I'm having huge problems with symmetry. I'm okay at drawing (by okay I mean I can draw things that at least resemble their respective objects, with the exception of people because holy shit people are hard), but when it comes to symmetry, be it eyes or both sides of a sword's hilt or maybe just making two objects in the picture look moderately identical.
Any tips for improving/practicing this? Just trying to make symmetrical things gets frustrating and makes me feel like shit because it all turns out shit.
Eyes shouldn't be symmetrical, just similar. Sketching both sides of whatever it is instead of drawing one to completion and then starting the other would certainly help, if you're not doing that already. Also not focusing your eyes on what you're drawing, but instead on a nearby point, with help you read the picture at the same time as you draw it. So if you did have an eye shape drawn in on one side, you might look at the middle of the person's forehead while you draw the other, so you're seeing both at once in periphery. With geometric stuff at angles, if you're talking about making things LOOK symmetrical with tilt and recession and stuff, you'll want to learn perspective.
[sp](with drawing in general, you'll want to learn perspective).[/sp]
Im curious can any of you tell whats going on in this at all? :v:

Close enough it's just a sketch and the actual project is due in 10 hours so I guess I'm staying overnight and sleeping in the computer lab :v: Will update in a few if I don't pass out
Also a selfie (not sure if it's done?)

Nice colour & values
Nose might be just slightly off on the shadow side?
And in same same vein as your fabric from those other studies you posted, the Tshirt is a bit eyecatching on the shoulder, where you have those dark strokes against the lit strip of shirt, overlapping into the bg. it's a small thing but looks weird and draws attention because of the contrast
-snip-
idk how to fix this and make it readable
E: I think we've reached the disappointing end of this journey

clean up the lines
The city reads well imo, just the clouds are shit and the falling things and the story they tell are very vaguely painted
The middle section looks nice with a sense of abstract, but the top and the bottom look like an amateur trying to paint a scene in 2012 :(
I don't get the 2012 reference but yeah I didn't have much of an idea what i was doing and refining lines and shapes wasn't working too well so I'm leaving it like this for this one, thanks guys at least it's not as horrid as it was last night

I meant that the top and bottom look like a sloppy repaint of this:

Oh I see it but i feel like whoever made that poster fucked up the perspective somehow. I'm just surprised I managed to actually finish this overnight and I only passed out twice.
E: Here's another from my figure painting class today

I've been studying anatomy really hard! But in the middle of it I got bored and made this entirely un-anatomically correct little doodle thing to explain how I felt

I don't know how finicky you want to be with it, but it might look better if the door bounces back open just a couple pixels and then back to all the way open. It looks like with that much force it would still have the energy. Same goes for the torso as a whole, while you have all the individual details moving quite realistically, the body would probably also recoil a bit with the force of slamming a door open.

He should have probably mentioned that he is intentionally trying to make it look very low-budget.

Yeah, i'm planning to do that when it's cleaned up and I'm compositing it together. I just didn't really feel like drawing the whole thing over again so it's easier if I just do it in After Effects once the art is done

Breaking down the parts of the figure that way and shading each individual one at a time is a very bad habit to develop and not a great way of working since you're not visualizing the entire figure and relating all the values to each other. Concentrating on local structures will usually result in localized clusters of values which will flatten the figure out. I would suggest laying in the basic shadows and highlights broadly for the entire figure before refining or shading.

If he actually wanted it to be low budget he would only show a shot of the top of the door sliding to the side.
I'm usually a lurker, but I'm taking AP Studio Art this year in high school and I feel way more comfortable with my work this time around so here's the last 3 things I've done:

I already see some things that need work, but I want to hear from someone else. Also, these are based off of reference photos I took myself, so if anybody has advice about composition that would be helpful too. (My next few projects won't have a blank white void of a background, I swear to god.)

You should generally work from real life rather then photos, so you have to learn more to parse the lines and shades from 3d to 2d yourself where part of the work is already done in a photo, but they are looking fairly good.
Seems like your colour one is shaded with black instead of compliments or such though which isn't great, might be the lighting though.
If you want to get good pictures of your work take them outdoors (preferably on sunny or slightly overcast days) you'll get far better colour and contrast from your camera, and make sure you get the photo from straight on, being at an angle distorts the image in how we see it, messing with proportions and how we see them. That'll be important too if you put together a portfolio ever especially.

Oh, I'm definitely going to take better photos for my portfolio, I just took those really quick before class with my phone. I'll make sure to start shading with compliments too, I've already read about how it looks better but shading with black is a bad habit I'm still unlearning. And for my next projects I'll see if I can bring props into class so I can work from those and not a photo. Thanks!
Not sure if this is the correct thread, but I see quite a few active people here so why not. I'm interested in sprite content for video production and I'd like to know if there are any notable guides for the basics of dealing with sprites. Also, are there any preferable drawing pads I should look into?
Lilyo is an amazing spriter, maybe labpunch his posts on spriting/pixel art (the search bar, top right)
Special drawing pads, I don't think so. I buy the cheapest I can get.
Drawing tablets don't make much of a difference at the amateur level. I mean, I could pay for a $300 dollar tablet and I'd still draw like shit so I might as well stick with what I have.
