Not really, actually none at all. But I'm always observing the world around me. I'll be looking at how lights hit the clouds, the colours of objects and why things look the way they do. I try to get a concept of how things work, how the object is 'build' By form, texture and colour wise. Also by studying paintings of other painters you can learn their technique, and learn how they have painted their paintings. Once you get a grasp of that concept painting becomes pretty easy actually.
Edit: I'd really love to get to work with traditional media but I have not had the opportunity to.
Far out, how long have you been painting? Do you use refs and whatnot?
This thread always inspires me a lot even though I'm a designer not an artist, amazing stuff
!?!?!?!?!??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I was just about to ask if you had a deviant art or some other page you post your art on because I absolutely love your work, how long have you drawn for?
thx Anax, very kind of you.
I guess I have always liked scribbling and sketching, but have never had any idea of doing more than that. I am 21, so I would say, well, as long as most guys in my age(?). From the very mediocre beginning in lower childhood to a little less mediocre now :) As long as one improves, that is a victory. But I will probably never devote a site for it, they are just scribbles.
mind if I ask you guys ( all of you ) how many years you've been drawing? (digitally and in general)
I started messing with pencils like two years ago or thereabouts, and first tried digital around august last year I think.
Wish I could apply myself better, my progress is embarrassing.

Chilly morning painting.
I'm kind of biased on this one myself..
I love the layered look you're getting with these, but in every one the clouds stick out like sore thumbs. Paint them in like everything else and it'll look way better
Is it possible for you to record doing such a painting?
To Maloof?:
Let me just copy and paste this earlier message for you.
''Hmm, well I'm 16 years old now. So digital painting/drawing would make about 4 years. I've been doodling all my life, when I was about ~10 years old I got introduced to Macromedia flash in which I did a lot of animation, I was obsessed with animation as a little kid. Always wanted to become an animator..
From my 12th I got interested in digital art but it was only from my 14th that I got really serious and started studying art, I learned all of my stuff by my own studies (self taught) or by watching the very educational videos of Feng Zhu, Ctrlpaint and Sinix.
Hopefully that gives you some insight''
I do use references for extracting how something looks, as that is what referrences are for, not to copy, but to extract
To Makoskydub:
Thanks for pointing that out, the clouds have been rather.. Lacking indeed..
Frying Dutchman
Until I get proper internet I cannot unfortunately :(
I would like to do that in the future though!

I've still got very much to learn, thanks nonetheless, I'm working hard for it!
[editline]9th May 2013[/editline]
Hey guys I've got an honest question here, I'm looking to do some intern stuff to the side at some game development studios, you guys think I got a chance?
Everyone who can show that he has experience and a solid base to work from has a chance.
You being 16 might pose a problem or be the opportunity to get in, really matters where you apply.
They key thing they search for in game development studios or similar is that you can collaborate and work well in teams.
In short, go for it. None is stopping you

So far I've seen nothing from you but mountains and clouds. If you have the flexibility with your skills to do characters, objects, other a variety of environments I'd say hell yeah.

I am in the mountain study phase. :v:
They are too much fun to paint. But I'll start doing some more variety soon enough.
Is Intuos4 good for someone who has never drawn digitally like me?
If yes, which one will be the best, because apparently, there are up to 4 models of it?
If no, why?
[editline]9th May 2013[/editline]
And what do you recommend?

If you're sure you'll use it a lot, go for it. I believe the Intuos 5 is newer and better though? Anyways, if you're not totally sure you'll stick with digital vs traditional media I'd start with a bamboo tablet, as they're much cheaper and still very serviceable for a digital tablet. I'll let the professionals weigh in, though.

are you calling me fat
Oh dear just checked out the price and the Intuos4 Medium is 10 millions in my currency :suicide:

10 900 000 Vietnamese dong = 523.2 U.S. dollars
Sounds alright, the large costs like 1100 $ in norway.
So, twice the cost, yay norway.

Get an intuos/graphire
Differences in quality since the 3 series have been really minimal from what I've seen and graphires should be very reasonable now.

*crys* Anatomy, study anatomy its the first thing you get told to do if you post on here, even if you post a house.
Anyway, shoulders are way too slanted and large, the arms are too long and legs too short. Also the head is too small...also the lighting don't make too much sense either. If you want something to use as guidance, Andrew Loomis, seriously, I know its what everyone says, but thats because he made very good guides.

Yeah, I noticed that AFTER I shaded, so I was like "fuck it".
As for the head, I thought I was doing something called foreshortening (?) so the head kinda gets shorter at the chin and longer at the forehead? But I'm still suck at absolutely everything so I might be wrong.
I only read Andrew Loomis once, the PDS, but it was poorly scanned and the words were really small, so I followed Stanislav Prokopenko instead, he esentially "simplified" Adrew Loomis rules.
I'll make sure almost everything will look find in the next one. Sorry :(

Anyone here especially works with textures, bumpmaps, lightnings and things like those in Photoshop? This is not the right place to talk about it so if you are and would like to aid me in make using Photoshop's powerful tools, please add me on Steam.
