quick photostudy. trying to switch over to colors from using greyscale all this time.
Ear seems kinda high up, and the face seems to be lacking a curve from forhead to chin, although we think of human faces as "flat" the "muzzle" area on a human face still sticks out some from the forhead, and the forehead leans back some
Even if you just move the ear down though I think it would look fairly nice. I really like the way the neck looks (something I have issue with). Did you work from a photo for it?
And remove that really blatant brush texture on the window. Ew.
But the biggest issue with working at indie studios is most of them offer very little pay or in most cases no pay at all
anyone offering nothing to you in return for your work is not a studio or a business or at least not one that you should be trusting or working with. making a game with friends or working on a mod for the fun and the passion of it is one thing, but being 'employed' by a studio looking to publish a game and make money, and not being paid, is bullshit
where do you live? your work is definitely of a quality to get an entry-level job, even at a bigger studio. i can think of about four studios in my vicinity that would take you at some level if they had a position for you

i know this because my face is flat like a pancake.

Really? :o Thanks a lot, any help would be amazing! I'm from Columbus Ohio so yea not much in the form of paying studios here except some start-up studios that don't earn enough money to pay "interns" lol but I am willing to move anywhere that offers a good job lead. Heck I'll leave tomorrow if I can land something.
start looking then! i don't know what the market is like in the states but pretty much every city in the UK will at least have a few mobile and/or indie devs. i think a lot of people would consider the work below them, and maybe in terms of technical skill and execution it is, but you gotta start somewhere and working in these places will be invaluable industry experience. drawing and painting and modelling skills are one thing - being able to do them in a studio, day in day out, nine to five, to very exact specification, is another

start researching what's near you first though. you'll probably be surprised how many cg studios, mobile devs, and small indie devs are near you
research is super important. it leads to have great cover letters and great cover letters will land you a job
i'm not the most experienced person in the world but when you've done some research if you wanna pm me your portfolio and cv and a cover letter i'd be happy to have a look

I am using photoshop CS3.
Have CS6 installed on office machines, but I don't use any of the new features...
Also, i fyou are planning on getting photoshop, get the odd number of CS, don't get 2, 4, or 6. They crash and lag like something else on some machines.

Awesome work.
Death peacock set.

Do you go to school or did you graduate? Go to CCAD or CIA and check it out if you havent already theyre good art school in ohio you might make some connections or find something worthwhile there by just visiting.
sadly that's because competent programmers are few and far between.
not many people try to learn it because C++ is fucking confusing and everyone knows the old adage of fixing a bug and having 5 more spring up.
I don't want to go all programming in this thread but that's what unit tests are for.
I took on C++ as my first language about 9 years ago. It's not difficult on its own, the difficult thing is getting anything meaningful done with it, because there is very little native functionality and so you need to rely on third party libraries which mostly make use of advanced language features and complex vocabulary in their documentation. For anyone wanting to start programming, I think C# is really good. The problem is when you switch back to C++, it feels like you've just picked up a stone age tool.

C++ is powerful, as powerful as you can get for the common languages.
It is just not fool proof.
There is no garbage collector following you around, but you can implement your own smart pointer class, or just use C++11 share ptr.
C++ programs are much much faster than C# and Java.
Unity, even though it has an C# interface, it is still has C++ back bone, and it is trying very hard to expose its C++ side now, trying to deviate from C#.
I much prefer coding in C++ than any other language, especially you can use Visual Studio.
Unless you wanna do web dev, then Java has all the lib for you already. C++ will really be stone age.

Oh Yes i Used to attend CCAD but it ended up being too expensive for my family and I to cover so i transferred to BGSU's Digital arts program. I graduated last December.
but my time at CCAD was great. Did you also go there?
No but it was one of the schools I was considering, my friend got a full ride there cause he won the ohio regional schoolastic awards thing but he ended up going to mica instead.

It is true that asians in particular will have flatter faces, some even with a forehead that protrudes further than the chin but that is usually accompanied by a strong curve on the forehead (from what I can find, I haven't stared at the korean students from my school that much to have their faces memorized)
I based my proportions on this: http://archfaci.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=479864
A study calculating the average proportions of african american women. Admittedly that a dude up there but I assume that wouldn't effect that sort of detail too heavily.
I also asked if he was working from a photo since I would be curious to see it, since it is true I'm not particularly well acquainted with african american proportions, the area I live in being pretty much all average white people. For example I thought the nose seemed overly short, but after looking around its pretty well right
Edit:
Maybe I am haha
You're overthinking things too much dude
I can tell Japanese, Korean, Thai, Philippines, and Chinese apart, but I can describe the difference in neither words nor paintings. If I do, I will just be describing 'a' Chinese or 'a' Korean, not Chinese or Korean in general.

someone asked me if my mother hit my face with a frying pan when i was a kid :(
I've tried to make texture with mostly self-made stuff.
Not sure if right thread.

I am making designs for a robot for my schoolwork. I barely draw although I really want to get better.

This was my first design of the whole robot a few months ago.
a few days ago I made another drawing.

The lines are supposed to lights that would appear for people with poor eyesight.
Have I improved at all?
Does anyone have any advice on how to make it look less goofy and strange?
Also I absolutely hate hands and feet, I cant draw hands properly and I just can draw anything resembling a foot.
I feel so weird uploading this stuff when everyone else is posting much better images.
You can't expect yourself to be able to draw properly if you have no knowledge of the basics of drawing. We can't exactly help you in any real way other than telling you to use one or more references for the robot. Or at least look at how other people draw.

Oh cool, I'm going to MICA in August.
Are you going for illustration or computer art? cause apparently they have an amazing illustration program. I'm so fucking jealous, if only they would have given me a better scholarship there. My friend goes there she's really amazing http://erysium.tumblr.com/
E: two more color studies. I stopped sketching the scenes before drawing and instead just laying colors down right away, it's a good step for me.
