Working on it. Next'll be a robotic FBI agent.
nhnhnhnghhg i can't wait until you get to making the comic itself i'm just such a huge fan of this stuff along with galactopticon
Liked this a lot more when I did it earlier, whatever
Yep. The perspective is way off unless the houses are slanted on the branches. I do love the colors, though.
I imagined it more in 2d. Like pseudo pixel art (because I can't do pixel art)
What do you think? [Img_thumb]http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7285/8742400998_332c6cfcb3.jpg[/img_thumb] It's a painting i made, it uses the Fibonacci numbers, and it's supposed to be a sunflower.
Could i get some critique on this? It's my first painting, so i want to improve.
Didn't come out as i wanted it to. Carry on. :(
I love the forms of the mountains. Clouds, instead of adding depths into the painting, flattens it. I'm also not a fan of strong vignetting effects around the bottom corners, but, if you think it works for you, then just ignore this. Holy fuck you could have saved as jpg12 instead of a bloody huge png.

Carry on. :(
Well as a first improvement, the clouds are way out of perspective. Also, clouds don't work that way, go for volumetric fog at this scale because such tiny clouds and a mountain look weird.

i am indeed. very exciting stuff but the workload is scaring the shit out of me at the moment
i am indeed. very exciting stuff but the workload is scaring the shit out of me at the moment
Ah that's awesome, a friend of mine is following it too. Heard it's quite a lot of work yes. However I bet it's gonna pay off amazing. [IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/k7CLXXL.jpg[/IMG_thumb] I haven't done any environment paintings lately as I've been focusing on other stuff to become as versatile as possible in my designs/paintings. But I decided to do one for fun.
Could i get some critique on this? It's my first painting, so i want to improve.
the colours are good, you didn't paint outside the lines, it looks nice in an abstract-wallarty way this is a pretty dead-ended piece though, it doesnt help unless you tell us what you want to improve towards
what is this art camp? Do I have to bring a sleeping bag
what is this art camp? Do I have to bring a sleeping bag
Noah Bradley; an amazing digital artist/concept artist has got this art summer camp that's really intensive but really pushes your artistic talents, so said at least. Here's a link: http://www.noahbradley.com/artcamp/
I just replaced my old Intuos4 Medium with a brand new Intuos5 Medium for free cause my teacher didn't want the new model lol. Anyone else have it? Is there any reason the activate area is like, a rectangle within the surface area? It seems weird, even though it's the same area as the old one. I guess it feels a bit smoother this way. Kind of weird that they released a new model with the same exact specs though. Not complaining, it's fucking sexy.

Here's a link: http://www.noahbradley.com/artcamp/
Oh man I wrote this great reply to your post but for some reason it didn't send. I basically said; Been following Noah for a while, he's great, camp sounds awesome but I'm hard core studying my real degree at the moment, thanks for the link, peace out
Another pic, accidentally large as fuck again, however. Sketched two busts for some experimental character designs I've had floating in my head for a week now. Went the more cartoon-ish route this time around. I kinda experimented with my drawing style for the guy, and then did whatever came natural for the girl. The girl ended up looking a little cleaner as a result, though i think her outfit is a bit bland. But hey, I don't really plan on doing much with them. Maybe just a few sketch exercises now and again, so they might show up here a few times.
Both their right eyes seem to be a bit farther than they should.
Both their right eyes seem to be a bit farther than they should.
Well, shit. [editline]17th May 2013[/editline] Thanks for pointing that out though! Went back and drew the right eyes again real quick Honestly I like both placements.

However; other than the noses, their faces look pretty flat. Try not to feather your lines too much either. Long, quick strokes tend to look better and build some muscle memory in your hand to make drawing that much easier. also, have this little guy.
Looks much better imo. However; other than the noses, their faces look pretty flat.
Thanks! Though Im not so sure what you mean by flat faces? I guess absence of facial shading? I do need to work on that.
Try not to feather your lines too much either. Long, quick strokes tend to look better and build some muscle memory in your hand to make drawing that much easier.
OH, no this wasnt supposed to be detailed; it was just a draft sketch i got a bit carried away with. Wasn't really minding my general line quality unless it looked like utter shit.
gaddamnit, my bag was stolen today (they most likely thought it was a laptop), but it had all my drawing utensils along with my entire box set of oil paints easily 60- 80 dollars worth of art supplies gone now:v:
I miss being human (I bet it's clickable)
Thanks! Though Im not so sure what you mean by flat faces? I guess absence of facial shading? I do need to work on that.
Flatness basically means the drawing doesn't take in account all 3 dimensions (lineart or otherwise.) It appears as if the eyes/mouth were on a 2 dimensional plane facing directly towards the viewer, yet the ear, nose and jawline indicate that the head is facing off to the right into the distance. Essentially you want the face's perspective and shape to line up with the head's perspective, too. It makes the drawing pop out more and adds much more depth. I made the perspective pretty over exaggerated to try and show what I meant, normally in a portrait the perspective lines would be much farther away from the subject making it less obvious.
a submachine gun that shoots bees the gentleman I was designing it for said he wanted it to look more Combine-y, so here is its subsequent redesign: (personally i like the first design better but im not the one calling the shots now am i)
Looking good man! Second design definitely looks a bit tighter and more reasonable where the orangy glowy pipes are concerned. Just by looking at it, I don't get the sense that it shoots bees. Perhaps looking at the actual shape of beehives (both the cliched ones and the realistic ones), the shape of honeycomb, etc, would help in really constructing something that gives the impression right away that this is related in some way to bees. Think about 'how do you load the gun' and things like that. Does it have a 'reverse' switch that you can use to suck bees up into a chamber as a means of reloading? Do you carry around little honeycomb-lined containers that have bees in that act like magazines? These are just my thoughts. I have not really a lot of formal education in design, but I'm working on it, so take my words with a pinch of salt. [SUB][SUB]yeuck salt[/SUB][/SUB] Congrats on getting a gig! Are you getting paid? [editline]17th May 2013[/editline] also my advice depends on what sort of style the guy is looking for; if it's a hard, dark sci fi (Alien/Matrix) then perhaps dark metal honeycombs for a real artificial 'home' for the bees. If it's a TH89-style quirky-ass sci fi, then perhaps similar to where you're at now [editline]17th May 2013[/editline] In terms of visual association that comes with the shapes you've used, for instance, the scaley red bits look more dragon/lizard/dinosaurish than bee-like
