Sai actually has some crazy amazing true colour blending (none of this gross-looking transparency/overlay that PS uses) to simulate paint mixing - it's pretty nice
Well idk about PS since I don't paint with it, but didn't you have a bit of a row with people over your blending technique since you do it manually or without X setting or something, hence making it look all overlapped? Maybe that's off-point idk but no accomplished painters that you see seem to have any issue with PS's blending capabilities
Anyway I had a look at Sai and the interface looked pretty unbearable
I took the time to come to terms with Painter's idiosyncrasies in any case so I doubt I'll switch to anything in the foreseeable future

mm, pretty
Your stone texture is top-notch, although it's sad to see them kinda half-finished.

At least I don't feel like crap showing off yet another practice round, mostly with the rocks.

Late as shit, bored as fuck and don't want to go to bed. Attempted to draw a female, then when I decided I should go to bed I would just "give it some shading" and then sit there for way too long adding shading to a completely unfinished drawing. Goddamn me, stop it.

I should sit down and study some anatomy one day.
Main issues I see are tiny hand, small head and short, thick neck, overall the idea is there though.

theyre all pretty distorted. If its your first time Id suggest you try with something simpler
Is Posemaniac.com a good site for gesture drawings?
Been doing those 30 second exercises, pretty fun, though I've heard that 3d models aren't exactly the best source for gesture drawings.
Has anyone here had porn needs so specific that they drew it themselves?
Welp, some progress on this thing.

I really like using metallic colors. I'm considering doing a painting that's purely metallic.

There's a few tools for that, http://artists.pixelovely.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing/ for example. And yeah, if you want to learn how to draw a human, your best bet is to draw a human, not 3d renders.

Don't stop, baby.
So, I tried experimenting with metallic colors (bronze, gold and silver woo woo)
Worked from a reference and I still need to study anatomy please don't murder me :(((

I just discovered the thread re-started.
How much would it cost to professionally get a photo restored? I'm restoring a photo for someone reffered to me via a shared friend and am trying to figure out what to charge?
Its fairly discolored and a bit faded, some sort of water damage and a few other spot touch ups but nothing too terrible
(obviously Im planning to undercut professional fees)
I'm embarking on the long and painful journey of digital painting.
Here have a meh portrait of Doc Facilier.

For non-artistic PS work I'd say a flat rate of $20/hour or something, personally.
Unless you're a) gonna takes ages to do it or b) not going to manage a quite professional quality job
In those cases I'd say just pick a round figure that's fair for both of you, $30-$50 or whatever that might be

Yes, long and painful. As I understand, and not necessarily in this order:
1. Study line and perspective
2. Study value and lighting
3. Study anatomy
4. Practice in greyscale, specifically with blending and effective brush strokes
5. Start studying colors and blending
6. Make stuff

I prefer using a flat rate for commissions since i'm a multitasker and this being the first restoration ive done there might be a fair number of googling breaks. I know quality wise I'll be able to pull the same level as the professional options around though.
edit:
My draft e-mail to him at the moment suggests 50 dollars, which includes the scanning cost for me (it's a large photo, beyond what my home scanner could do) which will probably be 5-10 dollars, does that seem like an over charge? I know the local store options are expensive or guaranteed crap
edit2:
I've sent him an e-mail for 45 (it sounds so much lower even thought it isn't really :v:) I hate pricing work on request.
so this girl i know asked me to draw her as a hedgehog empress or some shit so

oh my god that is adorable
I finally got the hang of my tablet so I decided to draw something.
It's still very WIP:
