what would you guys say about this? I dropped my "alien" girl, now drew this, this is my very colour painting/drawing, tell me how I did or if you got any tips for the future.
So I was digging around in my art folder and found an old photo study.
Very blurry and muddy, took me a while to make out what the painting was supposed to be at first. I suggest using the default hard circle brush as apposed to those textured and soft brushes for now- don't get me wrong texture brushes are very useful, but you should try to block out the shape of the character with hard edges before moving into details like that. I also think you should work on the elements of art value/shape/anatomy/perspective etc a bit. Do some photo or gesture studies; the simple act of looking at something and drawing it is one of the best ways to improve on the basics of art. Don't be afraid to make mistakes either. Trial and error is the basis of human learning and is nothing to be ashamed of so keep it up!! If you can't think of anything to paint there's entire websites made specially for value studies among countless other useful art related things. I'm jealous of the amount of spare art time you seem to have joqqy I wish I could sit at home and just do piece after piece :/ Nice stuff by the way

Drawing isn't really my thing, but I try to stimulate the other half of the brain as well.
Drawing isn't really my thing
I am questioning your judgement
Drawing isn't really my thing.
!?!?!?!?!??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I was just about to ask if you had a deviant art or some other page you post your art on because I absolutely love your work, how long have you drawn for?
quickie
mind if I ask you guys ( all of you ) how many years you've been drawing? (digitally and in general)
Digitally about 3 years. I've been doodling my whole life though. I only recently tried rendering and realism.
Forgive me if this is a bit self indulgent but I'm interested to look back myself at what I've done. I started primarily making maps in Valve Hammer. I moved on to a bunch of 3D stuff in Blender and Maya, mostly emulating painting in the composition and use of imagery (1, 2, 3). I didn't study art at high school or anything, which was something that perhaps I should have done. I played with drawing but it wasn't all that good. I was drawing a bit of stuff but it wasn't great (1, 2) the year before I left for art school. Realised I needed to get a portfolio together to get into art school, so I started working harder on technical stuff (1). In my fourth year at art school now and I'm still improving in ways that make me pretty happy (1). Are you thinking of getting into art?
Wait... I think I'm getting something wrong here, what exactly is rendering?
Wait... I think I'm getting something wrong here, what exactly is rendering?
I'd explain rendering as being the process of taking a line drawing and pushing it further, using either colour or greyscale to show light and shadow, texture of a surface, etc.

Are you thinking of getting into art?
In a way yes. I'm planning to do a games animation and visual effects course at uni. The art bit was kind of a "must have", so I started drawing 7 months ago, literally from scratch. If my drawings go good I want to try realism cause I also want to do 3D modelling.
You don't have to start with a line drawing though; it's more a description of the process of putting light, shadow, texture, etc into a painting. I'd use it like; 'You could probably render that image out a bit further' (i.e., you could work on it more to improve the light/shadow/texture/etc), or 'That image is really well rendered, and so on
mind if I ask you guys ( all of you ) how many years you've been drawing? (digitally and in general)
Technically I've been drawing for the last 9 years, but I've only been serious about drawing well for the last couple years. And I've been working with a tablet for about a year and a half now.
Keep in mind this is the price he wants to pay, not the maximum price he can go for. You can most likely knock up the price some if you want to. But that's up to you.
I second this, nice thing about non commissions is you can negotiate price. You could probably ask him to bump it up 100 and I would bet he would go for it. If not you can negotiate in the middle, people don't barter enough these days I find.
planning on doing a big thing in this style, of course, in a well done form.
I could be doing these all day.
These would make for some nice dualpanel wallpapers

I've been trying to find a good reference for this stone arch here but google didn't gave me the examples I'm looking for.
mind if I ask you guys ( all of you ) how many years you've been drawing? (digitally and in general)
Digitally? Almost never. I don't know why but it's hard to draw anything while having to pay attention to the tablet and the monitor at the same time. Generally, though? Six years, when I took it really seriously. Has been going well, especially since I've been lurking here
Trying to come up with some more character designs for the comic I'm trying to make He's kinda the main character's coach for the beginning of the story.
mind if I ask you guys ( all of you ) how many years you've been drawing? (digitally and in general)
Hmm, well I'm 16 years old now. So digital painting/drawing would make about 4 years. I've been doodling all my life, when I was about ~10 years old I got introduced to Macromedia flash in which I did a lot of animation, I was obsessed with animation as a little kid. Always wanted to become an animator.. From my 12th I got interested in digital art but it was only from my 14th that I got really serious and started studying art, I learned all of my stuff by my own studies (self taught) or by watching the very educational videos of Feng Zhu, Ctrlpaint and Sinix. Hopefully that gives you some insight :v:
mind if I ask you guys ( all of you ) how many years you've been drawing? (digitally and in general)
About a year and a half. And about a year of editing my garry's mod screenshots before I actually started to draw.
I've been working with GMOD on and off for about six years (join date coincides) and have been painting on and off for less than a few months total. I'm not much of a doodler either.
Chilly morning painting. I'm kind of biased on this one myself..
Have you had a lot of work in traditional paints? Your attention to colour and impasto texture is astounding
Have you had a lot of work in traditional paints? Your attention to colour and impasto texture is astounding
Not really, actually none at all. But I'm always observing the world around me. I'll be looking at how lights hit the clouds, the colours of objects and why things look the way they do. I try to get a concept of how things work, how the object is 'build' By form, texture and colour wise. Also by studying paintings of other painters you can learn their technique, and learn how they have painted their paintings. Once you get a grasp of that concept painting becomes pretty easy actually. Edit: I'd really love to get to work with traditional media but I have not had the opportunity to.
