I like how everyone says that if your a teenager you automatically hop om every bandwagon available.
I became an atheist when I was 11, through books about evolution, not an internet forum I didn't even know about.
I'm going to stare at your avatar until I feel happy again.
That's the reason why i wanted a cute cat as a avatar :).
aside from complainers like you this thread has been relatively civil...
As far as other religion threads go, yeah.
btw there's no such thing as theist (what you generalize as "religious") theory
theories are grounded in reality
well, the concept of a "God" being involved in the universe can be treated by the scientific community as a kind of "God hypothesis"
although it isn't and probably never will be upgraded to theory status
You know, I actually don't see that much flaming in religious arguments on this forum. Some can be messy, but rarely do people just go YOU'RE A GODDAMN MORON GO FUCK YOURSELF, at least without very good reason. Of course, some people *coughdoriolcough* are a little "un-civil", but overall it's not too bad.
Now political threads in ITN, hoo boy...
EDIT: And the people that do hardcore flame usually get modded for it, too
This thread proves why the OP should be able to remove his thread.
because now the flame war has begun.
I say we forget this ever happened, and go on with our miserable lives a stupid, fat, internet nerds.
Why are we even bickering like old ladies about this shit, when truly nobody knows the answer and nobody can dissaprove of any of our beliefs or lack of beliefs.
This thread is representing whats wrong with the world, people bickering about others being stupid, lesser, having different beliefs/thoughts.
This is why wars are started, why there is hate on Earth, all I wanted to FUCKING know was why it appears athiest gather on the internet, and it somehow became a internet fight about each religeons theories and why they are correct and/or incorrect.
Just listen to ourselves, we sound like the horrible hate driven people of the earth, like Hitler, Stalin and Cobra Commander.
Lets just stop, just stop bickering. Stop posting, and pretend not to give a shit.

Ragy still posts there. But at least he doesn't make threads.
Yea, ragy's about the same as glaber so far as stupidity/awful arguing and posting goes. The only other one is really MingusMinor, and Ridge sometimes. Most of the posters are pretty reasonable besides.

he didnt say... he just left. pretty nice tbh.
on topic, the hardest thing about a religious argument isn't disproving the theistic/religious side, its getting them to acknowledge/accept it.

I hope you mean Zeus, god of the sky.
Poseidon might give you rain in the form of a tidal wave.

Now I can rant about politics, because thats a field I'm noledgable in. (I spelled it wrong, but I won't correct it.)
Your right, I shouldn't be posting things I don't entirely know about.
But for the love of god (Or, um.... nothing) can we stop bickering. I know your going to spam this post with "Your the one who's bickering" or "Your the one who's whining" but seriously, this argument is out of hand. We need to respect each other. I'm civilized (Thoguh I'm a bad typist and I like to pretend I know everything, obviously) But it feels like I'm not being given a chance here, like you'll completely wreck any of my post even if they aren't shit. And it could be worse, I could've just said "FUCK YOU FAG LOLZ" and that shit, but I didn't. I just tried to have an intelligent argument but fell flat on my ass because I had no clue what I was talking about, that doesn't mean I'm stupid or un-civilized, it just means I made a mistake and talked about a subject matter I had no clue in.
As far as other religion threads go, yeah.
lol yeah, hence "relatively"

People don't want you telling them what to believe just in the same way you don't want it. They have this same discussion with each other. All we should teach is the importance of secularism in government, because let's face it thats the only real problem.

And another thing, why should I not participate in my own thread. I didn't create this so I could sit and watch people, civil or not, sit and jabber about religeon.
I asked a simple question, why do so many athiestS (Happy now) gather here or anywhere else on he internet.
So, could someone just answer that question.
And Kybalt, that was the point I was making, I SHOULDN'T, You are right.
That has been my biggest flaw since birth, and I just don't notice it until it's said and done.

Arguing's fun, though, why should we stop? And you have equal opportunity to "completely wreck" the post that goes against yours as well, and there's no reason you shouldn't if you can. And thank you for admitting you were mistaken for arguing those things, I respect someone more if they admit being wrong instead of just ignoring it.
Also, really do try and spruce up your typing, it helps quite a bit.
EDIT: Oh, and what kybalt said. If you're not knowledgeable about something, avoid posting about it, or at least go glance at wiki first.

theres a difference between not wanting to be told what to believe, and flat-out ignoring any contradictions to your beliefs. yeah, secular government woo.

Probably because of the general age group of people who congregate on the internet. Youth are probably more likely to not believe in a god than older people.
yeah also what xen said about respecting someone who has the balls to admit they were wrong during an argument.

While it may not be the only problem, it's the biggest problem so far as I can see. I've always made the point that I have no problem with personal beliefs, it's when those beliefs get imposed on the public realm that shit goes bad. Though teaching this is hard when you have people thinking the USA is a devoutly christian country :sigh:

thats probably due to the society they grew up in, and their access to information.

Not to many people do that, props to those who can.

:sigh: doesnt even come close to the mental pain i feel any time i hear someone who actually believes that. even if it were true, that wouldnt make a fucking difference.
bananafoam you seem like an alright guy
what kind of discussion were you expecting this thread to have?
Hey, on the topic of atheism, has anyone else been reading/read the undercover blogger reports of the "AFTAH Gay-Rights-Academy" convention?
The AFTAH Anti-Gay-Rights Academy: From the Perspective of Two Who Attended, Day 3 of 3
Here's the 3rd day, links to days 1 and 2 are in the post. It's really fascinating, somewhat frightening, and really, really sickening, but worth the read.
Also Friendly Atheist is an amazing blog, just for a side point.
What do you guys think Of Richard Dawkins? Just a general question.
What do you guys think Of Richard Dawkins? Just a general question.
Pretty good guy, The God Delusion was the first or second major thing I read on atheism, which was nice. The only real crappy thing he's done in recent times was giving Bill Maher the Richard Dawkins' Foundation prize or something like that. So far as "atheist activists" or "atheist representatives" go, I like PZ Myers a lot more, though.
Richard Dawkins is smart but he's really pompous.
