And i still use my 3 years old bamboo. Still fits my unfussy needs though.
I love having an absolutely ancient (like ten years old) graphire tablet and managing to get drivers and basic functionality working, because I get to imagine I'm some old homeless guy playing a crappy guitar under a bridge somewhere watching businessmen pass by while I work, compared to all the sleek new tablets out there
I have an 8 years old Intuos 3 black edition, still working like a charm :)

wow it's like I'm your OC or something
doesn't matter I say you'll still filter it through the voice of Vegeta or some other over the top asshole character lmao
The fuck is going on?
so it's not really a specific thing i've taken up but I've always kinda liked drawing randomly designed but also themed shapes and objects and what not and it kinda applies to a lot of art forms
today, i had to make borders for some post-it notes with electrical tape so it'll stay + not JUST be a post-it note, cuz that tacky. it ended up becoming this:

I'm working on this sword concept, would like some feedback, do you guys like the silhouette? What about the paint itself? When it's finished I'm going to model it and put it in Skyrim.
There are some gaming laptops that aren't too pricey that have pretty good displays and high resolutions, but they're usually really chunky and have huge power bricks.
And there are even 4k laptops for people who really want it, seems a bit overkill for me though.
gaming laptops never have good displays. unless we're talking about the IGZO razer blade
[editline]14th November 2014[/editline]
if you attend a university that has a colorimeter/calibration device do yourself a favour and borrow it for half an hour and calibrate your laptop display. unless you have like a razer or macbook pro there's a slim chance you're getting colour accurate results
even if you have a TN display, it can still help
True, TN panels aren't great even on nicer laptops. I just was thinking more in regards to just brightness, corner bleed, and display angle compared to cheaper laptops.
Even with a good calibrator you won't really be able to use a laptop with a shit display for visual and graphical work, the difference will be just too big between it and a proper display. If you offset the default saturation for example you can get better blacks and lights but obviously everything will be much more saturated on regular IPS displays and the colors all off. TN panels are the devil

Monitors is one of those things I really should and want to spend a lot of money on, but whenever it comes to it the cost of two good monitors just isn't justifiable to my pocket.

buy one of those catleap korean IPS monitors and try to borrow a calibrator somewhere. when they're calibrated they're pretty amazing for editing work and won't exactly blow the bank relative to some of the more established colour accurate monitors
i personally wouldn't buy one for build quality reasons (which is why i roll with dell) but they're excellent if you don't really mind that tradeoff
[editline]14th November 2014[/editline]
just don't get a 6bit + FRC monitor when 90% of the time for the same price you can get a true 8 bit depth monitor

if it's a TN, it's practically a dud for any kind of professional colour space work

Once 1440p hits around $250 for a good IPS panel I might just have to grab one, or maybe just wait till 4k hits $500.
At the end of the day, it's better to push your monitor as close as you can get it if you can't afford a high quality one. My monitor was a cheap AOC one, TFT panen. The cat pissed on it and I rinsed the entire thing out with water and left it to dry for a while - still has visible transparent mineral deposits that you can notice if you've got a white screen up. It doesn't display colours perfectly, but with some sight-calibration using QuickGamma, none of my colour prints have ever looked noticeably different.

I don't really feel like I should say this about something I'm posting, but I'm not proud of this one. I'm trying to push perspective, and while that turned out okay-ish (don't get me wrong, it has major perspective problems, but it's far better at that than any of my other pictures), I'm coming to terms with the fact that I really don't like the way I draw, especially the way I turn sketches into finished pieces. So alongside practicing fundamentals I'm going to be studying my favorite artists and trying to see what they do that I like. hrrlrbbhrhrlghlhrlh
Hopefully you can expect something different from me soon!

oh god the dragon goes back to the horizon
I had similar issues (still do to some extent) about my drawing in itself, I hated my own style and had a horrendous time developing drawings further. It's not easy to change what you do, but what you do WILL get better over time. Eventually
my drawing style hasn't really changed much from the beginning iirc, but I can use it better than before. if you persevere I expect you'll find the same outcome

WIP charcoal Aliens drawing for an art class.
Sry about the picture quality
Your picture should never ever look like a half-finished jigsaw, fill in your areas of value for the whole thing to begin with
(not to mention drawing spheres are boring stuff like that, idk what your teacher is doing making you draw soldiers and aliens)
Which software should I go with my Intuos Pro tablet? I'm using GIMP at the moment.
Going back to boring apples because I forgot how to paint with Photoshop.

Oh god how do I anything.
Time to make a return trip to Ctrl Paint.

He isn't, I just wanted to draw something aliens related since i never really do and he gave us one project where we were allowed to make a drawing based on anything.
Also about the values, whenever i fill it in fully i can never erase to get the contrast bright enough so I was only filling in parts I was sure I wasn't gonna want bright, you think I need a new eraser or maybe the paper (since I've already tried like 3 different erasers)?
New pencil and better paper if you can't erase it well. Start out with a lighter area and add the darks later. Shading with pencils should work the same as with an ink or watercolor wash in layers.

blarghh
well, if anything, I got some proper watercolour papers t paint on at least.
Sorry but it looks like you dont know how to paint. You should drop your own personal drawings and paint from observation to improve your technique first.
