Not gonna lie this thread has been home to some of the densest posters I've seen when it comes to admitting they could possibly have done something wrong
In general, some people like to think that they know themselves better than others. While in general you do know more about yourself than others do, others can easily know things about you that you yourself don't realize until it gets pointed out to you.
For myself, I'm the kind of person who will take a joke and sort of go with it, which is fine and all. However, some of these little jokes can often bank off of the faults of someone else, a gentle poke more than anything. I never realized it myself until someone told me that I often go too far with some of the things I say. As a result, I can come across as a dick despite not even realizing it. Since becoming self aware of it though, I've been making a bit of a conscious effort to avoid stepping on too many toes.

I've been working on this project for my land surveying class for the past 6 hours and I was almost complete only to realize that my data doesn't work at all. I've spent the past hour alone trying to figure out what to do while trying to make sense of what's written down on all these pages but I've just hit a wall.
It's not terrible if I don't have it completed, but having this done by tonight would be a major plus since I've been stressed about it for the past month.
were shit at followin em though :v
Yeah instead it's 5 warnings, 3 kicks and an hour ban before something happens.

and would you prefer to pay that ungodly fee just to have the development kit for iPhones and accomplish even less?
i think this is so adorable its causing me physical pain
rip trekintosh. what are you working on? more lightning cloud stuff? that was a neat project.
I need somewhere to brag. Parents just sorta nod and say "mmhmm" or ask if I'm really going to improve this quarter. Yeah, I am. At least mentally. I'm not my past, and I've worked my ass off to get to that point. So yeah, instead of continuing to brag I'm going to do work now. Also drink more coffee. I've gone full coffee hipster, too. Thats not exactly progress. Although viva may be proud.
The tornado module is actually under a complete physical refurbishment, I havent had anything electrical to do with it for months. We sawed the frame off with a big-ass bandsaw, leaving just the top. The old wooden frame was warped and slightly rotted, so we're refurbishing it with stronger wood. Additionally, the train tracks were built to an older standard of NTrak(the specific spacing of the tracks designed to let all the modules line up and connect together), so we're upgrading it to NTrak 2000, which lets us ditch the two "conversion" modules on either side of it, since all our other modules are NTrak 2000. The conversion modules are extremely ugly. So we're changing the layout of the track on the Tornado module and while we're at it we're going to touch up a large chunk of the scenery, since it's getting a little tired. But this is all manual labor and detailed scenery, which the android stuff is completely unrelated to.
I'm working on making a gambling app to market to casinos. The idea being that you could do sorts booking, Keno, card games, and table games right on the tablet, or more specifically at a slot machine to double the income. In addition, there's a fully functional food and drinks menu with ordering direct to your current location or to your room, with provisions for ordering the food delivered at a later date, for example, to have food waiting hot at your room as soon as you get back. The idea is to have the hotel check out a tablet for you when you check in. It's served data from a central mainframe server(s) over wifi with NFC for local positioning and a card reader for immediate payment. The main server will stream video feeds(for sports book and live table games) and data(proposition bets, table games, multiplayer) with zero external internet access.
My job is none of that. I'm simply making a... dummy version. An interactive look and feel example, if you will. A pretty face with no brains behind it. All I'm going to do is make something that simulates the app without any external communications. You'll be able to go to the food menu, order prime rib and margaritas, play some fake poker, watch some pre-recorded nascar races and make proposition bets, but it'll all just be a facsimile. Now that doesn't mean it won't be a huge fucking challenge for me. As of today I have 8 days of Android experience, and not much more of Java in general. That's not like Android development experience, that's experience with anything Android at all. So I'm way in over my head and way out of my depth. Also I have only a month to do this whole entire thing. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Also add me on Steam so you can tell me about your rocket physics stuff cause I go absolutely nuts over that kind of thing.

I typed all of this on my phone omg
just take a day or two reading over the google docs and poring over android dev cheatsheets it's not too hard
programming: how well can you google?

I still have to learn what all the code means. I can't just blindly copy and paste, especially not on Android. Gotta figure out what all the Intents and ID's are and how to make them interact properly. I want to do this thing right, not just hodgepodge it together.
First (and definitely the last) time I ever programmed anything significant, it was a spiritual Zork successor done in Java. It was faithful to the Zork style of RPG gameplay while making improvements such as dynamic inventory management on-the-fly that you could access through menus and a dynamic storyline. The code was unfortunately an absolute mess and commented to hell and back, plus some of the assets didn't load correctly when packaged, but it was quite a nice prototype. I unfortunately ended up losing all of the assets in a hard drive crash.
I would like to think it would have been done by now had i not lost it. It wouldn't have meant much to other people as it was somewhat basic, but it would have been a really nice personal accomplishment to have made my own video game.

Thats still pretty neat! Could always go back and use your experience to advance faster, or do better this time. Usually tends to work well. Right now I'm trying to program midi. Its a love-hate relationship. On one hand, I can get 35 year old synths that work with my computer and are controllable from my modern software and hardware.
on the other hand I have to calculate hexadecimal checksums to change and program in every. parameter. And I'm programming a template for 16 knobs, 8 faders, and 16 buttons onto my big fancy midi kb.
hlep
edit: 2 of 8 faders down yay

If I had the time and interest I probably would, but I don't have either at this point in time. I lost almost all interest in the project several months ago, and I've lost a fair amount of my (already vastly limited) Java programming knowledge.

sf me when you wake back up i'll help
I'm having to learn how to make apps for android at college.
I want to murder the people who made android studio, it's such a fucking massive pile of trash.
It just assumes you're running as admin, it just assumes its installed in X place, it just assumes you're not behind a firewall, it just assumes you want to download everything, it just assumes you're already the lord and saviour of coding.
And to make it worse, the thing was blatantly originally coded in Java then ported over to C++ because it uses its Java styled GUI elements and shit.
Like why fucking bother making it in one language then porting it, seriously Google.
Fuck being sick, i feel like a bag of trash. Hopefuly it passes soon.
