https://soundcloud.com/nofuchsgiven/sets/synthwave-and-retro-stuff you might dig some of the stuff here, I've been digging on soundcloud. I haven't even REALLY dug in yet. I'm really lovin #53 by waveshaper atm
also oh god so much work at once I didn't have time to play space engineers or code yesterday+today but I did so here I am I've been studying all day and still have 3-4hrs of hw ;_;
[editline]26th October 2015[/editline]
fuck my case of tiny wires and wee little ICs + resistors + caps just spilled all over my floor :(
[editline]26th October 2015[/editline]
i dropped my ahmed mohamed kit
I'll check it out tomorrow after work, thanks hon.
Also I totally wish I had your capacity for the type of thinking necessary for electrical engineering, but I cannot for the life of me wrap my head around that shit. Coding language eludes me, too. Which sucks because I LOVE technology and I love building circuits and shit but I have to have someone else tell me what to do otherwise I have no idea what I'm doing.
Makes me kinda sad, cause like, I worked for radioshack for three years and I read every single one of the 'how to' and 'engineer's handbooks' and stuff like that, I kept up with that stuff, played with the components, did the little 'assemble it yourself kits' but whenever I tried doing something from scratch I could never get it to work.
At least I enjoy crafting. Carpentry and metalworking and gardening are still fulfilling to me, which is good. I'll have to settle for building beautiful things out of wood and metal instead of circuits and code.

because just following someone elses instruction kits doesn't really work. That stuff doesn't lead to learning, but it can. What you were doing is like trying to learn math by only watching someone else solve problems for you.

torrent the books, im sure they're available. I can vouch for both of them. The hardware... get it if you like what the python course shows you. Take notes on the books, and takes notes on the coursera videos. I have a bunch of courses im in atm but I take it bit by bit as I can, no need to feel rushed.
When you wanted to learn to do carpentry, metalworking, or gardening, did you buy little kits or watch videos but not do it yourself? Baby steps. Teeny tiny babysteps. I started carpentry building a bird house. Metalworking? Key fobs and dustpans. But you just keep expanding. Trying to dive in too deep is a way to scare yourself. Writing your own hello world program or even a program that just adds numbers is exhilarating the first time and teaches you stuff.
There are a tremendous amount of resources out there for learning anything you like. Use em!

Cisko is a smooth mastermind, Janeway is a solid leader with solid princibles, Picard is a fantastic veteran explorer, Kirk is a genius pokerfaced and bold player, and Captain Data could single handedly take over an entire army using a single ship and not even bat an eye.

Okay I'm impressed. I've never met an ST fan who can actually say something nice about every captain(except Archer but he's truly whiny).

people who bitch about Janeway don't understand the benefit of actually listening to the rulebook of starfleet instead of going in and improvising. if Kirk was in Janeways situation his entire crew would have been dead out of being a wreckless shithead
at the same time, if Janeway were in Kirks situations she'd likely be freaking the hell out. The rulebook only goes so far after all. Kirk did what he had to do and he's amazing for it.
Archer was ok, even with his flaws he's literally improvising everything he does. He has no examples and he's setting one at the same time. Any of the other Captains in his situation would literally shrivel and die because they'd have 0 of their inspirations and 0 of their teachers. Except maybe Kirk, because he has nipples of diamond.
Spectre is next weeeek can't waitttt
Oh~ Getting into D&D are we?
I just finished a character last night for a new campaign. Kenku Ranger in a Renaissance era campaign. Former military scout, now working for a paranormal investigation agency.
Playing in another campaign atm with a character I made back in August. Medical doctor disenchanted with human mortality went on a quest to find a way of giving humans elf-like longevity or true immortality. Ended up finding a research tome with a fragment of Hastalyk The Contagion (one of the great old ones) that turned him into a warlock at the price of his sanity. He's slowly losing his mind over the course of the campaign and performing stranger and stranger experiments in the name of finding a way to make humans immortal.
In the game today, he replaced about 60-70% of his blood with Elven blood. Ended up with flu-like symptoms for a week (his Kobold assistant/apprentice took care of him) and got a free proficiency, but also developed a permanent madness and feels compelled to kill. DM said more things will happen as the blood works its way through my body. Can't wait.
That sounds terrible and exciting. How do you make characters/flesh them out anyways? I've got like no idea so I'm just taking stuff from real life people to make mine and seeing what will happen.

Bro I think you misread. I didn't just use the kits, I read all of the books we had for sale too (Engineer's Mini Handbooks volumes 1-4, Getting Started with Arduino, Dummies Guide to Microprocessors, etc etc). I didn't try just learning off kits.
Carpentry I started when I was like 6, my grandpa had a big workshop and he got me into it. He'd let me play with scraps of wood and I made lots of little stuff. Metalworking I got into in high school in shop class.

Start off with what race/class you want, then just work from there and flesh it out. How'd they become what they are, what drives them, what are their goals and ambitions, their flaws, their ideals, their bonds. What makes them tick?
It helps if you love writing like I do. For my Warlock I started writing up logbook entries leading up to when he got infected with the fragment of Hastalyk, then started writing his logbook entries as if he was slowly losing his mind, his research becoming more drastic and mad sciency.
I'm running a Pathfinder game myself, we've got a kobold mercenary with a greatsword who'll kill pretty much anything if you're offering enough money, a lawful evil kobold hunter who rides a dire weasel, an elf arcanist who's gender is unknown and has the strength and durability of wet cardboard but has at least +10 in all knowledge skills, a brawler who doesn't like fighting and has managed to choke out everything they've fought that breaths bar one guy, and a trigger happy gnome alchemist, who firebombed that guy as the brawler was trying to restrain him :v:
I got a 94 on my diff eq exam
highest grade I've ever gotten on a test in uni yet :D
All this love for D&D and Pathfinder, anyone here play GURPS? :downs:
I like its dice system and the flexibility, but after the school group I played it with I haven't come across a single other group in my life.
So after watching a few Let's Plays of it, I've finally decided to hunker down and try SOMA
Gonna need someone to get a blanket and some cocoa ready.
[sp]I'm a massive wimp and get scared of paranormal stuff easily[/sp]
God help me

GURPS is good for fairly mundane settings, but anything too fantastical and it turns into ass I find.
