The mirror in the back has to be a regular mirror and the one in the front a transparent mirror right? .
yup. they are also the most expensive part of the project.
and yeah, you should go ahead and make one. it's an awesome little project and if you ever get bored of it you could just sell it.

thanks mako! :D
For someone who's afraid of visualisation of planets with large expanses of space, I would have thought an infinite mirror would be like staring death in the face.

weird, i'm afraid of planets too. like really afraid. i have to close my eyes whenever i see a large res picture.
but this isn't really scary tbh, it's more interesting than scary. it is kind of unsettling though if you keep staring at it for too long.
Yeah it was you I was talking about :P What do you have planned for it? Wall piece, table or??
[editline]24th November 2014[/editline]
Does your phobia mean you can't go see films like interstellar? And does KSP become a horror game? Sorry for the questions I'm just curious.
i'm going to give this a sci-fi prototype-y aesthetic. like some post apocalyptic mad scientist look.
yup. i can't even play spore.
Man that fucking sucks!
You tried a shrink or anything? Seems like an unusually limiting phobia - considering the amount of Sci-Fi stuff us internet folk are prone to encountering. Films too.
That's weird, I get freaked out thinking about the vastness of space and how there could be literally anything approaching from any direction at any speed
I remember I was playing KSP and flying towards the moon, and accidentally hit the time acceleration button and it grew to like 80% of the screen instantly, I shrieked considerably
I will never touch space engine
This kind of thing must be something spatially minded people are more prone to suffer from
The mirror in the back has to be a regular mirror and the one in the front a transparent mirror right? I'm totally making one over winter break. I feel like it'd be awesome to get one of those remote controlled light sequencers and program them to something like a Hans Zimmer soundtrack and see how that would look.
ive been toying with a similar thing. i have these LED spots on my monitor that light up according to the pixels on the edges of the screen and the software i use for it has visualizers and stuff. i would love to build one of these mirrors with it

if you're curious about the setup, WS2801 LEDs controlled with an arduino and Ambibox/Processing scripts

that's rad as heck, menter. i really wanna do one of those now

holy shit making an infinity mirror with that thing would be fucking sweet
the lights are relatively cheap, a strip of 50 (and they're very strong at max brightness) is about 25 quid on ebay. you can get ones that stick on as a roll, i use bullet shape ones that are cabled.

vs. [t]http://imgkk.com/i/gexh.png[/t]
the strip ones take soldering at each corner to connect the strand, and they're fixed length, but since it's unlikely you'll be reusing them they're perfect for an infinity mirror
[editline]24th November 2014[/editline]
oh yeah, i think you'd enjoy a particular scene in interstellar (if not most of the movie). it's very akin to the whole infinity mirror thing
I made Nazi Propaganda [sp]in the Wolfenstein universe[/sp]
[T]http://i.imgur.com/iEzaJkR.png[/T]
it irked me really hard to use the Wolfenstein font so I did
i think you should shrink the font so you can centre it within the black bar

Some Judge Dredd art:

I tried to do some more detailed line-shading like you see in some of the comics, and boy is my hand sore.
stuff I'm aware of:
- Scale between Hershey and Anderson not great
- Hershey's legs cut off for no good reason
- Perspective on outstretched hand weak
Well the drawing's not great for the reasons you mentioned, but I read THE LAW as though Mr. Stallone himself was screaming it at me, so good job there.
Maybe you should use the same font for 'bled dry' as you did for 'the day'.
It's also a little hard to tell where the light source is. Nothing besides the jumpsuits and Hershey's hair are highlighted, and the highlights don't seem to face any direction in particular.
I've been working on this for a bit now, and I'm near completion. Does anyone have feedback on it? Trees in foreground or no?
Trees
[IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/kc7VXOU.png[/IMG_thumb]
Or no trees?
[IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/VYORMxs.png[/IMG_thumb]
With trees except for the closest one on the left.
Something about it is distracting.
the light is hitting it at an odd angle and as a result, it's both striking and not completely cylindrical to the eye
the light is hitting it at an odd angle and as a result, it's both striking and not completely cylindrical to the eye
Yeah, I definitely see that. Especially considering that all of them are the same tree. It's nice to have some fresh eyes looking at it. Thanks for the feedback, any more thoughts on the painting would be appreciated
I think I need to work on my brush strokes
Needs something in the fg but you've not used the trees very well
also personally not a fan of just slapping paint directly onto a photo but hey ho
slapping paint onto a photo is how many matte paintings start though

