But nobody said they were learning the figure that way, they were just talking about life drawing classes [editline]22nd April 2014[/editline] ninja edit My reply still works fine though :v:
My starting point was gestures. Then I evolved from there. Structure is important, but so is flow. Brigdemans was my start point.
your values are good but you need to look at colour more. although your tones in general could do with some more colour contrast for mood, you especially need to look at skin-tone colour in terms of blood-flow around the face [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/maybe7.jpg[/t] something a bit like this maybe? forgive me if it's totally off i'm trying to calibrate my monitors atm [editline]16th April 2014[/editline] the general rule is some orange/yellow tones across the forehead area, red across the middle, and bluer at the bottom, but you'll want to tone this down a lot - especially the blue - for women and children. and then of course depending on the weather and ethnicity and overall look you're going for, the cheeks and nose specifically should be redder. ears are redder and when there's light shining from behind you have to take into account the luminescence of some really harsh subsurface-scattering
I'M SO SORRY I ONLY SAW THIS NOW but ahh thank you i'll keep that in mind!! actually i did that in monochrome at first because i wanted to practice my values but then i guess that made me screw up a bit on the color :V and for today did really quick and kinda terrible studies of bruce boxleitner's face :V i really don't like how the values turned out on the second one aghh i must practice more
what's a good photo reference site for still lifes/various studies? I need to focus on 3D shapes more and it seems like still lifes are the most effective at that.

Photos flatten objects it's much better to just do drawings from life. Honestly you can draw anything just take a corner of your room and draw the objects in it.
what's a good photo reference site for still lifes
Still life
Stilleben n00bz Also maybe start with simpler shapes like a single vase or a fruit and such and then move on to furniture and later full sets where you must relate on object's distance to another, etc.
A quick little doodle to get some kind of rhythm going. I know some of the forms are completely wrong, the mouth is fuck and there's perspective where there shouldn't be, but drawing again. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1689248/works/hapnot.png[/t] I have this problem whilst drawing digitally in which I am unable to visually focus on the screen every now and then, everything blurs and I have to fix my eyes. I am asking if this is normal and good ways to prevent if any?
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/eG4Z6ER.jpg[/thumb] Drawing props for school
How did they get the head on? Both ends of the haft are wider than the eye of the head.
could have been hammered closed afterwards, even if that's not the strongest construction
Fuck, did not notice, gotta fix that
First real attempt at pastelles. I'd like to know if I can improve my technique with them! (well, I know I can but I don't know how, persay...)
Looks quite good. Perspective between water surface, top and bottom of cup is a bit off at a glance, and penciling in the outline of the shadow looks a bit harsh. Was this from life/photo reference?
Is it fine if we share other people's work while giving credit?
Is it fine if we share other people's work while giving credit?
Let's not turn this into, "Cool art I found on the internet."
Let's not turn this into, "Cool art I found on the internet."
So I'm guessing that means no.
There's the Auxiliary Pics thread in Fast Threads if you really wanted to share it.
I think once in a blue moon it would be okay, and I know it's not uncommon for other people's art to be posted occasionally to make a point of discussion or as an example, but the thread is really about IFAP art so I don't think you should post it just for the sake of it. Maybe give er' a [t] or a hotlink just since it's already been discussed to the point that I'm curious.
Rule 1
Rule 1
we dont talk about creative work that doens't deserve a thread
Looks quite good. Perspective between water surface, top and bottom of cup is a bit off at a glance, and penciling in the outline of the shadow looks a bit harsh. Was this from life/photo reference?
It was just sitting on my desk, like all plastic cups filled with water do, mocking me with its difficulty-to-be-drawn-via-pencil. BUT NOT TODAY!, I cried, pulling out my white pastel pencil and flourishing it with a smirk. The plastic cup shrank back in fear - yes, today, its image would finally be accurately caught on paper. ... from life.
but the thread is really about IFAP art so.
This is totally silly, but this "IFAP art" sounds rather funny for me.
Oh sorry, IFAP is an acronym for international facepunch airsoft players something or other lol. I used it out of habit since I post there all the time. We could still be international Facepunch art people though.
I veto that acronym
I approve of that acronym
أنا أوافق على هذا الإختصار
I veto that acronym
ifa perhapse?
