They all have very, very, very similar facial structures, to the point where I think it's detrimental. Noses, mouths, eyes, cheekbones, chins, they can all vary a ton in shape and size.

it's mad sick, yo, but i'm not really sure what i'm looking at
is it a head and shoulders under some spacey type armor?
or is it like a big ass cryo chamber he's asleep in?
I personally had no trouble just assuming it was head and shoulders wearing a lot of gear, but it did occur to me that it all looks quite thick and cumbersome, like, how much of that is the pilot harnessed in and how much is the actual person?
Now that you mention it I can totally see a cryo pod.
What if that is the entire spaceship, docked inside a space cruiser, which is travelling through space?

If I could draw, this is the kind of stuff I would make.
Brilliant piece!
Well if it helps you stay the course where you would otherwise give up because it's no fun. But if that isn't the case then you're better off staying on task
Although I do think you should take breaks to make up your own figures, so you can see prevalent mistakes and stuff. Full character designs.. idk since I haven't done too much of that, maybe it would be beneficial too. just doesn't really seem like it would
I suppose it's a matter of preference. Personally I enjoy myself when I'm creating characters of my own, and I think it's what allowed me to develop a unique style of my own. The foundation is definitely more important to make your work look good, but I think creating things on your own gets your creativity juices pumping!

Thanks dude, it is some spacey type or armor, I imagined that he is traveling in a protective suit that can handle some of the harsher environments of the galaxy. You know all that radiation and solar storms. But yes I can see how you could think it was a cryo-chamber, I should been a bit clearer and maybe added his hands controlling something.

Thanks! If I can you can, it's all about how much you want it and how much time you're willing to spend on it. I am self thaught and I haven't studied art anywhere, so art school ain't necessary - but it is great to go to and will help a lot.

Wow! Thanks a lot for linking this, I always wanted to try animation, and I knew it could be done in photoshop but I haven't found a good tutorial yet.
I picked up Art Academy on the 3DS about 2 weeks ago and it's gotten me back into doing arts stuffs. I've posted this stuff in the 3ds thread but it fits more for me to post here I guess since that threads for games. Most of what I have is what they teach in the lessons aside from 2 things in this gallery I did on my own in free paint with a reference.

This one is last one I did with what I learned from the lessons in pastels and while having a few drinks lol, prolly should have gone back and fixed up the smudges. Did it while at Buffalo Wild Wings at a meet while everyone was too busy screaming at the TV's for like 2 hours, my god. I really wish I could do this kinda stuff naturally in SAI, I have what I need to do so, but for some reason I'm just better on this little app/game than I am on a fully capable and better program, so I'm not sure if I should continue doing stuff on the 3ds or really try and move back into SAI somehow.

Finally starting to wrap my head around perspectives,PROGRESS!

animation background layout for an assignment, had to rush the lighting a little bit
I reaaally love the texture, tone, and lighting of it! I genuinely want to go there.
I'm just wondering why the middle of the picture is the brightest part? Seeing as the glowing cauldron of doom is all the way down there, shouldn't the lighting be offset a bit downwards?
originally the light was coming from within the cauldron, so the light was more directional. i threw some effects over the top and it doesn't really look that way anymore though
Progress on the birthday comic I'm making:

What's a good colour palette for the giant golden statue that's being hit directly by sunlight? I'm having trouble finding the correct colours (you can see the palette I made above the statue, the peach is the colour of the sash/Hijab)

I realize the headdress is inconsistent, I don't plan on fixing it, as the deadline is tomorrow
