To quote Loomis, "Don’t start out with that old gag, “I couldn't draw a straight
line.” Neither can I, freehand. If we need a straight line, we
can use a ruler."
[editline]18th May 2013[/editline]
Saying people never use rulers with traditional media is incorrect, and gives the wrong message imo. Focus more on line confidence than line straightness.

I made it messy on purpose but is it maybe a bit too messy?
I've looked at it for so long i can't tell.

R.I.P the horror manga thread from which I know what that means
Amazing idea/design that last one sprock
And I agree completely with maloof, your bg and subject values are so low contrast that it's a bit frustrating to look at them, they almost get lost
[editline]18th May 2013[/editline]
Here, added some very quick lighting, just so that your lovely brushwork actually comes through in a tangible way
[t]http://i.imgur.com/2njlMtg.jpg[/t]
That actually does look, like five times better
Glad to have helped, I'm a big fan!
Anyway, dunno

i work smaller than they're displayed here hence the somewhat blurriness. probably gonna set my brush sensitivity to a minimum of 50% for the next set

plague doctor type guy idk
these must be very relaxing to do.
kinda. on one hand they're relaxing because they're quick to do (although i need to go faster) but on the other hand they're a little bit stressful, at least for me, because i'm constantly doing the hardest bit of every painting - the start
i find laying in the first colours and values to be the most stressful part of a painting because you have to think about it a lot and if you fuck it up the whole thing will be fucked up. i find painting detail to be relaxing because i can just switch off and zone out
that said, these little thumbnails are really satisfying to do
If you like doing frederich church do edgar payne or any of the california impressionists but I assume you already know that
they're on the (massive) list!
haha, what art school do you go to chesty?

i study game design at futureworks which is a pretty kickin rad school for that (it's basically the uk equivalent of digipen at this point) but that doesn't offer me as many excuses to paint as i thought it might, so this summer i'm on the noah bradley art camp which is proving to be really brilliant so far
I've made a drawing schedule for myself, it has studies, speedpaints etc. Today was character design day and I made this guy up

All crits are welcome of course.
I decided to have a go at converting some models to SPACEMAN ZOMBIES with Green Stuff (2 piece modelling putty, used for custom modelling), and I thought it turned out quite well. Here's a banner carrier, banner to be added later.

I was inspired by several posts on the internet after looking for an interesting paint scheme that wasn't the boring sickly greens of the Death Guard, and dug up a splinter of those guys called the Lords of Decay, pretty neat, and I love their logo.

Am I the only one who thinks that it looks like the Silent Hill logo? Anyways, an interesting conversion, found here: http://papanurgle.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=801 made me have a go at it.

Glad to hear it! Just a couple weeks, and I should probably have lifted my butt from my chair and gone to Games Workshop.
I did some stuff this semester. Sorry about the weird sizes (not sorry enough to change them though I'm tired as balls)

I'm trying to just do a 'drawing a day' kind of thing, looking for constructive criticism, some will be doodles, and some will be all day projects, depending upon my busy-ness. I don't want to make a thread for just keening my skills. I was offered an apprenticeship at a local tattoo shop, that is very well known, so I would very much appreciate it if you guys would help me out, because as i'm in the beginning steps of my apprenticeship, I'm not doing much art in the shop, more cleaning and other shop bitch duties. :)
(as I keen my skills, I will post threads, larger projects etc)
This is Day #2, I drew this in my friends notebook while she did her homework, I only had a black bic pen and red green and blue inkjoy pens.

Try looking up some photos of skulls, or some anatomy books to see how yours differs in form and proportion from them. To draw effectively from your head you basically have to force-feed your brain as much visual information about the subject as possible beforehand.

Church's paintings are so intimidatingly meticulous to look at, it's madness. Ambitious pick for speed studies :v:

I tend to use visual memory when im drawing skulls, which unfortunately, gives me a habit of certain ways of drawing skulls that I need to break
