How is 300€ cheap? Or do you mean annually?
300€ for 3 years in a school like Art Déco in either Paris or Strasbourg which are some of the best art school in Europe seems really cheap to me
affordable to anyone tbh, an undeclared low-wage salary for one month is usually around 700€ here
+ you can get into these schools for literally no fee at all, there's so many reasons that makes it so you can get the school fees paid for you in a country like france. if you performed good during school, if your parents don't make much, if you come from a poorer place, if you're foreign, etc...

Did a master study last night. About 2 hours spread over the period between 4pm and 10pm. I did a recording of it too (interspliced with some accidental Quake 3 I'm so sorry) if anybody is interested in a timelapse

Universities are practically free in the UK anyway.

i never understood why art schools are so expensive
it's not like artists will ever be able to pay back their loans

Kinda free coming out.
Hardly free getting in.
If you're going to a public university in New Zealand (which is what the majority of people do unless they want to go to some perceived pretentious private art school like Whitecliffe) you pay like 6 grand a year not including equipment.
As a permanent resident though you can get a student loan that pays for your base course fees and provides you with $1000 to spend on course related costs (text books, stationary, computer stuff, travel, etc). And as long as you're living in New Zealand there's no interest on your loan.
It's pretty sweet but it does limit how much you can travel. If you leave the country for more than 6 months you start to accrue interest. It's also payed back automatically in some cases; if you're earning over a set amount each year (around 20k I think) they'll start to automatically take a small portion to pay back your loan. It's not a lot though and you probably wouldn't notice that it's missing.
same situation in the uk i believe

Something I'm working on, but I'm having troubles with the hair on the left, any and all help/criticism is appreciated.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post something like this.
I don't know how important that is, but I don't believe you're ready to work without reference yet so I advise ditching it and drilling anatomy studies. You can't really guess your way through drawing people, no matter how long you try it things will always be off if you haven't done your homework. Continual preliminary hard work is the only way

£40 off my paycheque for ~30 years? Oh wow I'm devastated, University loans aren't really anything significant in the UK.

I don't get it, it's not exactly as if art schools used to be super popular in the past or something, if you wanted to be a fine arts major you usually went to a university that had a good art program. I mean if we go further back, the traditional approach used to be studying with a master. Communications Design and Illustration/ Cartooning majors are relatively new fields, and I see how easy it is nowadays to study on your own with just the use of a computer.
The point of going to an art school differs from person to person. I'm gonna go cause I'm an unmotivated lazy fuck who needs a lot of serious practice and work as well as being exposed to the influence of other artists and being able to create new connections. I know for a fact that living home with my parents would never work for me, and then renting an apartment somewhere in the city wouldn't give me enough space or motivation to actually work on art in such a confined space. I'm sure art school isn't for everyone, but the 250k + analogy is downright wrong. If you're going to go to RISD or MICA or any such high end expensive, 200K+ school than you better be capable of knocking 100K-150k or so off right from the start with scholarships. My friend is going to MICA and he got like 200k financial packet. Most ivy league universities like Harvard or Cornell are also like that. My friend for example had to go to Cornell because she couldn't afford the other less expensive schools, just cause Cornell gave her an insane amount of money. I'm going to SVA for the total attendance cost of about 40k over 4 years, as I'm not gonna live on campus. For some people living at home or alone and trying to study art part time just doesn't work, and if you have the opportunity to go to a good art school for a relatively cheap price than I'd say definitely go for it.
