behold the beholderrrrr
I'd like to know how you achieve that rugged effect. I adore the style.
Some of the stuff I've been doing this summer to waste time: I think I messed up the shield perspective. It was supposed to look angled down his side. Also, pixelart warrior guy:
I'd like to know how you achieve that rugged effect. I adore the style.
it's probably the brushes i used for this particular illustration.
more studies from today I need to spend more time doing land/cityscapes because boy am I baad at those
Some characters of mine at a market! This time I really tried to work on backgrounds and hands, I hope it shows
I'm almost embarrassed to post these considering that a lot of people have been posting actual (and fucking amazing) studies and original works, and I've just come to bring tonight's random doodles to the table, 2 of which are fan art (which I'm kinda surprised at the lack of it considering that this is an anything-is-welcome-here thread). :v: [t]http://i.imgur.com/S5vrhYq.jpg[/t] Don't ask me why I just randomly wanted to draw a Sir Shootsalot Sniper. I just did. And I didn't bother to look up any references at all, so glaring owl anatomical errors/inconsistencies with the actual in-game item is just a part of it, I guess. [t]http://i.imgur.com/0ddG3CK.jpg[/t] After that, I decided to draw up a quick little creature of some sort. I honestly really like the face, but after that I kinda ran out of ideas and so the back part is just kinda full of bleh. [t]http://i.imgur.com/yNhWAE7.jpg[/t] And because running out of ideas on that creature frustrated me, I then went straight back to TF2 and started doodling (and coloring because why not :v: ) a few expressions for the female Engineer since I'm working on an enhanced version of her for SFM, and thusly she's kinda stuck on my brain ATM. And because I only felt like drawing three faces since the second and third ones kinda frustrated me (especially the second one, since she absolutely refuses to look like the other faces no matter what I do), I decided to splurge and doodle up some mandatory shipping. It's the only real reason why I want to make an enhanced version of her in the first place. :') And I'm actually pretty proud of how she and Snipes turned out (I'm usually pretty bad at drawing couples), so they might wind up being made into a nice, finalized piece (hopefully I'll manage to fix her slightly-oversized head and his extra skinniness).
fan art (which I'm kinda surprised at the lack of it considering that this is an anything-is-welcome-here thread). :v:
Sure we don't restrict subject matter but this is still facepunch, we have SOME standards
Sure we don't restrict subject matter but this is still facepunch, we have SOME standards
Well, if fan art is not desirable here than I shall refrain from posting further pieces of it.
Well, if fan art is not desirable here than I shall refrain from posting further pieces of it.
It's not undesirable, but if you're just beginning to draw and haven't had any proper lessons or work in art, then you need to be careful. A lot of young artists get into art by doing fan art - most of us here probably did. I have friends who are working in the industry and they both started off doing fan art and still do fan art today. But you need to go about it sensibly, because it's easy to just draw fan art to impress other fans and completely lose sight of the lessons you could be learning and the new ideas you could be contributing to the world. and your fan art consists of drawing pictures of other people's characters it might not be too helpful. In my opinion, for fan art to be not the generic slush that unfortunately takes up a lot of the front page of Deviant Art these days then there are some things to bear in mind. If your fan art is for practice, then it ought to be done carefully and with art theory in mind. I.e., drawing another artist's characters n order to break down the shapes and proportions and colours to see what makes that particular character look and feel the way it does. If the fan art is done for display and as a finished piece for other people to marvel at, then it should reinterpret the source material and show either a new concept or direction, or show the source material using a different aesthetic or technique. Your stuff looks like you're making a proper effort though, so don't worry too much! Just bear in mind that studying real life is essential as well - that's drawing figures, learning anatomy, learning colour theory, etc.

Currently in my second year of art school (although I suppose some people might technically consider that new since I'm not a professional yet, but I've still been drawing for years and feel that I've got at least an intermediate grasp on anatomy, perspective, color, etc.). I suppose I should've known that rough doodles I did quickly and for fun didn't really belong here since it would seem that most of the stuff that's been posted is serious artwork, that's my bad for not thinking before I posted. I really do feel embarrassed now, though. ^^; Sorry.

Looking for advice. Did this 'sketch' with fine sharpie in a few minutes or something. I'm interested in how to shade something like this, or any design changes I should make. I know that I'll be changing the upper 'arm' of the lower part of the 'Z', as I think it curves away from the other arm a bit too much. The lower right corner also seems a bit off and I need to redo that too. The 'I' in the middle has problems with its serifs.

this is happening
i like these, i wish there was a cyber-punk game with that style. for some reason that's the first thing i think of when i see the first girl.
I feel like for me it is because their faces are kind of like the woman from Blade Runner.
Going from fan-service anime chicks to this, huh. I like it.
Going from fan-service anime chicks to this, huh. I like it.
They're both continuations of my most popular work
Going from fan-service anime chicks to this, huh. I like it.
you mean that ISNT a fan service anime chick? hubba hubba
I mean she's Japanese I guess. I'll go with it. And yes Eric I'm aware, I just wanted to point out your progression throughout that page there. Delightful.
little intellect devourer warm-up before i do this beholder scene.
I posted this as part of my own thread below, but I thought it would get more critique here. I figure this is probably drawn to the best of my current abilities. Well, at least digitally anyway. Sorry for the large image! Thoughts?

[editline]21st July 2014[/editline] anyway the 2nd one is really xenian, i love it.

wow decent photoshop stuff might be better suited for the design thread idk
Contrast and saturation are kind of all over the place. Ideas are cool though.
also this:
This reminded me of my own bird-themed monster design. I absolutely love your design and paint style, awesome work! I'd really like to be able to paint like that. You got a DeviantArt or your Tumblr link?

It looks like holes that are floating above the paper. Try disabling the shadows and see how it looks like, I think you'll like it more that way too.
