I don't believe your height scales and color separation charts are as necessary as tonal/atmospheric concepts, which of course you do have at the top left and right. I think all the technicalities of the level can be handed by the game designers and modelers, so the most efficient way to contribute to the project would be focusing on tone and feel (i.e. exploring more of the nighttime concept for the entire landscape and not just the tent).
Yeah max, as it is you've not even painted the location as it should appear, with the tent in it at the desired time of day etc. The tent setpiece and the thumbnail from the ref are very very much separate images there with only the suggestion that one should be shoehorned into the other in some way. The scale is completely unclear. The one little thumbnail you've done is nice (at a tiny size, and idk if you colour picked from the ref but it's a bad idea if you did) but you'd want to expand upon it. atm you're telling us all about the scene in a roundabout way visually but aren't SHOWING us the scene visually :v:
I'm sorry but why are his clothes so skin-tight?
This is Santa's goal outfit. He isn't quite there yet. But no really Santa was the first thing I doodled to get a start on the project. In all honestly I could stand to go back and fix it so he doesn't look like he has red skin with fur trim. It's all a work in progress right now, so I'll look into fixing him so he doesn't look so ridiculous.
well for one thing maybe you shouldn't give him a crotch bulge
Any tips on how I could render this better? [t]http://i.imgur.com/XyYMozU.jpg[/t]
Needs a broader value range. Is there a ref we can see? That ear looks awfully small as well

Things are always darker and brighter than what I interpret. Crazy what contrasting values do to how you interpret an image

Anyway, thank you for critique, now it's clear where I made mistake and what I haven't done.

Close one eye and unfocus your vision until everything is kinda bokeh. You'll notice the shape of his hair is just an area of more or less black, a lot of the rest of his face is a mid-dark grey with mid-light greys toward the front. There are a couple of accents of lighter value on his chin and neck, but you'll probably find they aren't all that bright, the punch coming from the simultaneous contrast. http://i.gyazo.com/6ece661fa7c87261216be8efc3b3dae3.png The A swatch is the brightest value on him, taken from his chin. B is the darkest, his hair.

Does anyone know of any good references for clouds from ground-level? I'm looking for something colossal and billowing, like something you'd see in the Great Plains; all I've been able to find so far are small normal clouds and ridiculous thunderhead clouds. I'm trying to do the clouds for that little dustbowl scene and at this point I'd rather reference something than make yet another component of the scene and have it look odd, then have to fix it completely.

Black death tongue and flesh skies glisten blind eyes screaming silence rage and hate Wild animals fighting fate claws through sand a body plummeting through clouds Like artillery from the highest mountain tearing through the air at the ground and the people as they stare.
The main character for my webcomic. A bit paler than usual.

I need to make sure my anatomy is okay before finishing the drawing Anyway, here's something spooky - the eye is inspired by that recent horror hit, Four Nights at Frank's or something like that
