You also seem to have a problem with lines (accents). They should really only be the darkest folds and areas of a painting where no light at all reaches, but you're sort of using them as linework in some places like the breasts, hands, and wings. The hat for example is beautifully painted, but breasts don't really work that way unless she's wearing a skin tight tapered sort of trench coat. Hair is also usually more clustered and less straw like. I would do studies of different hairs by breaking the shades down into simple shapes and the form into a more 3 dimensional volume.
Is the reflected light suppose to be mustard yellow? Or are my eyes deceiving me and that isn't mustard yellow?
Figured I'd post some random arte I've done for various Vinesauce streams. Most of what I've made is like the first of these: simple, colorless lineart. The other two are examples of when I've had more time to work, such as when a stream is unusually long or when I get started early. Bear in mind that most of these won't make any sense without the context of the accompanying stream. [t]http://img.booru.org/vinesauce//images/12/f53c78e3044bcbdce1362074595951f9f121316b.png[/t] And lastly, something stupid for good measure. [t]http://img.booru.org/vinesauce//images/11/3bd34f435b335e128dd93b7dbe5d39da05f752e0.png[/t] These were all done with a bamboo tablet that I randomly received last Christmas, on the program PaintToolSAI. I've only taken a couple of basic art classes and art has always been a secondary interest anyway. However, I would like to know if there's anything that I'm doing that is inherently bad, and if so, how can I remedy it?

What did you use to do the colorus on the helmet piece? Awesome work, love the ink washes.
Some watercolor and I have this gold gel pen, it's the same as the white ones but it works a lot better for some reason. Also some more experimentation

whatever happened to robot jones?
@Lilyo, I really dig your pen and brushwork. Something is odd about these chess pieces... or is there? and I just can't tell anymore...
maybe a bit more shadow underneath to ground them? the consistent rim light all around the underside looks a little off too
There's actually no reason for the bottom edge on the underside to be highlighted at all since it's facing at a downwards angle from the light source.
a sketch I did yesterday
Anybody got anything that would help me construct heads and faces better? I'm floating around on heads and I haven't done many faces so I tend to skip over them.

It will be much easier for anyone starting out to understand Proko's lessons than Loomis just because he explains it much simpler and with better visuals.

you should use a bigger brush
Yea, I've tried Loomis but whenever I get past the first pages shit goes off the rails and I feel like I'm being intimidated more than taught. Just look at this shit: The information might be right on but the presentation is way too overwhelming in my opinion.
It's simpler alright, that's no reason to recommend it if you ask me The concepts don't take a genius to understand it's executing them well that's hard, and proko won't help with that aspect bollocks @ better visuals, Loomis uses examples from construction to step by step to finished drawings, loads of each. From what I've seen of proko he uses a single example and dodgy red lines composited on himself [editline]15th October 2014[/editline]
Yea, I've tried Loomis but whenever I get past the first pages shit goes off the rails and I feel like I'm being intimidated more than taught. If you're losing focus reading a lot of his stuff at once, remember that every paragraph is likely to be important. You could spend days practicing what he tells you in each double page spread, one at a time, and get amazing before long I imagine. if you read through a chapter all at once though you probably won't retain much :v:
you should use a bigger brush
I've used the paint tool with a large brush and a pencil layer on top but I'll see what a bigger brush can do
I was just picking a page I remember seeing in his perspective lessons and going "oh lord". Yup pretty much tried to go by chapter but if I'm reading your comment correctly I should do segments of chapters and practice said segments? When I read for learning purposes I go through a chapter and then proceed to incorporate all the stuff I read into something. Is that the wrong way to approach Loomy?
Uh huh, he's pretty dense in his delivery as you have discovered I would literally go a page at a time, that way you'll be somewhat prepared to tackle what's on the next page, since it escalates quickly. He talks a lot of theory that you'll need to pace yourself for and learn the application of bit by bit, it would be very very hard to swallow a chapter at a time and try to successfully absorb it all into your work that way
Repost here because redline thread is dead, anything wrong with proportions or perspective? [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/bfFTj1d.png[/thumb]
