There is no way we are ready for 2010.
There is no way I am ready for 2010.
Stop time for me? 2010 is taking it to far, Looks like a good time to stop living :D
how are we gonna call this decade anyways the 00's
You say "O hundreds."
It's become cool to say "noughties" all of a sudden.
Well, I must say your right alot has happened in the last 10 years but i must also say this lam economy has driven most our lives to crap.
The 2000s.
This decade was shit.
So fucking wat? Get over it and try not to fuck up the next one.
I'll still write "/09" at the end of all my dates though.
This Decade: 2000-2009
Next Decade 2010-2019
Well, we've had terrorist attacks, new and more wars (SURPRISE, SURPRISE!), we're all paranoid that the world is gonna end any day now (and given how ridiculously hate-filled and violent we are, that's probably actually likely sooner or later (see the point on 'wars' for more info).
Oh, and we've had a few natural disasters. Indonesia got butt-fucked by the world on boxing day of 2004, and New Orleans got raped in the face by a hurricane (granted if people weren't so fucking stupid in the first place (I'll address that in a second) there wouldn't have been a problem in the first place! They were told to leave, and they didn't. Great job, morons).
Everyone seems to be getting increasingly more stupid, and, sadly, nowadays it's seen as a good thing. The social norm. If you're not an unintelligent, uninformed idiot, you're some freak that's shunned by society.
The economy went down the shitter, and it all got clogged up. Then someone lowered a fan into the clogged up shit infested water, and... well, use your fucking imagination.
Perhaps I am a tad (read: incredibly) cynical, and sure, some good stuff is happened, but there's just so much fucking bad stuff too, and it's god damn annoying. Why can't we all just get along peacefully and not fight and argue? Why do we continue to wage wars over the silliest fucking things when we're supposed to be 'civilised'? I hope we as a species collectively grow-up sometime during the rest of the century (preferably as soon as possible)... I don't see it happening though, unfortunately.
I strongly disagree with your cynicism. Humanity is the same as it's always been, we've been waging wars against each other for as long as civilizations have existed. Hell, I'd argue that Humanity has improved. Compare society today to society in the 1300's. It's much, much better in modern times. We're more open, more intelligent and the laws are fairer.

My point wasn't the amount of fighting that we do, but that we STILL fight. We should all just grow up, get over our differences, forget about the imaginary lines in the ground, accept the fact that we're all from different areas with different ways of thinking and different cultures and just get on with life. Half of the wars that are fought nowadays don't make any sense anyway.
ITT: 12 year old fags trying to convince each other if we should celebrate decades at -11 or -10.
9/11 kinda woke me up that the world wasn't all sunshine and flowers. I was like 4 or 5 I think.
Michael Jackson's death, I just felt in disbelief when I heard it.
HOLY SHIT, ME TOO!
Also, HL2 Leak.
Pretty shit decade as far as humans on the whole are concerned tbh, worst since the 70's, hopefully things will improve
Personally, of the two decades of my life, I can't remember enough of the first one to compare them.
Fuck you, star trek was in the 70's and so was KC and the Sunshine band!
Technology has increased quite a bit, but that's really the only thing that has impacted me over the last few years.
This decade should be known for being "the computers decade" or something like that. We've never seen more development on the internet. More and more becomes available online.
Some places use Emails instead of mailing.
We use computers instead of paper (at least we're starting to do so, especially at schools with notes)
Not to mention banking and shopping online.
Quite a lot has happened to the people over the last decade, we've learned to use technology wisely. Some of us, that is.
This decade's a piece of shit is what it is.
the argument is that some idiot 2000 years ago didn't start with the year 0, but the year 1. Therefore, the first decade ran from:
Year 1
Year 2
Year 3
Year 4
Year 5
Year 6
Year 7
Year 8
Year 9
Year 10
Thus, the start of the next decade was the start of the Year 11.
Carry that forwards and the start of 2001 was the first year of this decade, follow through and the end of 2010 is technically the end of "this" decade. However, anyone who actually celebrates that is a retard, because now we are in 4 figures, it makes much more logical sense to celebrate it with the *9 being the last year of a decade and the *0 being the first year of the next.
It would be easier to just have the first decade be only 9 years.
ITT: 12 year old fags trying to convince each other if we should celebrate decades at -11 or -10.
How exactly does trying to explain how dates work make me gay?
Your logic confuses me.
This is something people should know.
Here's another example:
The millenium bug, or the Y2K bug. If a decade runs from 1-10 then they couldn't call it the millenium bug, cause the millenium wouldn't switch until 2001.
Well boys and girls, its that time again. The time when we have to say goodbye to those 10 years that have impacted our lives so much. Most of us have lived through 9/11, the death of Michael Jackson/Billy Mays and the first black president getting voted into office. Everyone here can probably something has happened to them through this time, changing something in their life. So Facepunch, what are your thought's on this?
You make it sound as if everything revolves around america.
My first full decade. (born in 91)

Then it would have to be called a nona-ade (if basing it on latin) or a ennea-ade (if basing it on greek) or something like that...

I think I want to forget most of this decade's music... Most of the only decent music came from bands that formed pre-2000.
you guys are missing anything prior to 2008 it seems
-snip-
I'm glad this decade is almost over, it's been rough for me. Everything from failed relationships and being abandoned to a friend trying to kill himself and pinning it on me, it's just been terrible.

I'll just go by this from now on.
Year 1 = 2000
Year 2 = 2001
Year 3 = 2002
Year 4 = 2003
Year 5 = 2004
Year 6 = 2005
Year 7 = 2006
Year 8 = 2007
Year 9 = 2008
Year 10 = 2009
Should be interesting to see what the next 10 years bring.
