New page ugh, I haven't done much interesting stuff on the digital side of things lately

Your figure isnt defined enough to separate it from the background. I think there needs to be a gradient change from the foreground to back ground. Also the straight edge on the left of the figure (stomach) is flattening the image too. The face is nice, but I think the skull structure is off, from this perspective wouldnt the other eyebrow be lower down?
Your none organic objects are also missing definition, such as the clothes and how they are interacting with the figure.
Things like the flask and belt buckle are flattening the image as well. The flask (a cylindrical object) is sitting in a pocket (made of fabric) and not making any definition/indentation/extrusion to the material. This is the same for how the belts are sitting on the clothes.
I hope this was coherent, I had a night of heavy drinking and its catching up with me. X_X

A gradient? Not sure what you mean

Possibly

I left everything outside of the focal points unrendered, that was intentional. Not saying that it makes for a strong image in this case but I wanted to try that approach so there it is. I disagree with the definition thing, the leather around the flask is clearly extruded etc.

Cheers for the feedback!
A gradient? Not sure what you mean
A gradual tone change I think is what he means.
So that the background is more light tinted from the atmosphere affecting things far away, separating the background from the foreground.
I think some minor blur or less defined brush strokes simulating blur would help a lot as well.
By the way, the cane is really hidden, first and foremost because it is much darker than the darkest shadow found elsewhere in the painting. The values on the cane is completely different from everything else in the painting.

Oh, really? Read it for the class.

In order to try and combat my inability to draw machines and other man-made objects, I've attempted to make some. Here's a crappy, old, rusty bike with wide tires for desert travel and plenty of carrying space for a traveler.
Anyway, I drew the Captain.

Or Xavier, since he's wearing a suit.
Really getting annoyed at how frustrating trying to use this tablet for art is.. I finally have a working stylus, but now I can't get any program at all to work, except for GIMP (which is basically a huge messy clutter that is a pain to use).
It's just one thing after another. Kind of a letdown.
Does anyone here know how to paint on a Latitude 10? I've tried PS, SAI, Sketchbook, and Paint.net, and I can only open them up, but none of them let me paint at all (as in I can select tools, but none of them do anything).
Sorry if my talking about this so much annoys any of you guys D:
S'been a while since I've come here, sheeit. Guess it's time to get over that fear of criticism, yeah?

The Monty Python Paladen had his center of gravity changed when his limbs came off. He should lean to reflect that.

I'm not sure the tools issue would be related to the tablet, can you use the tools if you unplug to tablet and just try with a mouse?
I drew the Winter Soldier from Captain America

No, it's a touch tablet.
No, it's a touch tablet.
Ohhh, well I have no clue then. I have no experience with doing art on those tablets. Are you sure you got the touch version of photoshop, thats the only thing I can think of?

I dig your capacity to polish and render your work, but if you're looking for another path to look in I'd suggest you try your hands on, well, I'm not really sure how to say it but it's like combining the rendering effort with the narrative of your content. In laymans terms I guess it would mean making your work be more 'dramatic' with how you execute your art.
So this isn't my work, but I think they're good examples of what I'm talking about. You can tell the shadows the artists painted flows throughout the entire canvas, connecting it together, and working towards the benefit of the content's narrative. High contrast of darkness and fire adds to the agency of the first piece, and the shadows of the second piece make it look very theatrical and interpretive.

With your work I feel like your rendering style only works for the benefit of defining what your 3D shapes are, probably due to your reliance on cylindrical shading (shadows on the side, light in the center). So if you're looking to dip your toes into something different, try working with more dramatic/interesting lighting setup and tones; celebrate the fact that your painting is a painting and look at how different elements flow between each other in the composition.

Your art makes me feel nauseous and disgusted, and that is a very good thing.