Yeah, I was planning on going to sleep and needed something quick to settle on before bed. I'm going to see what I can do with the fg
It's more paint than photo, but photo-bashing is a very common practice. I try my best to stay away from it, but having it as a skill increases the likelihood of being hired nowadays.
Doing that without learning more important base skills and knowledge will make it a crutch, not a "skill"
If you learn to paint (w/ proper perspective and so on) you'll just be able to do that without practicing it per se because it's the same theory, same everything.
Anyway I'm not saying don't do it. just said I wasn't a fan of it.
if you need to do it to make your pieces look passable it'll show like a motherfucker, be warned - become a badass in your own right first and then use it to speed up jobs later if you feel the need.

I understand. I never painted before I started this digital stuff, so it's more so I can apply texture and block out composition easily without having to fuss around with it for hours. I used to do a lot of line work, so texture doesn't come easily
I haven't drawn in forever properly, like over 3 or 4 years. I wasn't good then, but I was at least keeping busy. Most I've done recently is little doodles. I've had a bit of yearning to draw or do digital painting again, but since I'm starting "fresh," I'd like to get into good habits. So I've been watching several hours of videos on drawing and concepts and finally got around to drawing this evening. I spent about an hour on this, just messing about with light and shade, trying to keep the head based somewhat on a human skull. He's not a terribly interesting looking character, but to be honest, with all the theory I've been trying to soak in, he's better than anything I've ever drawn before (speaking pragmatically, not taking the "woe is me, I'm trying to be an artist" attitude). Figure drawing and character creation is what I'm most interested in, so I'd like to get heads figured out first.

My linework's super messy, but I spent most of the hour or so scribbling and experimenting with different brushes, to see how I could get shading done. I drew this in Krita, it's an open-source digital painting program. Only used soft-edged round brushes for this. I just stuck with an expressionless face to see if I could get the structure of the face somewhat correct, with realistic proportions.
I drew this from memory/imagination, no reference photos. Just tried to absorb the information I had watched and listened to and put it into practice. I've tried drawing skulls before in a few perspectives, like front, left and oblique (?), so this helped a bit. I guess next time drawing from a reference would be better to build up my skills that way.
I've tried to draw without using heavy guides too much, the only lines I drew really were for the chin and the top of the head, so my proportions are possibly a bit off. Contrasting tones, I need a bit of help with - he looks a little bit flat, can't quite think myself on how to change that. I feel that maybe there'd need to be darker tones near the nose and under the cheeks, maybe. Probably make the lips a bit less thinner as well.
Any other comments and critiques would be greatly appreciated, I'd love to get back into drawing and to do it right. You're dealing with a more or less a novice in me, so fire everything you want!
It seems weird that you've define the cheekbone on the left and not so much on the right, maybe lighten the values a little on the left cheekbone too. His face seems a little squished but I don't know if that's because of the length of his nose or you've made his lower jaw go too far down. His chin is definitely too big. Other than that looking good for a first foray back into drawing.
Some really quick girl i did yesterday. Because i felt like drawing girls.

Cool, yeah. Think I defined it without thinking too much and just decided to lol go with it. He did have a bit of a super hero chin-face going on, so I've fixed that up. Messed a bit with values as well, hopefully he looks less flat now.

Also started drawing a side on view of the same guy, which is rather intimidating. Any other critiques and comments would be appreciated. I think I've made him a bit more human looking!
