Usually when you draw something it's a good idea to think it through though. Here's some retarded shit i had to do today and i tried to just do it without thinking things through too much and it didn't work too well. I really suck at clarity sometimes... I see what you mean, normally I'd draw thumbnails until I get something, but then it's like I haven't painted in a bit, you feel rusty, seems better to just jump right in and refresh yourself.
Everyone has their preference. Had no internet, so I did this thing and named it Allen the Alien
Usually when you draw something it's a good idea to think it through though.
I disagree. It depends on what your goal is. If you're doing thumbs for a design for a client, then you don't need to think it through so much until after you've drawn the first round of thumbs and are ready to start refining. If you're doing something for fun or you want to do a discovery painting to mess around with and explore light, colour, texture, shape, etc, then you might feel more comfortable not planning at all

But I agree being able to jump in directly and develop a good instinct on how and what to paint is a great skill to have. It really helps if you train yourself to see forms and shapes in seemingly random and obscure clusters of strokes.

Drew an Eagle using willow charcoal, compressed chalk and a graphite stick today. Image is broken for me

good call. actually the second one is made in gimp, first time using it. I noticed it was quite pixelated even as i was drawing it will save in png once i finish coloring the first one
do you have a place where you upload all your stuff? tumblr or something?
not really. I usually just ask for critiques here.
well if you ever make one i will follow it

Whole piece evenly and heavily textured again The eye shoots down to the bottom corner of the drape because it has a)texture b)high contrast c) several strong lines drawing into it d)it's bright red. You've overpowered your figure again Choose a focal area to work up and ease out on irrelevant areas, lose the sharp edges and all the other attention grabbing properties from the blankets around your subjects etc. Your works would be WAY stronger if you didn't treat the whole picture harshly with punch and texture throughout. Same mistakes over and over
Rebirth is too addicting, so I drew Judgy. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/LYhAlme.jpg[/thumb]

Focal areas have almost nothing to do with them, it's all about composition and colours.
