White is a terrible background to draw against. It has too much contrast and distorts the colors and values in your image too much. First thing you learn when you paint is you want to cover up the white of the canvas as soon as possible to be able to accurately portray whatever you're painting since the color of something will always be relative to its surroundings. Working with even a half tone grey will help.

Drawing on white is fine, 95% of sketchbooks have white pages lol it's not just printer paper If you're going to PAINT fruit and stuff on white, then place your subject on a piece of white paper irl so that the colours and shadows and bounced light and everything looks correct. e.g. (ignore the poorly done shadows these are pretty old now): Otherwise draw a frame within the page and paint the background/surface. the above way is easier if you don't want to worry about composition as well
A little study never hurt anyone. [sp]Hello old friends[/sp]
A little study never hurt anyone. -art- [sp]Hello old friends[/sp]
Yep. There's that familiar feeling of wanting to quit art forever. [sp]seriously though that's awesome[/sp]

Youre basically saying you can paint on white as long as what youre painting has a white background. The reason something like a halftone grey will work better usually is because generally speaking when youre painting something theres a much bigger chance of the background being around a halftone as opposed to a contrasted black or white. Im just saying as a thing to keep in mind of course.

White on a digital artwork is pure white. They're not the same.
so????? [editline]20th November 2014[/editline] be fucking descriptive
it's misrepresentative of the actual background lighting contribution
The only reason that works is because youre literally using the white of the paper as the actual background since theyre the same thing... Youre basically saying you can paint on white as long as what youre painting has a white background.
Yes, that's exactly what I said? if you only have white paper sketchbooks and you want to study fruit (or whatever object) put it on paper irl. "the only reason that works" makes it sound like I accidentally get away with it, it's a SOLUTION to the problem of painting isolated things on white for practice, it works for a completely valid reason obviously halftone papers are better to work with but mid grey sketchbooks are lots more expensive than plain white ones and you have to go further to find them typically, so you might not want to bother.
White paper is a very light grey in practice because it gets shaded from the light around it. White on a digital artwork is pure white. If it was "pure white" or white of a high brilliance browser pages would blind computer users Anyway you can change your canvas colour for digital artwork idk if you were aware of that there's usually a colour palette or wheel or box or something on the side. but thanks for that bit of trivia anyway lol

Working on a propaganda video about if the last world war was a great water gun battle.
And if any of you cunts came to the hangout, you coulda seen it first hand. Srsly this looks awesome now that I can actually see it animate.
One more day or so and I should have this completed. I fucked up the count a little bit, but unless you really count pixels you can't see it (I had to check the entire perimeter twice over just to find my mistake). [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/Oe2rYRa.jpg[/thumb] I apologize if the daily-or-so updates are bothersome. I didn't see anything in the rules sticky (I only just started posting in this section), but if it annoys you guys I'll just post the finished stitch.
im actually doing a cross-stich myself will share next week when its probably ready im also doing book binding not sure how that will turn out but i will post results whenever i get that done
im actually doing a cross-stich myself will share next week when its probably ready im also doing book binding not sure how that will turn out but i will post results whenever i get that done
I'm still in the learning process, and every new stitch project I do I try something I haven't done before. This is why I like doing small projects because if something isn't working how I like it I can be quickly done with it and on to trying something new.

You're just copying the sprites wholesale, right? It just seems like a very inefficient copying method, not really your own work
i think its fun itself doing handcrafted things i dont think there would be point for me to do a lot of these but its fun to do silly things every now and then for a chance im making a xmas decoration for something

I'm not trying to sell this shit or anything. This is for me more than anything else, I just wanted to share. I work a stressful full-time job and this keeps me calm during the busy seasons (like now).
Well sure, that's fine and good, I just personally think you should reserve posting it for when you do your own "pixel" art with it or at least employ the already-made sprites into something more dynamic, because right now there's really not much to say about them besides "yup, that's definitely that one sprite of Ridley"
I do actually have plans for a piece utilizing some of the sprites from Home Alone on the NES (more dynamic, as you said), so I guess I'll just hold off on posting anything else until I get that done.
