It's been a while since I last posted here but I got an inspiration today from this tower building thingy to turn into a flying aircraft carrier. Still heavily wip, I put a few hours onto it already. If you got any suggestions feel free. Can't be arsed to fully shade his face with midtones. [t]http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2014/195/a/9/masamori_sumimura_by_rikimaru6811-d7qlrzi.png[/t] That's probably why I'm never going to get better.
I recreated a logo I saw on a uniform in Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic II and added a little of my own. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/9EZ2Ab4.png[/img_thumb] The left is the one found on the uniform and the right one is my version. The lettering is from an Ralph McQuarrie concept art. I made it in Sketchup so that's why it isn't exactly round. What do you all think ? and can anyone suggest a program where I can redraw it in with rounder edges? I like the line snapping and the ability to easily draw from the middle of a line in Sketchup but it's not easy to draw nice curves and circles in it. Probably going to get it made into a embroidered patch when it's done.
Terrible as a logo, very weak design wise
Care to elaborate?
Care to elaborate?
Well it's obviously two separate ideas mashed into one awkward result. The execution of design principles in each don't match up with the other at all. Also it's far too finicky and complicated for a logo. Nothing aligns. It would be completely impractical at a small size, or in B&W. You'd be better off asking in the GD thread though tbh, they'd know better than me how to break it down :v: Design is fucking hard, logo design is fucking hard. You have to study it to do it well, or to even recognise that you're doing it badly in some cases. I only have a half-assed understanding of thinking in the mode of design, so sorry if my crit is a bit sparse, I'm not very articulate on the subject
Righto skipper, thanks for the info!
If this isn't photo-bashed I'm going to feel very inadequate.
Don't worry it uses photos and phototextures for the base. :P
I thought this bird was kinda funny looking. It's a Cape Gannet. [t]http://i.imgur.com/fel01WR.jpg[/t] Any tips for improving it?
What would you call these kind of portraits? I wouldn't call it a caricature, but it's stylized, idk what the word is. Like expressive or something? I'm trying to find some artists that draw in a more expressive style that I can learn from, anyone know of any?

Some dancing. The moves are almost identical, but I couldn't decide which one to post + the tracks are good and worth a listen so.. enjoy :) Critique is very welcome. shitty weekend, didn't have time to paint one-two creatures a day like i was planning. here's something then. a displacer beast. [editline]15th July 2014[/editline] also here's one of the many sketches i did for a future beast (the hook horror). this is the design i'll probably go with. [editline]15th July 2014[/editline] that's a back view sort of btw. [editline]15th July 2014[/editline] side/back thing.

I like em! I feel that the strokes/media combination you're using gives a bit of a hairy look, particularly around the eyes of the pretty lady
I think one of my main problems is I'm not entirely sure what to work towards. I certainly don't care about realism too much, at least not in terms of rendering or shading, but I don't have a style I'd like to work towards either. I kind of like some of these portraits as sketches http://adriamercuri.tumblr.com/ but other than that I'm not really sure. Also I'm terrible with line work in general but again I don't know how to really improve that without some other drawings to learn from. I felt more comfortable working with charcoal on the right than graphite on the left, but i should probably keep trying different shit till i find something that works.
Pick a favourite artist and work toward that?
Been looking at animal portraits on tradition media on dA and found this: http://denismayerjr.deviantart.com/gallery/ Wholly shit! I'm not too fond of photorealism in painting; it gets to a point where the fluid and expressive mark-making of the physical media gets lost and you end up in a situation where, in terms of mood and emotive qualities, you're not achieving anything that wouldn't be achieved by a photo
