A free-for-all FPS where if you get a kill, your health, damage output, speed and accuracy is doubled
Imagine a fast paced FPS. except to move forward you dont just hold W. You have to use the q,w,o,p keys.
Also make it multiplayer.
Imagine it.
An in-game internet browser like in gta.
Exept that it goes to the actual internet :-v
i've seen something like this, but inverted. IIRC, the netcode in Mechwarrior Living Legends used to - somehow - calculate weapon damage and hits based on the shooter's FPS; the shittier your framerate the less effective your guns were. i'm not sure if it was ever fixed, it's been a long time.
i used to play the mod with a mediocre tier campooper, and since the thing ran on CryEngine my larger than life laser cannons didn't do diddly against light scouts, even at point blank range
A lot of games do similar, basically rate of fire is tied to frame-rate and since afaik the lasers are essentially fast-firing guns they do less damage the lower your frame rate. In fact I don't think I know of any games where your weapon can fire faster than your frame rate.

A lot of games do this too, but not quite as bluntly. CoD is probably the most prominent example, the more kills you get the more kills you're able to get because killstreaks. Speaking of MWLL, the Solaris Arena mode (free for all) would have you scoring cash based on damage done and kills, so a well-performing player can get a better mech while a poor performing player will be stuck in a crappy light for a much longer time.

contra hard cops's co-op mode actually has your weapons deal less damage as there are more sprites redered on screen, thus halving your damage output in half.
as far as "what kind of mechanic in a game could bve so bad it could actually hurt you and damage your hardware".

you gain experience points by convincing people that evolution is a myth
Every time you fail a compulsory QTE sequence, a spider is flicked at your face from behind the screen.
If you succeed on the QTE sequence, the same thing happens. You have to buy dlc to make them smaller.

Paddle Battle and Tug o' War would both strongly disagree. Why make it one player that suffers when you can have EVERYONE INVOLVED suffer?
you restore health by absorbing the blood of your enemies, but the blood is represented by a bunch of tiny, fully physically simulated, matte brown pellets that restore 1 hp each and you have to pick each one up individually. the pick-up animation takes three seconds, is impossible to interrupt, and you aren't invulnerable during it.
after the first cut scene in the game there's a message comes up saying "Press any key to watch again."
the only key that works to skip is the power button
An FPS that only has auto-save.
The auto-save only triggers whenever your health crosses the 10% mark and there's a living enemy nearby.
Your character suffers multiple personality disorder, and the personality change is prompted by some immediate context like conversation or the environment. When it changes you lose control of the character and they essentially become an npc while you sit there and hope something comes up that brings it back to you.
Honestly it's kind of an interesting one.
Your character trips and falls if he/she steps on a body
your character has a random chance of slipping in blood
later waves in KF2 would be hell
you character randomly trips out of nowhere ruining your momentum in a figthing game

A game where for the graphics and general game to become better in quality, you must level up stats individually. The gameplay and such would evolve depending on your leveled stats and you could go from a Space Invaders clone, to a Doom clone, to something like an open world RPG.
So basically at the very start of the game it looks like ZX Spectrum vomit, then a couple hours in depending on what you leveled up it looks like a CPS1 game, and so on. You can even have a weird combination of really 1 dimensional gameplay, but good graphics, while the music is playing on an emulated SoundBlaster 16.
And you can finish the game in any state. Sounds pretty cool when I think about it actually.
