Its not like fruit are specifically helpful at making you learn much either way. Draw some bottles or some dishes. Grab some stuff and a lamp and set it up on your desk and draw that.
Jeez Jallen, the guy's been actually improving and you continue to just bash him. I think you're just complaining to him for the sake of it. It's a nice looking apple and I think he's ready to branch out to other studies and references. Don't be such a dick about it.
Oh sorry, I'll stop posting what I consider to be useful advice and post useless "well done" posts, because that's what people need to get better. Deviantart is a great example of this, and the art quality there is so high as a result!
I did say it's a good looking apple, the point is that self satisfaction in your work is the ultimate motivation and is more important than any pat on the back somebody posts here. I don't know about you, but I don't think drawing fruit would keep me going.
I've done other stuff too but mostly in art class and I obviously don't have them with me.
I'll try a traditional life study of something under a light source, unfortunately my desk lamp isn't strong enough to cast interesting shadows.
What's your art dream? What do you want to be able to sit at your desk and draw an amazing picture of?

Your consideration of useful advice is you on your high horse. You may be giving advice but your attitude is abysmal.

If you mean me, cartoon stuff basically, kinda like what this guy makes
But of course I need to understand the basics of everything before doing cartoon stuff
Guys help
Someone dropped my bamboo pen tablet while I was away and somehow the tablet's entire micro usb port got pulled out. Is there a way to open the tablet so I can plug it back? (it looks replug-able)
[editline]20th September 2014[/editline]
Never mind I managed to open it, apparently the force that pulled the plug out caused it to scrape the part of the circuit it was connected to.

fuck just realised it's off centre now I wanna die
Feel like there's something missing, C&C? tia
Should the shapes at the "B" and "N" appear to be bends of the middle cross? because it doesn't
Should the shapes at the "B" and "N" appear to be bends of the middle cross? because it doesn't
Yeah, they're meant to be folds. I'm trying to get it all in one colour so the lack of shading is probably to blame.

What's up with the jaggies in the center? On the cross, to the right of 20 and to the left of 06.
And in the folds the letter B is not touching the edges but the letter N is, which looks inconsistent/unpleasant to me personally.
I don't really know anything about design, but I'm trying to help a bit anyway if you don't mind.

Yeah, much appreciated. As for the jagginess, just an oversight on my part - easy to fix. And I know what you mean about those letters, they pissed me off because (as they're different shapes) it was difficult to get them to look even.
Yeah, they're meant to be folds. I'm trying to get it all in one colour so the lack of shading is probably to blame.
It's not the lack of shading that ruined it, it's that the area after the fold seems to be wider.
Yeah that was giving me a bit of a headache as well - it's the way it's folded.
Try using a strip of paper and fold it that way, it just doesn't work like that.
Unless you cut it I suppose, but it still wouldn't look like it does on your design.
Feel like there's something missing, C&C? tia
they're coming to my city next month :v:
the stars around the center seem a little too cramped, "BRAND" is bent weirdly (letters get wider at the top instead of more spread out), the dashed line on the outside is fuzzy, and the ribbons that the B and the N are on don't seem to fit much at all. also, what is the 2006? you might wanna consider getting rid of it depending on what it is and replacing it with "EST. / '00" or something like that
If you round the edges of the 'folds' it'll probably help greatly with the appearance of it being an actual fold- but frankly I don't think that kind of rigid vector design lends itself to being 'folded' anyway. To be honest, compared to the design as a whole, the entire B and N concept of the design kinda sucks (IMO).
Anyways I made some Blacklight Retribution fan art, I also posted it in 3D because I'm a scumbag and I have nothing better to do with my life.

We gotta storyboard an existing sequence from a live action film in animation storyboard class
tbh it's a cool exercise and it makes all the weebs in my class squirm because god forbid they learn how to properly set up a shot from 3dpd film

I made this awhile ago for my girlfriend for her birthday. The overwhelmed with happiness reaction when she got it (I came to her house with a totally innocuous gift box) was worth the month or so it took to make.
If I were to personally wear it I'd say the colors are a little too vivid, but that seriously looks like a legitimate and awesome sweatshirt. Fantastic job!

looks like the guy from that galactopicon thing the mods were making.
Ran out of time doing this still life study so the shadow edges are still hard, once I have time I'll get around to softening them up.

snip menter pls forbive me bb
you dont have to snip it. i just think you're almost raising that .gif of yours as a child. you should be a little less obsessed with a single piece. i used to be like this when i started painting... anything above mediocrity felt like a milestone to me. and it might feel like that to you, but it doesn't feel like that to everyone. if you want my advice: its ok to be proud of what you've done but that kind of stops you from producing more and more. in my opinion it's just very unproductive and illusive.
You're completely right in that I finally found something I was successful at and it's very unhealthy to dwell on it too long. But, in my defense, I spent an entire weekend planning and producing this piece, and I didn't even have to make the models. And I mean literally three entire days working on this- so I realized with a bit more time I could do something I haven't done before, and I think it's a significant change, not just 'I touched it up a bit more'. I spent seven hours rendering out that small animation just to try and fully realize it in a way I've never attempted before.
Anyways so what I'm trying to say is, you're right, and when I said 'I'm done posting it' I really meant it. I make worthwhile pieces of any nature very seldomly and I know you're right, I just think the changes I made justified a final hurrah. I really do appreciate that you're trying to push me in a positive direction and help me change for the better, but the explanation definitely would have done it better than a dumb.
Anyways since I already have the post I'll just put a link here instead of unsnipping the snip.
