Should I buy a Huion GT-220? I already have an Intuos4 but hnnnggg £600?
Should I buy a Huion GT-220? I already have an Intuos4 but hnnnggg £600?
why would you buy another tablet if you already own an intuos 4?
why would you buy another tablet if you already own an intuos 4?
'Cause it's a tablet monitor. Just seems like that would be something worth having?
If you're going to spend that much, just get a Cintiq. Wacom are the main brand for a reason. I've heard of people having random issues with Huions. [editline]9th November 2014[/editline] Even some of the reviews on that page are pretty bad.
Don't get anything other than the Cintiq for monitor tablets because if you're a professional digital artist you should be able to invest a bit more into a serious and well established brand and if you're not at that level then there's no reason to get a monitor tablet. Off brand cheap tablets will give you lower resolution, poor color gamut and quality screen panel, poor interface, slow responsiveness, and often worse pressure sensitivities than Cintiqs. The Monoprice for example is a pretty good alternative especially at $400, so if you have that sort of money and want to try it out you could get it on Amazon and just return it if you don't like it.
Whole piece evenly and heavily textured again The eye shoots down to the bottom corner of the drape because it has a)texture b)high contrast c) several strong lines drawing into it d)it's bright red. You've overpowered your figure again Choose a focal area to work up and ease out on irrelevant areas, lose the sharp edges and all the other attention grabbing properties from the blankets around your subjects etc. Your works would be WAY stronger if you didn't treat the whole picture harshly with punch and texture throughout. Same mistakes over and over
Maybe if you showed me some visual examples I might understand what you mean better?
Fair enough! Most of the criticisms about the Huion one were fairly superficial (buttons on the bottom edge of the tablet, no express hotkeys, no eraser) and didn't bother me, or driver issues which, although a pain in the ass, can be gotten over eventually. The screen is apparently great, same pressure sensitivity as the cintiq, just as responsive, etc. We'll see though, I'll at least hold out a bit longer.
While i agree with the second statement (about the focus in the right bottom corner), i see nothing wrong in using texture brushes. Focal areas have almost nothing to do with them, it's all about composition and colours.
Texture attracts attention, it's pretty straightforward theory? I don't think I can explain it to you any more clearly, just look at lilyo's recent pieces if you want proof of how it can disperse focus lol
Don't get anything other than the Cintiq for monitor tablets because if you're a professional digital artist you should be able to invest a bit more into a serious and well established brand and if you're not at that level then there's no reason to get a monitor tablet. We're talking about studies here, not finished pieces. Not to mention that that much focus is irrelevant outside of straight on portrait paintings. You understand the point of studies no? I'm not trying to make a pretty picture, I'm trying to learn how to paint a person. been a little while since i haven't done any concept art, so i'm cleaning the rust off by reviving my D&D illustration project. Baseball girl! Besides the very long bat, anything about perspective, construction, proportion, etc. that I messed up would be helpful to know of. Thanks! EDIT: Updated! Thanks, guys, here's the old one for comparison

Thanks!
I'm not the best person to critique this but something about the lean definitely looks of, could be the shadow? It kinda looks like you selected the upper half of the torso and skewed it. Maybe the back could do with a bit more of a curve in it. The legs also don't seem very feminine but I guess that doesn't really matter seen as she's wearing baggy jeans.
The lighting also doesn't make much sense. You have some sort of backlight from the left which suggest some sort of spotlight, but the lower right leg is lit even though it should be mostly blocked by the other which indicates the light source as bellow, but at the same time you also have her top lit which obviously indicates the light source is above which makes me think you wanted a strong sunlight which wouldn't make much sense since her entire upwards facing section (torso) is in the shadow. The most important part you should concentrate on is obviously the drawing aspect though cause Wickerman is right it looks very skewed, the head and left arm especially seem to shoot to the left too much, almost like she is trying to lean on the but it's way too far to the left and she's hanging there awkwardly and not very balanced. Her right foot also looks a bit deformed, but these are all basic drawing problems that you'll get better at as you start being able to visualize bodies better with practice. As for the lighting issues a good quick way to get a light source is to build a small model from a kneaded erases or putty or something and then put a lamp on it and get a basic understanding of how it would work overall.
Working on this piece, had this in the back of my head since some time, so wip.

It looks inspired by the FN SCAR? [editline]11th November 2014[/editline] This is a character and weapon I would love to make in 3d.
how does it walk
It can't, I'm planning on changing the hips. I'm actually watching a video class by the guy who did the mechs for Hawken. It's all about hinges and stuff Edit: Also just drew a witch doctor for Sketch_dailies
Do you have a link for that? Sounds interesting.

It's the new version of the H610 Pro and has a built in SD card to save your work on the tablet + you can always return it if you don't like it and get it from amazon.
aye huion is the one thanks guys i got an intuos4 medium like 2 years ago, one with the detachable usb cable, but it was a piece of shit. the removable cable was super flimsy. i got it replaced twice and it's still shitty so i've been using an old bamboo for the last year
Um if you've had a Intuos 4 and didn't like it then a Huion won't be an upgrade in any way, in fact you'll probably hate the surface texture. I have an Intuos 4 Medium I've been using for a few years and I would never use a Huion over it for any reason lol. I have no idea how you like the bamboo better, they're so awful once you get used to the Intuos.

Well that's obviously not an inherent problem with the Intuos tablets themselves, you just got a bad one (or three?). I'm just saying the Huion will not be on the same level as the Intuos if you've gotten used to an Intuos.
