thousands of tits. Literally just mountains of tits. Tit canyons and tit fjords filled with the finest tits. “How many tits can possibly fit in there?” Tits said, surprised and bewildered at the sheer amount of tits.
“You'd be surprised.” Titless said, “It's full of tits”

I've been trying out Sai and wow this stabiliser is really working wonders for me
Here's a thing I did under a request from my friend
the shading looks really weird and the line weight on the left side is a bit too thick(already fixed) but I want to know what you guys think about it
Decided to delete all the audio in a Death Note scene except for the music and try and mix the entire thing from nothing.

Unlike the official mix, mine properly conveys the sheer loudness of Light's EXTREME WRITING.

The first thing I noticed is the comically overstated music. See if you can find something a bit more low key. It's not as bad towards the end but it's really just making me chuckle. The pencil sound is also a bit irritating, although not unrealistic.
I'm kinda tired of using my mousepad to paint stuff, so I was thinking about getting a tablet. I thought I'd ask y'all because a lot of you guys talk about your tablets, so... What kind would you guys recommend..? I want an interactive one, but can't seem to find any less than $2,000+ bucks.
Sure, I can start saving, but I was wondering if there are any obscure cheaper brands that work just as well? Thanks in advance.
