Is video game testing dying? I didn't think about it until a co-worker brought it up mentioning how the new norm for game developers is to release their unfinished games as "early access" and charge you for it. You as the consumer are essentially testing their game for them that you paid for. That is, if you're one of the people who actually discuss the game in-progress with them on the community forum reporting issues and such. There has been a decrease in free downloadable demos too which strengthens this opinion. Plus, either this theory is correct or there are just more scams out. I can never find a 100% legit game tester job online. The ones that seem actually believable require a degree, but most seem too good to be true. Opinions?
[editline]24th February 2014[/editline] I think that the companies should go into their ratings for their games, and fix what consumers are complaining about/ wanting in the game. A lot of theses games are major shit.👍
One guy started getting nightmares during QA testing Dead Space. Created a thread on the forum.
I think your mileage as a QA tester depends a lot on what company you work at. Obviously some companies will treat them like shit but others I can't imagine being anything but nice to them (Valve for instance)
I would have loved being a tester for capcom in the 90's. Best days of gaming and it was the best developer and still is in my opinion.

Their job is to suck at playing the game so that Valve makes it more obvious where you're supposed to go. I don't think they get paid.

I'd be surprised if they had a dedicated QA team though, because people are typically breaking down the doors to come play their games. The work might just be given to interns or something, though.
It might be dying for indie games whose budget is $50 and a couple of cans of red bull but it's certainly still alive in the AAA world.
That became very clear on Battlefield 4. :v:
