I've noticed some sick improvements from Chesty and Menter as well as Xephio
other too probably but my memory is sux
Quite honestly I would say the opposite, Xephio's work stayed at the same level for like a whole year or two to my recollection :v:
Xephio was posting stuff before I even started to draw I think
Not that it matters he's getting somewhere now
He had two long periods of idling (the first one I remember frustrated a lot of us), but when he actually goes and learns he gets the hang of it quickly.

Overlooked this before, great stuff though! Takes me back to my childhood. Character design reminds me a lot of some enemies out of this old SNES rpg called 7th Saga that I was deathly scared of at times:

Really nice costume design and well-executed!

menter is an absolute machine and it upsets me. i remember teaching that dickhead like the most basic shit, back when i was painting album art for his metal band, and then he came back like a month later like "yo i painted this:" and it was a million times better than anything i'd ever done :v:
you guys are so friendly i just want to have sex with you all <3

Oh god, yeah. Media College is really good in sucking the spirit and motivation out of students. Maybe if they had a game art teacher who was actually an artist from the game industry.

It's still cool that he didn't lost a passion to draw while passing through these years. It's only been two years or so since I started to draw, and now i feel like i'm totally loosing interest to this stuff, and it really saddens me.
I started doing 20 minutes speed paints, this is the first ever set of 3

one per 20 minutes, one layer allowed only, two minute break between each
I've never done speedpainting before, but it doesn't look like an impressive start.

Maybe it's because you've kinda ridden your talent as far as it'll go without dedicating yourself more to art which you probably don't have time for, so you're improving far more slowly/plateauing which would be a lot more noticeable than with most people because your range of subject matter is so narrow
Just guessing though

Honestly I don't care much about progress anymore, it's all about getting peasure from drawing. It's just getting boring. It's not a problem though, since i'm still interested in other people's art,in this thread, in giving critiques maybe, which i believe could help people sometimes.

I find if I have to give someone a present I always seem to resort to doing a crummy painting in one sitting the night before
It's great actually I don't have to spend a penny
Also buying people books that I want and then swiftly borrowing them forever, that's a good'un

this piece focuses on the car, not the ship. it's supposed to be a picture taken by someone in the future where it's normal to see something that grand in the skyline.
this also gives me a really cool idea for a game. you know how games with ambiguity are the most immersive? see half-life 2 or left 4 dead. they're very ambiguous with their universe. half-life 2 doesn't try to explain every single detail of its lore to you, and that's what makes the atmosphere & universe so involving.
what if there was a game that took place in the year 2080 or whatever, yet that had absolutely nothing to do with the plot? of course you'd use new technology and stuff but the plot wouldn't focus on specifically ~future stuff related to the game universe~ (deus ex), it would focus on a pulp-fiction like plot that happens to take place in the year 2080.
Instant district 9 vibes

Did you colour pick that? The colours are photo perfect.
I'd like to add to my list of painting malfunctions that I am brush illiterate. I have no idea when I should be using different brush types, when I should use opacity and flow or not. All I ever did was use the standard round on either 100% hardness, opacity and flow, or 0% hardness, 60% opacity, and 40% flow.
I'm pretty sure I'm missing something. (Don't worry I'm doing a reference pic next)
Did you colour pick that? The colours are photo perfect.
no. if you wanna do some color studies based on photos here's a cool technique:
get like 4-6 different pictures with very similar lighting. then try and reproduce them as study thumbnails, but here's the catch: use a single color palette. that way you'll get used to experimenting & deciding which approximate colors you get on that certain lighting circumstance.

opacity should always be 100%.
Thanks! I'll definitely give this a read tonight.

nothing really special but it looks kinda nice
Whatever you did with the white bit in the middle is not the best
I haven't done too much, but have some random character doodles I pumped out recently. Nothing special, but eh. Might as well.

and after posting that i realize the poses look a little samey. whoops
Whatever you did with the white bit in the middle is not the best
why not?
trying to follow a tutorial on using different colors to bring life to a face painting
it just looks like my picture has an awful camouflage over his face :l
is blending a no-no?
-snip-
because it doesnt go with the rest of the composition at all
super saturated hard edged spirals of color and then a white blob in the middle. theres nothing unifying them and its jarring

opacity should always be 100%.
Eh, opacity should be a subjective decision. For beginners, keep it at 100. But as long as you understand how colour works and how Photoshop's opacity can give you dull colours when you might want vibrant colours, you should be fine using it.
The actual computational processes used to calculate resultant colour when you have one colour over the top of the other when you're 'mixing' via hand-set opacity vs pen-pressure opacity are the same.
when people say "100% opacity only!" do they mean literally nothing but 100% opacity, as in not even using pen pressure, or do they mean 100% opacity + pen pressure opacity??
because i tend to use pen pressure for opacity but i set the minimum opacity to 50%

pen pressure is obv okay. but anything lower than 100% opacity is one of the main reasons people (mostly beginners) get muddy values.
