[t]http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2014/114/7/a/head_planes_by_kaydenfrei-d7fstn4.png[/t] This whole planes thing isn't really clicking for me too well for the whole face. Open to advice. I think I'm gonna go try some more from photo work and overlay it in when i start shading (Seems quite useful for that at least)
The point of learning the major planes is to understand the shape of the face and its features better. It's less about learning how to draw a face and more about learning what you're drawing. Learning the planes definitely helped me a lot. This is what I started with
If you don't want people to provide feedback, why even bother posting it here?
sorry man, having a really shitty day with a difficult parental unit that wont go to hospital for a serious issue. ex service men are stubborn as fuck :/

Little bit Juniez there. Dunno about the nose personally but otherwise that style is wonderful
Yeah. Whilst the nose has character, it looks kinda' out of place compared to the rest of her.
Yeah. Whilst the nose has character, it looks kinda' out of place compared to the rest of her.
its the headscarf on the right (her left) thats throwing it off, bring it in slightly and it should sort itself.
Wha? [editline]25th April 2014[/editline] How will adjusting the headscarf make the nose not look like a piece of kitkat
The forms are great; my main issue with the piece is the low contrast dark values - feels underexposed
Wha? [editline]25th April 2014[/editline] How will adjusting the headscarf make the nose not look like a piece of kitkat
oh i thought we were talking about the facial positioning, it doesn't look that bad for the style.
woa ty for cc yall.
The forms are great; my main issue with the piece is the low contrast dark values - feels underexposed
feels like a cloudy day. i like it
Eh, I don't mind the nose. It's cute. Reminds me of Wind Waker for some reason.
Little bit Juniez there. Dunno about the nose personally but otherwise that style is wonderful
i can't believe i'm still relevant
Your style is very memorable/recognisable, and he's obviously taken heavy influence from you since you've been around the same art forum for ages [editline]26th April 2014[/editline] Also his favourites list on DA is full of your stuff

A+++ And oh ok, my bad sorry Anax :v: I think I thought that because your style is more focused Jun having said that, Anax's last piece is gorgeously realised. I guess you two should just share an account and pretend to be the same prolific artist
how dare u compare me 2 that clown i am so irked right now
I'm finished with this one, just added the reflection and some minor tweaks.
Drawing is so hard:( [t]http://i.imgur.com/veRyaC4.jpg[/t] clicky for HD

I used photographs of different nighttime cities to get those lit up windows, it was a pain to match them with the perspective but it worked out although not perfectly. Would have done it differently if not for the time constraints.
The perspective and reflections are all fucked up I feel I should point out Also is that a moon in the corner? it seems awfully nearby surely that's dangerous :v:
The perspective and reflections are all fucked up I feel I should point out Also is that a moon in the corner? it seems awfully nearby surely that's dangerous :v:
Maybe it's one of those smancy fancy satellite cities
The perspective and reflections are all fucked up I feel I should point out Also is that a moon in the corner? it seems awfully nearby surely that's dangerous :v:
Yeah I know, was going for a general feel though. Oh the planet on the background is actually Earth. So it's more like a satellite city. Can you enlighten me on how to do the reflections correctly?
Fuck I'm horrible at painting. Well at least I learned to use transparencies for painting stuff now
Not sure if they would like a bad photograph of some photographs over there
Someones been posting pictures from an old Gameboy. I'm sure this guys photo would be accepted.
Yeah I know, was going for a general feel though. Oh the planet on the background is actually Earth. So it's more like a satellite city. Can you enlighten me on how to do the reflections correctly?
Well, have a look at this, I'll try to simplify it all as much as possible for my own sake :v: The green lines represent the extended horizontal plane of that platform on which you have the reflections. I've done this to help you visually make the distinction in distance that I'm gonna talk about next. The building I've outlined in blue and its reflection make for the best or easiest to understand example of what's wrong here, but it applies to the others as well. So, physically what you are trying to depict here should look orthographically something like this (except the platform would be much smaller and much further away but no matter): The light radiating from a single window in the skyscraper comes down onto the platform across a huge gulf of open space and bounces back up into our "camera". Now, if the window/light source drops below the GREEN line, that light source will no longer be capable of casting a reflection on the top surface of the platform for us to see. Refer back to the picture itself - notice I've put a red mark arbitrarily along a green line stretching toward the buildings. How far away from the platform do you suppose that is? A hundred metres or more? It's a good way away but it's only a fraction of the distance from the platform to the buildings, right? Now consider how much higher up that red mark is spatially above the building I outlined in blue. Imagine continuing the green line until it was flush with the building. It's waay up above the rooftop. So is the platform, being on the same plane. We're looking down onto the platform, and way off in the distance shrouded in atmospheric perspective is this building, of which we can SEE the rooftop. If you put the platform next to the building, the platform would be a few thousand metres higher than its roof. So basically the only way those buildings could cast those reflections is if they were literally a cardboard cutout positioned like this:
You're so right, I didn't even think about most of the stuff you said, so basically the door is the only reflection that is somewhat possible :v: Thanks for the help and the time you put into this! I'll remember this for the next time I want reflections. [IMG]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/IMG]
