Great brushwork Girls illustrated with thick eyebrows are great as well Her neck seems awfully long though
'Made an island for a little tamagotchi-like game.
The quickly brushed-in water transitions on the beaches and pool are rather at odds with the exhaustively detailed looking rocks. Did you use photo elements in there? It looks like it but hard to tell at that size The overall feel of the piece is magic as usual though. I adore your neat colour use in pretty much everything you post

I don't understand what you're doing.
I mistook this for the creepy stuff thread
snip the picture looks like shit.

(And made out of rubber it seems) [editline]24th May 2014[/editline]
Haven't painted from reference in a while and I needed the practice: [T]http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2014/144/8/6/brushwork_practice_by_boonyboy-d7jj7j9.jpg[/T]
Love the brushwork and how expressive it is.
Click to see all my characters! I apologize in advance for the graininess and roughness of the images therein. I will now schpeil briefly - there were a few goals behind designing these guys. I wanted them to be extremely visually distinctive while still being somewhat stylistically cohesive (pretty simple, exaggerated heads/hands/feet). I also wanted to make them have little to no sex appeal whatsoever, which may seem like an odd choice given the female majority, but I firmly believe that either both genders should be portrayed attractively or neither. You guys can tell me if I succeeded on those fronts, or which ones you like, or what have you! I always love feedback.
Click to see all my characters!.
The third one looks pretty generic and out of place.
The third one looks pretty generic and out of place.
I agree, and in fact the style seems to shift almost for every one, so they don't look like they belong in the same story Also "roigen"? That sounds like someone intentionally mispronouncing a name to make it sound retarded

Allright since there is no chat thread I'm just going to post in here. I'm not very creative and I would like to get into art, anyone know a place I can start?
The third one looks pretty generic and out of place.
Yeah, that's a good point - he looks out of place because he's so normal. I'll see what I can do to make him more interesting!
I agree, and in fact the style seems to shift almost for every one, so they don't look like they belong in the same story
This I'm not so sure about. What do you mean by "style"?
Also "roigen"?
Allright since there is no chat thread I'm just going to post in here. I'm not very creative and I would like to get into art, anyone know a place I can start?
Pencil (2B), paper (any, you can buy a ream of printer paper for under $10, and you'll learn an incredible amount if you draw your way through a ream), look up measuring/sighting (make SURE you understand thoroughly this process, so that you know any problems you're having are due to your own inexperience rather than flawed methods) and apply it to drawings of the very simplest objects, from life. Try to accurately reproduce the proportions of the things you draw before all else. Do not worry about shadows or tones or anything else, I recommend trying to make your drawings like wireframes to begin with. Hold your pencil reasonably far back, the sooner you develop control like this the better. Draw faintly, only put in stronger lines when you think you can see the correct line among the marks you've made. Personally I don't recommend using erasers, especially in the beginning when its important not to linger on single drawings. Don't be precious, be ruthless. Do not draw very small, do a couple of drawings on an A4 page, not a dozen. Post the best attempts you make here and we can probably help you identify where you might be going wrong.
This I'm not so sure about. What do you mean by "style"?
I mean a consistent representation of your specific design sensibilities for this comic or whatever it is. Basically they should all look like they've been drawn by the same artist, within the same world, with the same stylistic principles binding them together as a set regardless of how different they are physically. You even said you wanted cohesion of style in your post, which is exactly what I'm pointing out :v: For the most part they look like they've been pulled from all sorts of different universes.
well jeez tell me how you really feel
Always ed: look, here's me doing exactly what I mentioned just yesterday! Practicing some painting, I quite like Corel Painter, feels natural to use it but the tablet sensitivity settings are funky there, painting is not perfect, didn't try to copy exact details but more overall shape and shading, also good value practice. Your ellipses need a bit of work I think
I'm not very creative and I would like to get into art
All I can say really is get out. If you don't feel that you're capable of making something that no one's seen or thought of before, then what would your end goal be anyway?
To improve myself through creative design.
Your opening statement was a declaration that you are not creative. That in and of itself makes me go "bullshit," because it's not something that one can just not be. I mean, the ability to create spans way beyond the 2d planes of any sort of illustration. How much have you experimented with yourself to find your own comfort zone? Sculpture? Music? Film? It's all art, bro. Basically, I read your opening post as a little naive, and that your own definition of creative thought and your perception of what creative abilities are might be too narrow. You might want to take several steps back and try a bit of everything.

Chromatic aberration has to be the most overused filter in digital painting. It looks OK but I've seen it so much I'm just sick of it. Otherwise, material rendering is great, perspective needs work. The curve on the bottom would put the horizon so low that you wouldn't see that much of the top.
mmmm I think the pot in the photo had a bell shape to the body of it if you were trying to copy it.
The picture was only for reference I've used for metal material, some design is similar too but I didn't want exact copy.
For a study it just masks problems and makes it harder to observe and learn from your work.
Makes sense then, but I spent 8 hours on this already and kinda wanted to rush and try out some things, but I'm gonna tweak the lower part of it once my eyes rest a little.
