Looks very nice! I like the idea of a SC2 'forest marine'. Though I can't help but think the proportions are really off. It looks almost like he has no shoulders, and his torso is smaller than his waist and crotch. Idk if that's meant to be a marine, or a new special suit you came up with, but if it is a marine, their torsos are HUGE.
Well, starcraft marines have their anatomy completely fucked up (or should I say exaggerated?), and in this picture I tried to make something between their proportions and normal proportions. Sorry for the rough sketch, that's what I mean:
Wow, he dares travelling into the jungle alone? @antianan did you use some kind of brush for the flora?
@antianan did you use some kind of brush for the flora?
Yeah, sure. I downloaded shittones of custom brushes recently, it's pretty fun how much time they can help you save.

So, these are the sculptures I did over the year for my, well, Sculpture class. I wanted to share! There's only 4 projects all year, 2 per semester, 50% of your mark each. Quite intense, but I've come to love it. I'm going to link them rather than post the images because of the size of the images and I want to be respectful/not spammy with one post, but it can always be changed for later or something. Semester 1, Project 1: Head Studies (with a lame eye) First time ever doing sculpture or really working with clay. I didn't have a partner for the project because of the odd number of people in the class, which ended me up with a bust I could work with (and didn't breath or blink!). Turned out better than I expected, but unfortunately the bust had its ears ripped off, so I kind of head to make something work the best I could, but it was a fun way to start off the year. Semester 1, Project 2: Anatomic Study Pretty self explanatory, really. No more ears, but I learned a new nemesis... teeth. Semester 2, Project 1: Animal Study The amount of people that dropped out of this class was staggering, honestly, as well as the amount that didn't show up at this point. We had to choose an animal of importance to us, so I chose a rabbit. Messed up on some stuff, and it was really difficult to work from photos instead of things I could hold and feel. Ended up giving the bunny some... demonic ridges along his head or something. Me and the teacher laughed about it. Made it with the intention of giving it to my mother for her garden, or a table. Semester 2, Project 2: Stag Skull/Whatever the hell we wanted to do. By this point people didn't show up at all, handed in blobs of... things and failed, basically. Nobody seemed to take it seriously other than me and a few others, which may be why my teacher likes me so much now. Stag skull with broken horns that I spent about... 20-22 hours on in total. Went and worked through every class, every Open Studio I could, and sat in on some of my teacher's other classes with her permission. She said it was the best thing I'd done all year, was terribly proud of me, and it was presented in the college's Open House for all to see. This is fun!

You really need to make a graphic novel.
It's pretty confusing to be honest. The first one has something plummeting, then the second one seems to be a lead-in to an investigation of said object, but then the drone thingy just goes over to the pipes in the distance (I'm assuming that those weren't what fell from the sky, because if so it's REALLY not obvious :v:) From the second to the third it looks like the first character might be sending a message to the second? The drone has a humanoid on its rear display in #2 but it's ambiguous as to whether that's a message (and what that would mean) or if that's what it's programmed to seek. If that thing has been programmed to seek humanoid life forms, then I would expect one or the other of the characters to be a survivor from the crash; checking for local inhabitants or something. But there's nothing whatever to indicate either of them aren't local. And if they're just sending a message, then why is there a first image at all? It doesn't seem to link to the rest at all. We don't know what's crashed, we don't know where in the daytime landscape it is (it might be one or more of the smoke sources we see in the bg but who knows?) or who's who or what anyone is doing for sure. It's unclear what the thing is hanging in the tube mouth in #3 as well, I thought that was the drone from #2 at first glance. Now it's just confusing, I'm guessing it belongs to the second character but what's it for? It seems to be a bit weird looking and weirdly placed to either be a light source for nighttime or a beacon. So yes, the narrative seems to be so implied or just loosely connected that the dots don't connect at all. Any number of things could be going on.
Awesome, thanks man! The pipes (the ass-end of a ship) were what fell from the sky, so I guess I should include a long, nearly side-on shot to express this. I'm starting to figure out that maybe trying to cram a story into a single image isn't always the best way to go; sometimes it might be good to do a series of images to flesh out an aspect of a story. The people were supposed to be a salvage group from on board the ship, looking for parts and trying to piece her back together. My initial idea was to have the drone-thing being a 'check-in' robot that reports back to the ship commander inside the ship (access via the now-lukewarm engines), but I admit I didn't problem-solve the storytelling nearly enough
The salvagers are going into the ship via the exhaust? It seems highly improbable that they could even access the ship interior through there, plus it'd be dangerous and scary :v: Doesn't the ship have a normal point of entry? Or maintenance hatches or something sensible But yeah I didn't clock the pipes as being part of what fell, they just seems to be part of a big junk-punk landscape setting. They don't look damaged really, more just derelict, and there was no indication of their function or that there was more to the structure. Anyway I totally support narrative pieces done across a few panels, I think the concept is great. [editline]2nd May 2013[/editline] Also great strokes juniez as per usual
Haha, yeah the exhaust-entry thing was a product of an image I had in my head of a blue-glowey-engine ship landing on the outstretched lower-lip of a circular entry point, and I figured that the engine could be this point, at least in an emergency. This spawned another idea of using the heat from the engine to create a warm habitation area within the ship or some such. I guess I'd have to rationalise that the front end of the ship was buried in sand (which would make for a pretty cinematic image too now I think about it) and perhaps they had to exit the ship through maintenance areas near the engines. Definitely need to work on clarity of expression of ideas, but it's all good practice! Thanks Mako After talking with lecturers, I'm going to adapt an existing text via concept art. I'm thinking either His Dark Materials (Northern Lights, Subtle Knife, Amber Spyglass) or Pratchett's Discworld at the moment. I believe I've seen the vagina face before actually
Old dog (How Time Slips Away) Creaking and groaning, sighing and moaning, she follows slowly alongside, As we walk down the hall, she keeps pace, limping with her side to the wall. "Time to go outside" lets her know that she really is moving slow. She's going slow and surely knows that it is nearing her time to go. My old dog lays in the dust, baking in the sun. Snapping at bugs (an ineffective hunt) just to make them run. I remember the days, the games we'd play while running alongside the setting sun. But that was before time stripped her bare, and left her in pain and undone. She lays there with her chest in a slow rise, on her back looking up at what she sees as gray skies.
Do Northern Lights.. The Subtle Knife was ok but The Amber Spyglass was dreadful iirc
Ah I liked them all, but my imagination let me down with the last one and all my images of the environments were super bland (whether that's a failing on the part of Pullman or me I'm not sure) so I was going to re-imagine it. But I think I've settled on doing Discworld in sci fi

The design of some of those later creatures was a bit blegh And the way that battlefield/Lord Dad's castle was described just felt bland as hell I'd like to reimagine it through concept art some time just to get those concepts to do justice to the brilliant plot
