i cant think of any reason for us being here that doesnt involve a higher being, otherwise its just an endless saga of being created by something which was created by something. Theres really no point pondering it unless you like to, without further scientific research or a conflict there is no answer.
I take that back. Considering I'm agnostic, I don't believe nor disbelieve in a higher being but... I do have a feeling that this let's say "system" we live in happened for a cause. What? Beats the hell out of me, for all we know could just be coincidence or some other reason. Perhaps for us to mature, and learn, or even for our own enjoyment. We won't know till we die know will we?

this post, again.
this is a popular thread topic because it starts debates easily and some people like to debate. not to mention its a big question so it makes sense why there would be so many threads of it

heh, just did. Take that Alnilam
We can never truly know until it's over, and even then there's the possibility of nothingness, in which case we still wouldn't know.
Our subjective perspective confounds our logic. We see so little when compared to the whole, yet, we must know, because if we don't, how can we live our lives?
Some have speculated that there's no such thing as truth, no real. I don't believe that. All that's certain is that we don't know.
I think of it the same way I try to think about when I actually go to sleep, and wake up, seemingly in an instant. I try to imagine it, and then :psyboom: for about 5 minutes.
I think that op should smoke more weed instead of making threads that look like they'll inspire intelligent discussion but just end up in a bunch of disillusioned people talking about how much they don't care.
:(
Oh hey guys, is anyone an astronomer.. or a space... philosopher or something?
Anyone have any job that directly links to space?
Do you have to be good in math to get into that field?
[del]Also, can someone link me that video where you zoom out into space and then zoom into an atom. The powers of ten video that they show in school.[/del]

I don't do drugs.
It's big. Really big. It's hard for me to imagine just how big it really is.
I'll take a few seconds to smack some sense in to you.
Just think about space, we don't know squat compared to the 'truth'..
'Truth' isn't defined in your statement, so you can't compare what we do know to what isn't defined.
But for some reason I've always thought to myself, maybe our universe is just an atom of an element, of another material and those atoms compose another world which is in a universe which is just an atom of an element.. etc. Which means everything you see around you is made of universes.
There's no evidence for this, so it's best not to believe it.
And well, life, What's the point? Maybe there is no big picture at all. What if we're just in a dream that we wake up from when we die. (No, not matrix)
Ironically, you make your own meaning of life. My meaning to to somehow advance the human race and help people. Although, biologically, you could say that the meaning is to become the most dominant species and pass on your successful genes.
Why does anything exist at all?
If we didn't exist, we wouldn't be faced with the possibility of nothing existing, so we'll always see things existing. A pointless question.
But think about it, it most likely will never happen.
Given an infinite amount of time, there's a 100% chance that it will.
We live for a short time to even know anything about our universe and lives. Even until our sun blows up 5 billion years from now. Those 5 billion years are considered seconds in how old our universe is going to be?
Knowledge is passed down by generations, that's how we have present day people creating technology that's taken thousands of years to design. The time since the big bang is 13.75 or so billion years.
Oh, could someone explain to me how before the Big Bang.. Time did not even exist. I'm not talking clocks, I'm talking just.. time.
I'm not a scientist, so I can't answer this one.
If you like thinking about stuff like that then I highly recommend watching these videos and others by this guy.

I think we're in some kind of circular reality where at the end of the day everything loops.

But things are different everyday.

Yeeaahhh... ummm... unless your laser has something around 3 or 4 Watts it won't even get past the athmosphere. Sorry to burst your bubble.
in sovereign voice: Organic life is a mutation, an error, a mistake.
there you have it.
People want to play videogames, eat fast food and go to work, few care a fuck for this. I don't care a shit.

I really don't think it matters how many people care about this. If nobody cares then don't post and let this "uninteresting" topic fall into the depths of facepunch.
Also, I doubt your three-pronged summation of what all people of this planet want is true. In fact the life you described for people sounds like it would get pretty damn boring quick.
It's simply amazing to think that focusing on a small portion of what appears to be night sky actually shows through long exposure that it is in fact encompassing thousands beyond thousands of galaxies.
If light could travel from one point to the next instantaneously, the night sky would actually be brighter than daylight, the darkness of space would not exist.
It's pretty cool I guess
As the Hitchhikers' Guide To The Galaxy intelligently puts it: The creation of the universe is widely regarded as a 'bad move'.

I think it was looking at the night sky in infrared or microwave? it looks totally amazing, the fact that almost all light from deep space gets stretched or something like that.
should look like this

I don't care about anything other than social experiences
I want to be able to experience life to the full with as many different kinds of people as I can, and in as many different situations as I can.
Nothing is better than hanging out with your friends and having a great time, nothing
I think it exists.
Personally, anything someone does does not matter, although someone can do something funny, gross, or terrifying, lots of evidence shows that this universe is just one of infinite amounts of parraell or diffferent universes. So whatever someone does, supposedly an entire universe is created out of that thought, but that is going to take decades of research to prove. Live your life the way you want to, but try not to make it bad for your own species.
I was just thinking, existence itself is baffling. No matter how much you think about it, there's no way you can really comprehend it. The chain of Whys never ends.
